			A former special forces rigger for the Russian army, Sofiya Pavlovna got dishonorably discharged and stripped of her rank as a captain after she was sabotaged by the lieutenant colonel overseeing the rigger company. The officer had grown suspicious of Sofiya's constant hunger for promotions and disliked the thought of losing such a comfortable position up in the brass. With a suitable bribe, one of the Russian military deckers snuck in faulty code in Sofiya's RCC as a bootstrap protocol, causing her to get faulty calculations for artillery projections during a larger scale operation.

			The results are catastrophic. A heavy, 20-kilogramme artillery shell went wide by over a kilometer and slaughtered over forty corporals of loyal Russian infantry. The lieutenant-colonel was quick to act and have military police arrest her. While she surrendered without a fight, assuming there had to be a mistake, her trial was laughably one-sided and her former service was the only shield preventing her from spending the rest of her life in prison. Still unaware of the sabotage, she went back and looked at her ballistic calculations closely in her last week at the base of operations she used to live at was now going to be kicked out of.

			She attempted to bring her discovery of a potential foreign spy to the military police, but her efforts were in vain. Infuriated, she took a flight out of Russia to try and find work as a mercenary instead. If she couldn't reach glory as a soldier, she could reach glory of a different sort. Glory through combat, through prestige and unparalleled reputation. Or something like that.

			Besides, who cares if UCAS' laws are broken? Not her country, not her problem -- as long as she doesn't get caught.
