In order to stay safe, she reaches out to a corp in the UCAS, offering to work for them if they would get her out of Egypt. They accepted and life may have been dull for the next few years, but at least it was safe. At least, that was until she ~~developed~~ a disease in her nervous system and was hospitalized for a month while doctors ~~tried~~ to ~~fix it without surgery~~. Eventually it was deemed needed and a date was set. Unfortunately, by this point, ~~the rival company~~ had figured out where she was and ~~hired~~ shadowrunners to break into the hospital and swap the procedure assigned to her with another patient who was set to receive MBW. Not only did this completely destroy her essence, but when the corp came to retrieve her post-surgery, they couldn't find her. ~~She~~ was assumed dead, her SIN ~~effectively~~ burned~~, and soon~~, unable to pay for continued care, she was kicked out onto the street. One of the runners from the team felt bad for what they'd done and introduced Maria to their fixer. Then about a week after that she started feeling tired, and a little in pain, but nothing a couple painkillers couldn't fix. Then, around a month after her walk she collapsed while on the job. Lyme disease has eaten away her nervous system and she was hospitalized for a month while doctors pumped her body full of antibiotics to kill the disease. Eventually it gone but the damage was done. Surgery was deemed needed and a date was set. Unfortunately, by this point, a vindictive ex-employee had figured out where she was and had enough money to hire a couple of shadowrunners to break into the hospital and swap the procedure assigned to her with another patient who was set to receive MBW. Not only did this completely destroy her essence, but when the corp came to retrieve her post-surgery, they couldn't find her. People jealous of the power she had held quickly made sure she was assumed dead and her SIN burned. Soon, unable to pay for continued care, she was kicked out onto the street. One of the runners from the team felt bad for what they'd done and introduced Maria to their fixer. Thus began the career of Khentiamentiu
