			I like to write detailed-ish backstories to most of the npcs, and settings I run, so searching for lore bits, and personal information is a possibility if so inclined by the players

I GM by the philosophy of the players and the GM create the story together. So I only railroad, when absolutely necessary. Because of this, the chance of the run increasing in length is a very realistic possibility, as long as everyone is having fun at the table.
I plan to only interfere with how a character acts, if it might cause distress to the other players.
