==Summary==
In which the runners act as disposable muscle for the Ancients and evict some Cutters squatters from their turf.

==Background==
As part of their ongoing fued with the Ancients (given new life recently by the killing of [[Insonia]] by [[Lichtenberg]] (see: [[Duerme y Pasa a Mejor Vida]]) and subsequent retaliation (see: [[Captain Cook's Magic Book]]), the Cutters have sent a small detachment of goons to take over an old stonemason's hall in Tillamook, a small town which serves as a stopover for several Ancients smuggling routes. Their presence is an inconvenience, one that would be costly in terms of time and manpower (which is needed elsewhere) to remove, so [[Ether]] (who is in charge of the smuggling routes) decides to send a pair of weird nocturna to handle things for them.

==The Meet==
The runners are contacted by their fixers and told to meet at the Rose of Sharon bar in Tarislar at 8pm - both are able to get to the meeting location without issue on their respective motorcycles, encountering each other in the parking lot and introducing themselves before heading inside. Ether flags them down and invites them to a booth, offering drinks before explaining what she needs from them (see above) - she tells them to remove the Cutters presence by any means necessary, and that she will have them smuggled across the boarder in the guise of Ancients in order to do so. She offers 6 grand each for the job, in addition to double that amount in bike mods; the two accept the offer and arrange to meet up at the Daisy Chain the following night with a group of smugglers in order to hop the boarder.

==The Plan==
After spending the rest of the night getting to know one-another (being that it's rather rare to meet other nocturnal elves) and taking pot-shots at beer cans (Oberon learns some things about shooting, while Panda learns some things about being an adept), the nocturna rest up and reconvene at the appointed time, donning their new green jackets and heading south with a crew of biker elves. The gang's robust smuggling network makes getting through the SSC and across the notoriously-well-guarded Tir boarder much simpler, with the group mostly following the remote back roads (though there is a brief scuffle with a trucker on the highway en-route that ends as quickly as it began). With the Ancients having connections with Tir boarder security and the nocturna somehow managing to blend in (mostly by covering up their distinctive features and staying quiet while the squad leader does the talking), getting into the counter is a simple enough matter. Parting ways from the bikers, the two head off towards Tillamook while the gangers proceed to the next leg of the smuggling route.

Left to their own devices, the nocturna decide to scout out their target before striking in the dead of night. Oberon uses physical mask spells to make them look like a pair of Normal Human Men, and the two proceed to take a nighttime stroll through the neighborhood where the building that's been taken over by the Cutters is located. Staying out of sight for the most part, they are able to thoroughly case the place and identify a number of guards on the building's balconies, noting their positions with thermal cameras. Finding that there aren't any on the roof, they plan to sneak up to the building in chameleon suits and scale it with gecko gloves, then Solid Snake their way through the place by first taking out the guard on the balcony and making their way silently through the building from there.

==The Run==
When the appointed hour arrives, Oberon and Panda engage stealth mode, donning their full body sneak suits to hide their fur and not leave any trace evidence behind. With their collective sneaking skills they're able to make the approach unseen and unheard by the sentries, climbing to the roof and utilizing motion sense to identify the number and location of the half-dozen gangers on the second floor. Planning to begin with the Cutter on the balcony having a 3am hit of betameth and work their way inside, Oberon casts his most subtle sound barrier spell around Panda to muffle the sound of the latter's Very Loud Gun - however the Cutters are unusually perceptive, detecting the casting with numenous perception. Hearing one of them tell another to contact their mage for spirit backup in order to identify the magical shenanigans at work, Oberon switches on his jammer to stop the signal and gives Panda the cue to strike.

Attacking from surprise, Oberon uses nerve strike to paralyze the ganger on the balcony while Panda slips inside and shoots the one with his commlink out, drawing attention from those in the next room. With stealth out the window, the two decide to play defensively - while Panda attracts attention with shots and obstructs a hallway leading to more of the Cutters on the second floor (wounding and striking down more of the combatants in the process while nimbly avoiding retaliatory strikes), Oberon sneaks through the commotion to get the drop on those heading up the stairs to reinforce them, managing to strike at a troll ganger's nerves and cause him to fall down the stairs on top of one of his fellows.

Seeing their numbers advantage starting to evaporate, one of the Cutters gets a bit desperate and uses a grenade to clear the room (as their comrades inside it are dead); this forces Panda to flee from it and seek shelter in the stairwell, which gives themselves a bit of breathing room. Oberon meanwhile run for his life from the explosion out to the balcony and uses his enhanced speed/agility to make the leap to the adjacent one - as the Cutters emerge into the now-blown-up room to look for what they believe to be a lone assailant, the banshee sneaks up behind them and pulls the pin on another of their grenades before fleeing. The gangers, lacking supernatural reaction speeds, are subsequently cooked when the second explosion chunky salsa's them.

With the majority of the opposition taken out, Panda cleans up the remainder on the bottom floor while Oberon hunts down the group's decker, finding them in one of the boarded-up rooms on the second floor. After dumpshocking the poor nerd, he decides to get a bit of revenge for the Ancients fallen Matrix specialist, telling Panda to go and bring their bikes around while he proceeds to essence drain the Cutter. After, he grabs the cyberdeck (bringing both it and the paydata back to their employers), double-taps the nerd and the paralyzed folks then spray paints a green A on the wall before making his escape.

==Aftermath==
With the explosions from the Cutters' grenades having attracted several calls to the local police, the nocturna decide against heading to either an Ancients safehouse or the local motels, given that's likely where law enforcement will look for the perpetrators first - instead, they speed away on their bikes and make their way into the wilderness. Oberon, having spent time in the area before coming to Seattle, is able to navigate safely through the pine barrens to the next town over, where they're able to secure lodgings and contact Ether. The Ancients arrange another smuggling run to bring them back to Seattle and deliver their promised payment for a job well done.

More work for the Ancients, more bike mods for the Mirage; guess making connections with them was a good call. Overall one of my smoother gigs, despite things going unexpectedly loud. Meeting another nocturna was cool too, even if they were a neko catboy - Panda seems like an alright guy, if a little naive about some things.It was a bit strange not being the most noteworthy one on the team for once, but I picked up a few new pistol tricks along with some useful intel about the gang's smuggling routes, plus got myself a snack and some pay-back for what happened to [[Insonia]], so I can't complain.

Grenades are spooky. Felt my heart race when they chucked one. Felt my stomach be less than settled in the aftermath, but it was a good work. Shot straight, shot well. Met someone else like me too, Nocturna. Smart man, knew what he was talking about. Or at least, knew a lot more than me. That silencing trick he did, that was handy. Wish I used it better, but there's always the next time. Hope there's a next time, he was good to work with.

Like someone learning to skate for the first time, Panda is struggling not to slip while he adjusts to life on his own in Seattle.

==Background==
Originally born to a couple that joined a commune on the outskirts of Metropole in Amazonia, they eventually perished from something within the jungle and left a young Preto an orphan to be raised by the group. Before he was even old enough to speak, he experienced a SURGE. The leader of the commune, an Awakened fellow in the Aztec tradition, accused the young boy of murdering his spirit twin. The white marks on his body were its blood, and his feline features stolen from its corpse. Raised largely as a pariah from his earliest memories, he was kept off the books but was eventually unloaded onto a gang who saw potential in the novelty, leaving the commune with a tidy profit.

It took awhile for the gang to earn a return on Preto. There was something uncanny about him, setting off animals fight-or-flight and making people look at him askance and, to the gang's surprise, it turned out his allergy to the slop they were serving wasn't bullshit. He wasn't great as a drug mule despite his quickness, with cops picking on him even when he was clean, and his metagenic weakness meant he struggled to hold the AK of a soldier. Frustration had him sent off to be a dancer when he was old enough. While he could put on a show with a pole, his unnerving nature made it hard to find success. But one man's unnerving is another man's titillating and the prodigal son to the head of a minor Renraku branch found him irresistible. Once again he was offloaded, leaving his previous owners with a healthy sum and him in the entourage of someone heading back to Japan.

Life was on the up-and-up for Preto. Sure, he had to wear a collar with a little bell and whatever else the young master wanted, but he had comfort and luxury. He loved the attention and became even more prideful when he came into a late Awakening during a Shinto festival, his senses coming alive when he swore he felt the passing of spirits through him; blossoming into an Adept meant he get to sleep on the same floor as his master and soon he earned the privilege of sharing the same bed. It felt like things could only get better from there until he learned that being called 'their pet' was more than a term of endearment.

The young master had plans for their cat, to shape him into becoming something that doubled as armcandy and bodyguard. So just after his reflexes were deemed sufficiently honed, Preto woke up on strapped to an operating table. A surgeon and his owner were talking about how to make the necessary touch-ups to have Preto fit the ideal measurements. When it became clear he was panicking instead of understanding about what was going to happen to his body, he was knocked out.

When he woke up, Preto felt something missing inside of him. Something taken that he could never get back. His convalescence was extended not just from his body's natural weakness but his refusal to eat. Surgically altered to be more agile, he withered to the point of emaciation.

Two people found this unacceptable. Preto for one, and the young master's father for another. The patriarch found what his son was doing was worse than reprehensible: it was shameful. It brought dishonor that they were playing so much with something that was beneath even the average metahuman, an animal. If the young master was to eventually succeed him, they had to grow up and leave this "toy" behind.

A situation was setup where Preto was to travel to Seattle, ostensibly for an extended stay in a recovery clinic. However, a very conspicuous hole in the usually tight security presented itself, a clean break from the Tacoma Internation tarmac to the wider city beyond. Pilfering a credstick from the young master, he decided to make a run for it. Of course, the obvious pathway to freedom was orchestrated by the patriarch with a team posing as security waiting to liquidate him just at the threshold. Preto was fast enough and lucky enough to
blaze past them into freedom.

Freedom was expensive, it turned out. Beyond the difficult landing adjusting to life on his own, work was scarce. He was a shifty-looking runt, and people were more willing to let a junkie guarding a stash than take a chance on him. With the funds on the credstick dwindling, he turned to bounty-hunting; bringing back the meanest-looking trogs bound on the back of their own bikes brought Preto a bregruding tolerance and along with enough nuyen to slow the hemorrhage of his funds.

It hasn't been enough to put him in the green, though. He's only been able to go after the lowest hanging fruit, those too stupid to cover up their tracks, live-streaming their crimes and haunts. Still, he's hoping it's the start of a record that would lead to more lucrative work.

==Appearance==
At a glance, Panda seems like a Giacometti sculpture that's walked out of an exhibit with his eerily thin frame and peculiar complexion; most of the fur covering his body is the same colour as wrought iron, with the exception of some splotches of chalky white. There's one splotch over his right eye the size of a grapefruit, and another on his left elbow of the same size. There's some splatter as if flicked from a paintbrush running up the back of his right leg, and a blob hugging the side of his chest in between his pectoral and hip. In addition to the white fur, all of his exposed skin is the same chalky white such as his eyelids, his lips and his palms.

His ears look pilfered off a panther, furred and slightly rounded, and a long tail running off his spine. His pupils have the vertical slit of a feline and his eyelids have a slight inwards angle to them, giving him a natural scowl.

His unhealthy thinness and shiftiness makes him seem like a go-ganger aching for his next fix, and his aloofness and choice of gear does little to suggest otherwise. A huge revolver is strapped to his hip and he seems more likely to injure himself by breaking his wrist than hitting is target, and his armoured coat seems at least a size too large for him.

When spotted out in the streets, Panda is typically wearing a graphic tee, his one allowance for fashion while purse strings are tight.

His usual coat, a size large enough that the cuffs extend past his wrists, is left undone when the dreary weather permits. Black and shiny, it matches his tall boots.

Covering his legs is a pair of jeans, with the knees reinforced with an extra patch of synthetic denim. They fit his leg closely, accentuating their length. He rotates between a few pairs of these.

Before he was even old enough to speak, he experienced a SURGE. The leader of the commune, an Awakened fellow in the Aztec tradition, accused the young boy of murdering his spirit twin. The white marks on his body were its blood, and his feline features stolen from its corpse. Raised largely as a pariah from his earliest memories, he was kept off the books but was eventually unloaded onto a gang who saw potential in the novelty, leaving the commune with a tidy profit.

It took awhile for the gang to earn a return on Preto. There was something uncanny about him, setting off animals fight-or-flight and making people look at him askance and, to the gang's surprise, it turned out his allergy to the slop they were serving wasn't bullshit. He wasn't great as a drug mule despite his quickness, with cops picking on him even when he was clean, and his metagenic weakness meant he struggled to hold the AK of a soldier. Frustration had him sent off to be a dancer when he was old enough. While he could put on a show with a pole, his unnerving nature made it hard to find success. But one man's unnerving is another man's titillating and the prodigal son to the head of a minor Renraku branch found him irresistible. Once again he was offloaded, leaving his previous owners with a healthy sum and him in the entourage of someone heading back to Japan.

Life was on the up-and-up for Preto. Sure, he had to wear a collar with a little bell and whatever else the young master wanted, but he had comfort and luxury. He loved the attention and became even more prideful when he came into a late Awakening during a Shinto festival, his senses coming alive when he swore he felt the passing of spirits through him; blossoming into an Adept meant he get to sleep on the same floor as his master and soon he earned the privilege of sharing the same bed. It felt like things could only get better from there until he learned that being called 'their pet' was more than a term of endearment.

The young master had plans for their cat, to shape him into becoming something that doubled as armcandy and bodyguard. So just after his reflexes were deemed sufficiently honed, Preto woke up on strapped to an operating table. A surgeon and his owner were talking about how to make the necessary touch-ups to have Preto fit the ideal measurements. When it became clear he was panicking instead of understanding about what was going to happen to his body, he was knocked out.

When he woke up, Preto felt something missing inside of him. Something taken that he could never get back. His convalescence was extended not just from his body's natural weakness but his refusal to eat. Surgically altered to be more agile, he withered to the point of emaciation.

Two people found this unacceptable. Preto for one, and the young master's father for another. The patriarch found what his son was doing was worse than reprehensible: it was shameful. It brought dishonor that they were playing so much with something that was beneath even the average metahuman, an animal. If the young master was to eventually succeed him, they had to grow up and leave this "toy" behind.

A situation was setup where Preto was to travel to Seattle, ostensibly for an extended stay in a recovery clinic. However, a very conspicuous hole in the usually tight security presented itself, a clean break from the Tacoma Internation tarmac to the wider city beyond. Pilfering a credstick from the young master, he decided to make a run for it. Of course, the obvious pathway to freedom was orchestrated by the patriarch with a team posing as security waiting to liquidate him just at the threshold. Preto was fast enough and lucky enough to
blaze past them into freedom.

Freedom was expensive, it turned out. Beyond the difficult landing adjusting to life on his own, work was scarce. He was a shifty-looking runt, and people were more willing to let a junkie guarding a stash than take a chance on him. With the funds on the credstick dwindling, he turned to bounty-hunting; bringing back the meanest-looking trogs bound on the back of their own bikes brought Preto a bregruding tolerance and along with enough nuyen to slow the hemorrhage of his funds.

It hasn't been enough to put him in the green, though. He's only been able to go after the lowest hanging fruit, those too stupid to cover up their tracks, live-streaming their crimes and haunts. Still, he's hoping it's the start of a record that would lead to more lucrative work.

Before he was even old enough to speak, he experienced a SURGE. The leader of the commune, an Awakened fellow in the Aztec tradition, accused the young boy of murdering his spirit twin. The white marks on his body were its blood, and his feline features stolen from its corpse. Raised largely as a pariah from his earliest memories, he was kept off the books but was eventually unloaded onto a gang who saw potential in the novelty, leaving the commune with a tidy profit.

It took awhile for the gang to earn a return on Preto. There was something uncanny about him, setting off animals fight-or-flight and making people look at him askance and, to the gang's surprise, it turned out his allergy to the slop they were serving wasn't bullshit. He wasn't great as a drug mule despite his quickness, with cops picking on him even when he was clean, and his metagenic weakness meant he struggled to hold the AK of a soldier. Frustration had him sent off to be a dancer when he was old enough. While he could put on a show with a pole, his unnerving nature made it hard to find success. But one man's unnerving is another man's titillating and the prodigal son to the head of a minor Renraku branch found him irresistible. Once again he was offloaded, leaving his previous owners with a healthy sum and him in the entourage of someone heading back to Japan.

Life was on the up-and-up for Preto. Sure, he had to wear a collar with a little bell and whatever else the young master wanted, but he had comfort and luxury. He loved the attention and became even more prideful when he came into a late Awakening during a Shinto festival, his senses coming alive when he swore he felt the passing of spirits through him; blossoming into an Adept meant he get to sleep on the same floor as his master and soon he earned the privilege of sharing the same bed. It felt like things could only get better from there until he learned that being called 'their pet' was more than a term of endearment.

The young master had plans for their cat, to shape him into becoming something that doubled as armcandy and bodyguard. So just after his reflexes were deemed sufficiently honed, Preto woke up on strapped to an operating table. A surgeon and his owner were talking about how to make the necessary touch-ups to have Preto fit the ideal measurements. When it became clear he was panicking instead of understanding about what was going to happen to his body, he was knocked out.

When he woke up, Preto felt something missing inside of him. Something taken that he could never get back. His convalescence was extended not just from his body's natural weakness but his refusal to eat. Surgically altered to be more agile, he withered to the point of emaciation.

Two people found this unacceptable. Preto for one, and the young master's father for another. The patriarch found what his son was doing was worse than reprehensible: it was shameful. It brought dishonor that they were playing so much with something that was beneath even the average metahuman, an animal. If the young master was to eventually succeed him, they had to grow up and leave this "toy" behind.

A situation was setup where Preto was to travel to Seattle, ostensibly for an extended stay in a recovery clinic. However, a very conspicuous hole in the usually tight security presented itself, a clean break from the Tacoma Internation tarmac to the wider city beyond. Pilfering a credstick from the young master, he decided to make a run for it. Of course, the obvious pathway to freedom was orchestrated by the patriarch with a team posing as security waiting to liquidate him just at the threshold. Preto was fast enough and lucky enough to
blaze past them into freedom.

Freedom was expensive, it turned out. Beyond the difficult landing adjusting to life on his own, work was scarce. He was a shifty-looking runt, and people were more willing to let a junkie guarding a stash than take a chance on him. With the funds on the credstick dwindling, he turned to bounty-hunting; bringing back the meanest-looking trogs bound on the back of their own bikes brought Preto a bregruding tolerance and along with enough nuyen to slow the hemorrhage of his funds.

It hasn't been enough to put him in the green, though. He's only been able to go after the lowest hanging fruit, those too stupid to cover up their tracks, live-streaming their crimes and haunts. Still, he's hoping it's the start of a record that would lead to more lucrative work.

==Summary==
An ork from the Ork Underground is targeted by Laesa, and runners are called in to find out why and what happened. They muck up the Laesa plans, and figure some things out for Greg, looking for answers.

==Background==
Greg works with, not for, the [[Skraacha]] in the Ork Underground. When he heard of someone from his community being potentially targeted, he was keen on investigating. However, when he though the Laesa might be involved, he decided to higher some runners to investigate to keep themselves under wraps.

==The Meet==
The team meet with [[Greg]] at a roadside diner, talking about who and what happened. Finding out an Ork was targeted, he had decided to get some runners in to help out with being sneaky. The team got info that the ork had lost a bag with his important items, including Foci and a picture of his family. The team decided not to negotiate for money and set out to figure what happened.

==The Plan==
The team decided it they'd find a place to work from, a nearby library, and then do scouting and planning their actions. Bhop decided to do matrix work, while Panda and Sojourner would scout the bar. Cinder stayed with Bhop and would run to either one, depending on any active problems.

==The Run==
At the bar, the team found out that the Laesa were running the gig and were using laes to rob customers. With a bit of legwork inside, they found proof of this. So, Bhop entered into the host to find details of what happened to Greg's client. After digging and dodging the spider on the net, Bhop was able to find video evidence of what happened.

The client was indeed Laes'd and had been robbed, with their gear being handed off to someone in the bar who took it elsewhere to be processed. A quick phone call from Sojourner to Quanxi revealed much about this persons history. They work for a high end corpo who collects magical gear, reselling it to other corpo and elite of Seattle. She also knew that the Laesa had an operation nearby that would surely hold these items until they were picked up to be sent to the corpo.

Heading over to that location and with scouting the team was able to find the place ridden with Laesa, including some more heavily armed guards. Inside was also the items they sought after, being picked up by a corpo.

Deciding to act fast, the team prepaired a frontal assault as a ploy to get the guards to not worry about the back, allowing Panda to head inside and nab the bag. That is exactly what they did, with Panda opening their first shot which nailed the corpo runner. They went down crying and begging for help, meanwhile Sojourner and Cinders started their assault after Bhop had shut down lights in the grid, keeping the guards confused and blinded.

The team made quick work of the fight, pushing the guards to their limit and further, killing off most of the guards. The team bugged out and were able to return the gear to Greg.

==Aftermath==
Greg was glad to see the runners unharmed and the gear returned. And as such, he thanked and payed them for their services. Returning the gear to the Ork it belonged to, they were excited and happy to have the thing from their bag they cherished the most; a picture of their wife and kids.

However not all was well, as the runners left some threads untied, causing folks inside both Telestrian and the Laesa to have bad rep for them. Will it come back to haunt them in the future?

Originally born to a couple that joined a commune on the outskirts of Metropole in Amazonia, they eventually perished from something within the jungle and left a young Preto an orphan to be raised by the group. Before he was even old enough to speak, he experienced a SURGE. The leader of the commune, an Awakened fellow in the Aztec tradition, accused the young boy of murdering his spirit twin. The white marks on his body were its blood, and his feline features stolen from its corpse. Raised largely as a pariah from his earliest memories, he was kept off the books but was eventually unloaded onto a gang who saw potential in the novelty, leaving the commune with a tidy profit.

It took awhile for the gang to earn a return on Preto. There was something uncanny about him, setting off animals fight-or-flight and making people look at him askance and, to the gang's surprise, it turned out his allergy to the slop they were serving wasn't bullshit. He wasn't great as a drug mule despite his quickness, with cops picking on him even when he was clean, and his metagenic weakness meant he struggled to hold the AK of a soldier. Frustration had him sent off to be a dancer when he was old enough. While he could put on a show with a pole, his unnerving nature made it hard to find success. But one man's unnerving is another man's titillating and the prodigal son to the head of a minor Renraku branch found him irresistible. Once again he was offloaded, leaving his previous owners with a healthy sum and him in the entourage of someone heading back to Japan.

Life was on the up-and-up for Preto. Sure, he had to wear a collar with a little bell and whatever else the young master wanted, but he had comfort and luxury. He loved the attention and became even more prideful when he came into a late Awakening during a Shinto festival, his senses coming alive when he swore he felt the passing of spirits through him; blossoming into an Adept meant he get to sleep on the same floor as his master and soon he earned the privilege of sharing the same bed. It felt like things could only get better from there until he learned that being called 'their pet' was more than a term of endearment.

The young master had plans for their cat, to shape him into becoming something that doubled as armcandy and bodyguard. So just after his reflexes were deemed sufficiently honed, Preto woke up on strapped to an operating table. A surgeon and his owner were talking about how to make the necessary touch-ups to have Preto fit the ideal measurements. When it became clear he was panicking instead of understanding about what was going to happen to his body, he was knocked out.

When he woke up, Preto felt something missing inside of him. Something taken that he could never get back. His convalescence was extended not just from his body's natural weakness but his refusal to eat. Surgically altered to be more agile, he withered to the point of emaciation.

At a glance, Panda seems like a Giacometti sculpture that's walked out of an exhibit with his eerily thin frame and peculiar complexion; most of the fur covering his body is the same colour as wrought iron, with the exception of some splotches of chalky white. There's one splotch over his right eye the size of a grapefruit, and another on his left elbow of the same size. There's some splatter as if flicked from a paintbrush running up the back of his right leg, and a blob hugging the side of his chest in between his pectoral and hip. In addition to the white fur, all of his exposed skin is the same chalky white such as his eyelids, his lips and his palms.

His ears look pilfered off a panther, furred and slightly rounded, and a long tail running off his spine. His pupils have the vertical slit of a feline and his eyelids have a slight inwards angle to them, giving him a natural scowl.

His unhealthy thinness and shiftiness makes him seem like a go-ganger aching for his next fix, and his aloofness and choice of gear does little to suggest otherwise. At a glance, Panda seems like a Giacometti sculpture that's walked out of an exhibit with his eerily thin frame and peculiar complexion; most of the fur covering his body is the same colour as wrought iron, with the exception of some splotches of chalky white. There's one splotch over his right eye the size of a grapefruit, and another on his left elbow of the same size. There's some splatter as if flicked from a paintbrush running up the back of his right leg, and a blob hugging the side of his chest in between his pectoral and hip. In addition to the white fur, all of his exposed skin is the same chalky white such as his eyelids, his lips and his palms.

His ears look pilfered off a panther, furred and slightly rounded, and a long tail running off his spine. His pupils have the vertical slit of a feline and his eyelids have a slight inwards angle to them, giving him a natural scowl.

His unhealthy thinness and shiftiness makes him seem like a go-ganger aching for his next fix, and his aloofness and choice of gear does little to suggest otherwise. A huge revolver is strapped to his hip and he seems more likely to injure himself by breaking his wrist than hitting is target, and his armoured coat seems at least a size too large for him.

A Nocturna Adept that's very adept with a pistol, Panda is a short, wiry elf whose only resemblance to the bear is his black & white colour pattern. Rather, he's significantly more catlike than usual for his subspecies.

Like someone learning to skate for the first time, Panda is struggling not to slip while he adjusts to life on his own in Seattle.

==Background==
Originally born to a couple that joined a commune on the outskirts of Metropole in Amazonia, they eventually perished from something within the jungle and left a young Preto an orphan to be raised by the group. Before he was even old enough to speak, he experienced a SURGE. The leader of the commune, an Awakened fellow in the Aztec tradition, accused the young boy of murdering his spirit twin. The white marks on his body were its blood, and his feline features stolen from its corpse. Raised largely as a pariah from his earliest memories, he was kept off the books but was eventually unloaded onto a gang who saw potential in the novelty, leaving the commune with a tidy profit.

It took awhile for the gang to earn a return on Preto. There was something uncanny about him, setting off animals fight-or-flight and making people look at him askance and, to the gang's surprise, it turned out his allergy to the slop they were serving wasn't bullshit. He wasn't great as a drug mule despite his quickness, with cops picking on him even when he was clean, and his metagenic weakness meant he struggled to hold the AK of a soldier. Frustration had him sent off to be a dancer when he was old enough. While he could put on a show with a pole, his unnerving nature made it hard to find success. But one man's unnerving is another man's titillating and the prodigal son to the head of a minor Renraku branch found him irresistible. Once again he was offloaded, leaving his previous owners with a healthy sum and him in the entourage of someone heading back to Japan.

Life was on the up-and-up for Preto. Sure, he had to wear a collar with a little bell and whatever else the young master wanted, but he had comfort and luxury. He loved the attention and became even more prideful when he came into a late Awakening during a Shinto festival, his senses coming alive when he swore he felt the passing of spirits through him; blossoming into an Adept meant he get to sleep on the same floor as his master and soon he earned the privilege of sharing the same bed. It felt like things could only get better from there until he learned that being called 'their pet' was more than a term of endearment.

The young master had plans for their cat, to shape him into becoming something that doubled as armcandy and bodyguard. So just after his reflexes were deemed sufficiently honed, Preto woke up on strapped to an operating table. A surgeon and his owner were talking about how to make the necessary touch-ups to have Preto fit the ideal measurements. When it became clear he was panicking instead of understanding about what was going to happen to his body, he was knocked out.

When he woke up, Preto felt something missing inside of him. Something taken that he could never get back. His convalescence was extended not just from his body's natural weakness but his refusal to eat. Surgically altered to be more agile, he withered to the point of emaciation.

Two people found this unacceptable. Preto for one, and the young master's father for another. The patriarch found what his son was doing was worse than reprehensible: it was shameful. It brought dishonor that they were playing so much with something that was beneath even the average metahuman, an animal. If the young master was to eventually succeed him, they had to grow up and leave this "toy" behind.

A situation was setup where Preto was to travel to Seattle, ostensibly for an extended stay in a recovery clinic. However, a very conspicuous hole in the usually tight security presented itself, a clean break from the Tacoma Internation tarmac to the wider city beyond. Pilfering a credstick from the young master, he decided to make a run for it. Of course, the obvious pathway to freedom was orchestrated by the patriarch with a team posing as security waiting to liquidate him just at the threshold. Preto was fast enough and lucky enough to
blaze past them into freedom.

Freedom was expensive, it turned out. Beyond the difficult landing adjusting to life on his own, work was scarce. He was a shifty-looking runt, and people were more willing to let a junkie guarding a stash than take a chance on him. With the funds on the credstick dwindling, he turned to bounty-hunting; bringing back the meanest-looking trogs bound on the back of their own bikes brought Preto a bregruding tolerance and along with enough nuyen to slow the hemorrhage of his funds.
