Coming from survivors of the Yomi island concentration camp, Shizuka's family was lucky enough to find employment with Renraku Computer Systems at a facility on the island before the decree was rescinded in 2062. Being born into the megacorporation's care - even as an Oni restricted to living in a secured compound on that hellhole for the earliest years of her life - meant she was able to avoid most of the malnutrition and disease that ravaged many of her peers from the island.

For most of her childhood, as soon as she had been taught to read and speak proper Japanese, she joined her classmates in the hero-worship of the idea of the Samurai: Strong, noble warrior-philosophers, defending their people (and corporation) against all foes, honorably serving their (corporate) lords even unto death. For some, this was mere idle fancy, which would be discarded once they graduated and joined the corporate work force as office drones. But not for Shizuka. She instead would follow her dream into the Renraku Security Forces, going through their basic training by day and undergoing private Kenjutsu training by night. Nothing would stop her from her goal.

Eventually, it happened: She was promoted into the Corporate Samurai, granted her Daisho, and... promptly left to rot. At least, at first; the combination of Female and Oni was enough to give many misgivings about her despite having earned her place, and no response team or executive wanted her... at first. After some time, she found herself offered a position as bodyguard to an executive in the San Francisco office. Speaking precisely no English at the time, but seeking to prove she was not a mistake, she set off for the California Free State.

On arrival, she found herself assigned to an... eccentric individual, one of the few relatively progressive executives in the megacorporation. While, of course, human and male himself, he found no issues with metahumans working for the corporation, and found many of their strengths to be 'charming and useful'. While not the wealthiest of Lords she could have been assigned to, he was at least kind and honorable. But unpopular. He knew of threats to himself from inside Renraku from other executives, but unfortunately he did not foresee the route they chose to use to eliminate him.

Subtly sabotaging his business areas and responsibilities, his enemies methodically destroyed him, and worse, his honor. His health deteriorated from the stress that she could do nothing to prevent as his superiors became increasingly infuriated with the threat to their stability, and all too soon it was 'requested' that he take the honorable path out. She acted as kaishakunin to her former Lord in this, the last service she could offer to him. But from the sick smiles from the witnesses made it clear - to her mind, at least - who was responsible. Marking each in her mind's eye, as she knelt before her former master's body, she silently swore to avenge him.

Setting out, she placed herself into contact with an individual she knew to be a Fixer - met during her previous service, his commcode retained by her Lord following their business dealings for future opportunities - and utilized an emergency slush fund that had yet to be siphoned off by the cabal of Executives in order to afford the... basic necessities of her new life.

Coming from survivors of the Yomi island concentration camp, Shizuka's family was lucky enough to find employment with Renraku Computer Systems at a facility on the island before the decree was rescinded in 2062. Being born into the megacorporation's care - even as an Oni restricted to living in a secured compound on that hellhole for the earliest years of her life - meant she was able to avoid most of the malnutrition and disease that ravaged many of her peers from the island.

For most of her childhood, as soon as she had been taught to read and speak proper Japanese, she joined her classmates in the hero-worship of the idea of the Samurai: Strong, noble warrior-philosophers, defending their people (and corporation) against all foes, honorably serving their (corporate) lords even unto death. For some, this was mere idle fancy, which would be discarded once they graduated and joined the corporate work force as office drones. But not for Shizuka. A low level Renraku manager operating out of a boring office building in Downtown, Shinji is one of those individuals who does not have a particularly challenging job. As his duties started taking up less and less of his time thanks to his automations, he began branching out into other activities to fill his day and prevent monotony.

Paying attention to others was easy enough to start, since his job involved making sure his subordinates were doing their actual jobs properly, but that quickly grew to keeping tabs on as much as possible, be it in person or on the Matrix... all for the benefit of Renraku, of course.

Coming from survivors of the Yomi island concentration camp, Shizuka's family was lucky enough to find employment with Renraku Computer Systems at a facility on the island before the decree was rescinded in 2062. Being born into the megacorporation's care - even as an Oni restricted to living in a secured compound on that hellhole for the earliest years of her life - meant she was able to avoid most of the malnutrition and disease that ravaged many of her peers from the island.

For most of her childhood, as soon as she had been taught to read and speak proper Japanese, she joined her classmates in the hero-worship of the idea of the Samurai: Strong, noble warrior-philosophers, defending their people (and corporation) against all foes, honorably serving their (corporate) lords even unto death. For some, this was mere idle fancy, which would be discarded once they graduated and joined the corporate work force as office drones. But not for Shizuka. She instead would follow her dream into the Renraku Security Forces, going through their basic training by day and undergoing private Kenjutsu training by night. Nothing would stop her from her goal.

Eventually, it happened: She was promoted into the Corporate Samurai, granted her Daisho, and... promptly left to rot. At least, at first; the combination of Female and Oni was enough to give many misgivings about her despite having earned her place, and no response team or executive wanted her... at first. After some time, she found herself offered a position as bodyguard to an executive in the San Francisco office. Speaking precisely no English at the time, but seeking to prove she was not a mistake, she set off for the California Free State.

On arrival, she found herself assigned to an... eccentric individual, one of the few relatively progressive executives in the megacorporation. While, of course, human and male himself, he found no issues with metahumans working for the corporation, and found many of their strengths to be 'charming and useful'. While not the wealthiest of Lords she could have been assigned to, he was at least kind and honorable. But unpopular. He knew of threats to himself from inside Renraku from other executives, but unfortunately he did not foresee the route they chose to use to eliminate him.

Subtly sabotaging his business areas and responsibilities, his enemies methodically destroyed him, and worse, his honor. His health deteriorated from the stress that she could do nothing to prevent as his superiors became increasingly infuriated with the threat to their stability, and all too soon it was 'requested' that he take the honorable path out. She acted as kaishakunin to her former Lord in this, the last service she could offer to him. But from the sick smiles from the witnesses made it clear - to her mind, at least - who was responsible. Marking each in her mind's eye, as she knelt before her former master's body, she silently swore to avenge him.

Setting out, she placed herself into contact with an individual she knew to be a Fixer - met during her previous service, his commcode retained by her Lord following their business dealings for future opportunities - and utilized an emergency slush fund that had yet to be siphoned off by the cabal of Executives in order to afford the... basic necessities of her new life.

For most of her childhood, as soon as she had been taught to read and speak proper Japanese, she joined her classmates in the hero-worship of the idea of the Samurai: Strong, noble warrior-philosophers, defending their people (and corporation) against all foes, honorably serving their (corporate) lords even unto death. For some, this was mere idle fancy, which would be discarded once they graduated and joined the corporate work force as office drones. But not for Shizuka. She instead would follow her dream into the Renraku Security Forces, going through their basic training by day and undergoing private Kenjutsu training by night. Nothing would stop her from her goal.

Eventually, it happened: She was promoted into the Corporate Samurai, granted her Daisho, and... promptly left to rot. At least, at first; the combination of Female and Oni was enough to give many misgivings about her despite having earned her place, and no response team or executive wanted her... at first. After some time, she found herself offered a position as bodyguard to an executive in the San Francisco office. Speaking precisely no English at the time, but seeking to prove she was not a mistake, she set off for the California Free State.

On arrival, she found herself assigned to an... eccentric individual, one of the few relatively progressive executives in the megacorporation. While, of course, human and male himself, he found no issues with metahumans working for the corporation, and found many of their strengths to be 'charming and useful'. While not the wealthiest of Lords she could have been assigned to, he was at least kind and honorable. But unpopular. He knew of threats to himself from inside Renraku from other executives, but unfortunately he did not foresee the route they chose to use to eliminate him.

Subtly sabotaging his business areas and responsibilities, his enemies methodically destroyed him, and worse, his honor. His health deteriorated from the stress that she could do nothing to prevent as his superiors became increasingly infuriated with the threat to their stability, and all too soon it was 'requested' that he take the honorable path out. She acted as kaishakunin to her former Lord in this, the last service she could offer to him. But from the sick smiles from the witnesses made it clear - to her mind, at least - who was responsible. Marking each in her mind's eye, as she knelt before her former master's body, she silently swore to avenge him.

Setting out, she placed herself into contact with an individual she knew to be a Fixer - met during her previous service, his commcode retained by her Lord following their business dealings for future opportunities - and utilized an emergency slush fund that had yet to be siphoned off by the cabal of Executives in order to afford the... basic necessities of her new life.

A low level Renraku manager operating out of a boring office building in Downtown, Shinji is one of those individuals who does not have a particularly challenging job. As his duties started taking up less and less of his time thanks to his automations, he began branching out into other activities to fill his day and prevent monotony.

Paying attention to others was easy enough to start, since his job involved making sure his subordinates were doing their actual jobs properly, but that quickly grew to keeping tabs on as much as possible, be it in person or on the Matrix... all for the benefit of Renraku, of course.

==Background==

Life was pretty boring for Delia up until her 16th birthday. Well, for someone in Los Angeles; between the riots and the annexation of LA into the Pueblo Corporate Council, things could have gotten plenty interesting if not for her parents' wealth offering protection from the common rabble. She grew up under the care of one nanny or another, as both of her human parents - Spinrad Executives since the earliest days - had little time for the Elf they found themselves accidentally saddled with due to a small mistake during an enforced vacation. Without friends she could reliably talk to in person, she found herself turning to the Matrix in her early teens to cope with the loneliness.

There she found a miraculous inspiration, stumbling across a livestream being done by an actual group of Shadowrunners! Idolizing those rebels striking back against corporate strongholds - even if they were in on the whole thing, since it was LA runners - she quickly fell in love both with the concept and the medium. As soon as she could, she took to streaming herself - games, mostly, but sometimes just live chats with other people. The little corporate princess would do anything for a little social contact in her ivory tower.

As soon as she turned 16, everything went into a flurry of action. Spinrad had managed to reacquire its place as an AA-rated megacorporation, meaning that her parents' SINs - both full, of course - were reissued, and she herself was granted a shiny new one as their only child. But to make matters worse, this also meant she was torn from her home and cast - to her opinion - into the oblivion of Seattle as her parents were reassigned to lead an important business opportunity there. She still had her streaming to cling to, but more and more she found herself suffocating under sudden expectations. Get a degree. Graduate with honors. Become an executive, just like us. Be like us. Hide your ears. Act more normal. Ugh.

She'd barely turned 18 by the time they were pushing her into college, at first trying to bribe her with popular augmentations (all Spinrad label and heavily subsidized), and later moving to outright threats to disown her. She tried, of course; she didn't hate her parents after all. But it just wasn't a good fit for her. She dropped out after her first semester, and pre-empted them by moving out with all of her things in the middle of the night, leaving them to think she had been kidnapped or something.

Instead, she moved into a ratty apartment in a bad part of Seattle, and struggled. Her streaming brought in enough on donations alone to support the apartment, but it was garbage to someone who grew up eating real food, sleeping in real beds... until she got a little ping through the Matrix, someone who had seen her frequenting the LA Runner streams. "Hey Kid, you wanna be like them?"

Years down the line, it's hard for her to remember the times before she was a runner in her own right. Sure, she's not as flash as the ones operating in Los Angeles - who could be, stuck up here? - but with every run she's gotten a little faster, a little cannier, a little shinier.

There she found a miraculous inspiration, stumbling across a livestream being done by an actual group of Shadowrunners! Idolizing those rebels striking back against corporate strongholds - even if they were in on the whole thing, since it was LA runners - she quickly fell in love both with the concept and the medium. As soon as she could, she took to streaming herself - games, mostly, but sometimes just live chats with other people. The little corporate princess would do anything for a little social contact in her ivory tower.

As soon as she turned 16, everything went into a flurry of action. Spinrad had managed to reacquire its place as an AA-rated megacorporation, meaning that her parents' SINs - both full, of course - were reissued, and she herself was granted a shiny new one as their only child. But to make matters worse, this also meant she was torn from her home and cast - to her opinion - into the oblivion of Seattle as her parents were reassigned to lead an important business opportunity there. She still had her streaming to cling to, but more and more she found herself suffocating under sudden expectations. Get a degree. Graduate with honors. Become an executive, just like us. Be like us. Hide your ears. Act more normal. Ugh.

She'd barely turned 18 by the time they were pushing her into college, at first trying to bribe her with popular augmentations (all Spinrad label and heavily subsidized), and later moving to outright threats to disown her. Life was pretty boring for Delia up until her 16th birthday. Well, for someone in Los Angeles; between the riots and the annexation of LA into the Pueblo Corporate Council, things could have gotten plenty interesting if not for her parents' wealth offering protection from the common rabble. She grew up under the care of one nanny or another, as both of her human parents - Spinrad Executives since the earliest days - had little time for the Elf they found themselves accidentally saddled with due to a small mistake during an enforced vacation. Without friends she could reliably talk to in person, she found herself turning to the Matrix in her early teens to cope with the loneliness.

There she found a miraculous inspiration, stumbling across a livestream being done by an actual group of Shadowrunners! Idolizing those rebels striking back against corporate strongholds - even if they were in on the whole thing, since it was LA runners - she quickly fell in love both with the concept and the medium. As soon as she could, she took to streaming herself - games, mostly, but sometimes just live chats with other people. The little corporate princess would do anything for a little social contact in her ivory tower.

As soon as she turned 16, everything went into a flurry of action. Spinrad had managed to reacquire its place as an AA-rated megacorporation, meaning that her parents' SINs - both full, of course - were reissued, and she herself was granted a shiny new one as their only child. But to make matters worse, this also meant she was torn from her home and cast - to her opinion - into the oblivion of Seattle as her parents were reassigned to lead an important business opportunity there. She still had her streaming to cling to, but more and more she found herself suffocating under sudden expectations. Get a degree. Graduate with honors. Become an executive, just like us. Be like us. Hide your ears. Act more normal. Ugh.

She'd barely turned 18 by the time they were pushing her into college, at first trying to bribe her with popular augmentations (all Spinrad label and heavily subsidized), and later moving to outright threats to disown her. She tried, of course; she didn't hate her parents after all. But it just wasn't a good fit for her. She dropped out after her first semester, and pre-empted them by moving out with all of her things in the middle of the night, leaving them to think she had been kidnapped or something.

Instead, she moved into a ratty apartment in a bad part of Seattle, and struggled. Her streaming brought in enough on donations alone to support the apartment, but it was garbage to someone who grew up eating real food, sleeping in real beds... until she got a little ping through the Matrix, someone who had seen her frequenting the LA Runner streams. "Hey Kid, you wanna be like them?"

Years down the line, it's hard for her to remember the times before she was a runner in her own right. Sure, she's not as flash as the ones operating in Los Angeles - who could be, stuck up here? - but with every run she's gotten a little faster, a little cannier, a little shinier.
