Whether in the boardroom of a AAA megacorp or the smoke filled drug den of a gang boss, if there's a deal to be made, Yang is there to ensure that his team comes out on top. A former corporate operator, Yang has fallen off the ladder and into the shadows. His professional background gives him in-depth knowledge of megacorporate operations whilst his aura of easy-confidence and trustworthiness, allows him to blend into any social setting, until it's time to con and swindle his mark.

Physically, he is a charming if not unassuming mundane human, often dressed in a well-fitted suit. Outside of social situations, Yang "leads from the rear" often giving directions on subjects he has surface-level knowledge of mixed in with cliche management catch phrases, earning him the nickname "Backseat".

Whilst an absolute professional while on a run, he is a self-described degenerate with a moderate novacoke addiction, frequent gambler and a proclivity for the working ladies. Despite his vices, he is a genuinely gregarious person who is quick to strike up a conversation, as evidenced by his rapidly expanding rolodex of contacts.
===Goals===
Backseat runs so that he can fund his lifestyle of nihlistic degeneracy. In his moments of sobriety when he contemplates longer term goals, they would be defined as such:

* Acquire ware to compensate for physical weaknesses
* Further develop his skillset
* Build a reputation of competence and reliability with Seattle's Syndicates and Megacorp Johnsons.
* Buy a yacht (or other small boat) and join Everett Yacht Club (Patron of the Arts (Private Club))
* Gain access to pride and envy at Dante's Inferno
* Acquire an exotic pet to upgrade with expensive ware
* Achieve a lifestyle of luxury and comfort

==Background==
Born in a Hong Kong corporate enclave to a Wuxing wageslave couple, Yang was the youngest of three children. Excelling in his studies, he found himself fast-tracked through the corporate education system, before receiving his placement in Wuxing subsidiary, Albion Mutual Funds. It was here he learnt the gift of the gab, convincing the wealthy to part with their Nuyen and to invest in his company's various financial products. Yang soon found himself developing another skill that would bring him one step closer to the shadows. Not wanting to merely rely on his investment analysts to ensure superior return on his client's investments, Yang would create a competitive edge by acquiring inside information on his competitors and potential investments through theft, bribery and any other means at his disposal.

It wasn't long before Wuxing noticed his underhanded tactics and rather than reprimanding him, reallocated him to the "Opposition Research" division, where teams of corporate infiltrators were sent across the globe to steal the secrets of their competitors and sabotage their efforts. Discovering a natural talent for corporate espionage, it wasn't long before he was put in charge of his own team. At the same time, this rapid success in his career led him to fall to vice, developing a novacoke addiction among other things. This eventually took a toll as an ill-planned op due to Yang's callousness resulted in his entire team being slaughtered with him narrowly escaping. Assuming him to be KIA, Wuxing followed standard procedure and burnt him, revoking his SIN and access to his assets to deny any association with him.

After realising that there was nothing left for him in Hong Kong, he made his way to Seattle, a city he had always liked when he was there on business. Viewing it as a city of opportunity, Yang is determined to build a fortune for himself as an independant Shadowrunner.

When not on a run, Yang lives what most would call the good life - if you weren't paying attention to how hollow it really is.

His high-rise in downtown Seattle is a masterpiece of curated emptiness: floor-to-ceiling smartglass, furniture so sleek it seems allergic to fingerprints, lighting that shifts with his mood or the weather outside. The space is immaculate, sterile—a showroom, not a home. The fridge hums with vintage champagne and bottled water rather than actual food, and a living room designed more for first impressions than comfort. The art on the walls? Expensive. The artist? Irrelevant. The AR interface for the place is seamless and custom, tuned to silence and low jazz. Yang doesn’t live here. He resets here. Sometimes, he brings home a hookup from Dante’s. For them, the apartment serves its only real purpose: proof he belongs.

But his real life happens outside, in the shadows between Seattle’s neon and steel.

* Dante's Inferno: If the devil wears Armante, Yang buys him a drink. He runs with trust-fund corpos and marketing elites who think he’s in "executive strategy." They love him because he’s just reckless enough to be interesting, just connected enough to be useful.
* THE Sports Bar: He bets big, loses louder, and wins with uncanny timing. The regulars call it luck. The bookies call it a pattern.
* Tickler’s (and other adult entertainment venues): These aren’t just vices. They’re rituals. The madames know his voice, not his name; his preferences, not his story. He books by the hour, tips in crisp credsticks, and treats pleasure like a checklist—efficient, practiced, perfunctory. He watches without seeing, touches without feeling, and sometimes—when the right synth-opiate haze hits—he almost pretends it means something.
* Lee Chee Garden: If Yang has anything close to family in Seattle, it’s the older Triad uncles and mid-tier enforcers who slouch in the back booth over baijiu and lacquered duck. He drinks tea with them, trades gossip and has his pharmaceutical needs fulfilled.
* [[Backseat Solutions]]: Following a string of successful runs since joining the haven, Backseat has opened his own front company, complete with it's own office space in Downtown Seattle. While initially intended as just a front to launder Nuyen from his runs, various enquiries have begun creeping in, to Yang's annoyance. While he instructs his junior associate [[Elliot Kwan]] to dismiss 95% of them, client's with particularly heart-wrenching stories or interesting projects are accepted. Yang often delegates as much of this work to his associate as possible. As more legitimate work came in, [[Sophia Zhang]] was brought in as a senior consultant to lead the work.

The Velvet Trap is a low-class brothel owned and operated by The Octagon Triad. Nestled in a rundown section of Tacoma, where the industrial zones meet the fringes of low-income residential housing, it caters to a wide range of clients from dock workers and factory hands to off duty KE officers and other desperate souls looking for cheap companionship. The place isn’t fancy, with flickering neon signage, dim red lighting, and a haze of synth-smoke in the air but it does steady business and, most importantly, doesn’t attract the kind of attention high-end establishments do.

==Distinctive Features==
The building used to be a warehouse, abandoned after the collapse of a local shipping outfit. A few years back, the Octagon picked it up cheap through shell companies and quietly converted it into a brothel. As you enter through the door under a neon sign, you are greeted to a reception area flushed with dim red lighting. The air smells of perfume, cigarettes, old leather and incense with something just faintly chemical.

The front desk is staffed by Mr Yu, a stoic Triad frontman who greets customers, takes bookings and ensures no trouble occurs under his watch. At his desk are discreet AR overlays for patrons to view available "escorts". Past the front desk is a corridor filled with individual booths, covered by red velvet drapes, offering patrons privacy while they wait to be collected. Further in are barely soundproofed rooms with slightly worn beds and stylised mirrors where business is conducted.

Triad soliders act as security, lingering in the staff room behind the reception desk or discretely posing as patrons, ready to react at any sign of trouble.

While the front-facing operation provides companionship, hidden away backrooms tucked behind a false wall and shielded with noise baffling and wireless signal supressing technology are kept available to be used as saferooms for triad members and other select few who are vouched for by Mr Yu. Beneath each saferoom is a trapdoor leading to a prohibition-era smuggling tunnel that can be used as an escape route which leads to a delivery hatch behind a noodle stand two blocks away.

==Summary==
The Runners are hired by [[Carleton Moreau]] to conduct due diligence on Akira Pharmaceuticals, a corporation targeted for a hostile takeover by brother-in-law Thurston. The team must uncover internal financials, research project statuses, and any blackmail-worthy scandals before the boardroom knives come out. As the team digs deeper, they come into conflict with the Office of Corporate Safety, Akira's internal black-ops team reporting directly to CEO John Akira.
==Background==
[[Carleton Moreau]] is hiring a runner team for his brother-in-law Thurston, who is planning a hostile takeover and breakup of Akira Pharmaceuticals as this will allow him to profit from his major short positions. The company primarily engages in biomedical research, with research facilities based in Redmond, Seattle and corporate offices located in Waterloo.
==The Meet==
The meet is held at Carleton's office in the [[Zephyr-South Multi-Use building]] in Redmond. [[Oracle]] (Decker) and [[Triage]] (Face/Medic/Summoner) arrive first, followed by [[Backseat]] (Face). Whilst in the elevator to Carleton's office, Backseat discovers a hidden RFID tag. Backseat brings it to the office, alerting the rest of the team. Oracle traces the tag to John Hoover, the director of surveillance at Akira Pharmaceuticals who reports directly to John Akira, the CEO. Once Oracle confirms that no data had been sent out from the tag, Triage destroys it.

Withe bug dealt with, Carleton explains Thurston's interest in the company, offering them 20,000 Nuyen each to obtain internal financial documents and uncover the status of their major research projects. He also offers them a further 2500 Nuyen each to uncover any scandals that could be used to bring negative attention to the company. Backseat and Triage attempt to negotiate an increase in pay but instead agree to a 50% discount in products sold by Thurston's various companies, including cars, guns, cyberware and bioware. With the pay agreed on, Carleton arranges a divination for them and allows them the use of his office before leaving to attend business.

==The Plan==
The team set out to gather intel on Akira Pharmaceuticals to inform their next move. First they visit Carleton's seer for a divination and tarot reading. The tarot reading vaguely hints at the obstacles they will face and the approach they should take, whilst the divination reveals to them the corporate operatives that they'll face. With his information, the team return to the office to begin legwork. With the aid of Backseat's assistant [[Elliot Kwan]], Oracle begins conducting matrix research of the company. Meanwhile Triage summons a spirit to search for one of the operatives seen in the divination. The spirit eventually tracks them down to the [[Underhaven Grotto Hotel]]. Backseat contacts one of the concierge, which he has had previous dealings with, to gather more intel. She informs him that she checked in with a group, likely the other members of the Office of Corporate Safety.

Eventually, Oracle's matrix search has compiled a list of the company's product and commercial teams, important members of those teams and publically available news. The team plan to first investigate the product teams as they're based in Redmond, before flying out to Waterloo for the commercial offices.
==The Run==

Seattle

The team conduct a mass surveillance campaign against important Akira employees working across the various teams based in Redmond. Having identified their addresses through Oracle's matrix search, Backseat and Triage disguise themselves as extended car warranty salesman, planting stealth tags on their vehicles and bug pens in their pockets. The bugging reveals the truth behind the developement of various products, with Genomics being revealed to be a failure, research and technology having suspicious expense reports and Virology hinting to be involved with HMMV research as well as a KE investigation.

The team decide to look into the Virology department further, with Backseat and Oracle contacting [[Victor 'Vic' Reyes]], a KE detective they both know, who agrees to find out what he can about the investigation. While they wait, they decide to look further into Serin, a director in the Virology department, who managed to find the bug pen planted on her disposed of it before any useful information could be found. Following the stealth tag planted on her vehicle, they track her down to [[Black Tie Affair]], a mafia run piano bar.

Finding her there, Triage distracts Serin while Backseat quickly steals her wireless enabled taser, handing it to Oracle who takes it to the toilet to attempt to gain access to her commlink. An unknown decker appears however, bricking the taser and preventing Oracle from completing the hack. Realising that they were facing opposition, Triage astrally perceives the presence of a watcher spirit while Backseat notices two people fitting the build of two of the corporate operatives that they knew about. Backseat can feel a presence probing his mind however, he is able to resist it, keeping their cover safe. Not wanting to draw further suspicion to themselves, Backseat and Triage find a table to sit at. The operatives get up to leave, with one of them attempting to sneak a stealth bug onto Backseat as well as rubbing genemarked pheromones onto his coat.

With their datasteal attempt foiled and now paranoid about the corporate operatives, the team decide to regroup at Oracle's apartment. Backseat makes a detour to a brothel where he dumps the stealth tag and washes the pheremones from his coat before joining the rest of the team. The next morning, they receive an autopsy report from their KE contact which suggests that it is highly probable that the company is involved with recruiting subjects amongst Redmond's destitute to participate in HMMV studies, and then disposing of the bodies. Satisfied that this can be used to generate bad press for the company, the team plan their trip to waterloo, organising R6 burner SINs as well as required fake licenses.

Waterloo

Boarding their flight from [[Thun Field]], the team travel to the former canadian city of Waterloo. During the flight, Oracle conducts a matrix search of their target, Veronica Lake, a rising star in Akira's Finance and Accounting department. Upon arrival, the team go to their hotel, where disguises are built and put on before setting out to intercept Veronica on her lunch break at a cafe popular with Akira employees. Here, the routine is repeated, with Triage distracting the target while Backseat steals her commlink and Oracle conducting the hack. With the company's financial statements and other confidential information in their hands, the runners complete their run.

Shortly after, it was reported in the news ([[Double Trouble for Akira]]) that Sirin had been reported missing and Veronica found dead in a car accident.

Sophia Zhang was once the crown jewel of UW Seattle’s School of Business. A star pupil with a razor-sharp mind with a graduate job at a major Horizon affiliate lined up—everyone assumed she’d make management before 30. But pressure, expectation, and one especially toxic internship pushed her over the edge.

She dropped out in her final year. Disappeared. Rumor had it she fell into simsense escapism, burning through her savings and mind on BTL chips. By the time she came out the other side, her academic momentum was gone, her reputation stained, and her SIN flagged by several corp-backed employment networks.

The door to the megacorp ladder was closed.

Still, she was determined to turn her life around, eventually walking through the doors of [[Backseat Solutions]] for an interview. Atlhough the company was initially established as a front for money laundering, legitimate work had continued to trickle in, requiring someone competant to do the real work. When Backseat interviewed her, he recognized something familiar in her: raw talent hidden behind burnout and disappointment.

He hired her the next morning.

Sophia now handles most of the actual consulting work that gets through Elliot's filter. She leads the legitimate engagements that Backseat finds too boring and Elliot too incompetant to handle.

She knows something about the business is off. The fake-sounding client names, the constant absence of her boss at the office and the suspicious data reviews that [[Backseat]] often sends her... But she doesn’t pry. Not yet. The work is interesting, she's getting paid and she's beginning to get a good idea of what's actually going on. And she wants in.

Nestled in a mid-tier corporate building in central downtown Seattle, Backseat Solutions occupies a modest unit on the 19th floor, presenting itself as a boutique strategic consulting firm.

The office itself is clean, modern, and suspiciously minimalist. A glowing smart-glass plaque at the door reads “[[Backseat]] Solutions – We steer the deal, you take the credit.” Inside, the waiting area features two angular chairs, a synthwood coffee table stacked with outdated industry magazines, and a reception desk manned by [[Elliot Kwan]]—a too-eager, questionably competent assistant in a budget blazer.

A single hallway leads pass a rarely-used conference room to Backseat’s personal office: a sleek, sparsely decorated room with floor-to-ceiling smartglass windows overlooking downtown, a programmable AR interface, and a high-end desk that always looks suspiciously unused. Against one of the walls is a locked cabinet, filled with burner commlinks, forged credentials, drugs and other quasilegal items.

The decor suggests a consultancy that values discretion and bespoke service. The reality is... a little different.

===Background===
[[Backseat]] Solutions is a front company, pure and simple. It was established by Jay "[[Backseat]]" Yang to launder money from his runs through the illusion of a boutique consulting firm. The business has all the surface trappings—paperwork, a license, some digital marketing, and one slightly confused assistant—but it’s not meant to be profitable. Just believable.

The day-to-day “operations” are handled by [[Elliot Kwan]], a recent business grad who thinks he’s landed his big break. He handles inquiries, schedules meetings, and unknowingly helps with matrix legwork for runs.

Despite Backseat’s best efforts to keep the office quiet, real clients do trickle in—usually small business owners on the brink, drawn in by the vague name on the directory or a whisper from another desperate entrepreneur. Most are looking for help with debt restructuring, social engineering tactics, or salvaging failing shops.

Backseat dismisses most—but every now and then, he takes one on. Not because it's good business, but because it keeps up appearances. And maybe, just maybe, because helping someone out now and then feels annoyingly good.

He charges just enough to cover the rent and keep the regulators off his back. The rest of the time, the office serves as a clean shell for illicit nuyen and the occasional unlisted “executive session” with people who look nothing like small-business owners.
