Summary

In which the runners are hired to wreck a wedding by extracting the bride.

The Meet

Mr. Johnson - an employee of Renraku Computer Systems - has the runners meet with him at a restaurant Downtown, where he explains what he needs from them: his lover is arranged to be married to an ally of Renraku in the Yakuza, and he wants them to stop the wedding from taking place. The team ask a few pertinent questions (namely: "Are you actually lovers, and does she actually want to get married?"), and Mr. J explains that she is honor-bound to do so because of the nature of their corporate culture (earning him some mocking remarks from Samsara). After settling on a price of 10 grand each, they agree to perform the job.

The Plan

Debating their options, the team come up with a few plans. Initially considering a straight up attack on the wedding itself, they discount that due to the high likelihood of heavy security from both Renraku and the Yakuza, and the danger of unintended causalities. Before committing to a course of action, they decide that they should confirm whether or not the target actually wants to be extracted, so Canter locates her information on the Matrix and confirms that she lives in an non-ET building in Downtown. Contacting her on a burner commlink, they assess the situation and confirm that while she has feelings for the J, she believes that she has to go through with the wedding. Satisfied that the J isn't some creep and not particularly caring much for either of them beyond that, the team set up an extraction plan to get their target and the J to Corf and have him take them away to Montreal.

The Run

Having located the target's building, the team hop into Canter's ride and post up nearby while Pell goes inside using a fake SIN and pulls the fire alarm, forcing the residents to evacuate out into the street. Canter pulls up and uses a pickup maneuver to scoop the target up into her vehicle, and the runners take off (leaving horse photos - Canter's signature - behind to mark their crimes). They are pursued by a KE helicopter which Pell and Rhicter take pot-shots at in an attempt to brick the engine block, however it's a fumbled shot from Samsara with an assault cannon which finally forces it to land in order to avoid a crash. Speeding away from the scene towards the OU, the team are able to make their escape.

Aftermath

Arranging a hand-off with Mr. J, the team have him meet them in the OU near an abandoned subway station where Corf waits to take him and his lover away. The two are bemused with the plan, however they realize that they will be hunted down by Renraku and that this will at least give them something of a headstart. "Happy ending" for all as the closing theme from The Graduate plays softly in the background on a minecart ride into the sunset.

Samsara

Fragging Renraku. I swore I'd never work for them, but this J was so fragging pathetic (he didn't even bat an eye when I insulted his corp straight to his face, probably because he knew I'd rip his throat out if he did) that I just went with it - it was a chance to mess with them by stopping this wedding, and now they have two less employees. Still, I don't feel good about it; I guess it could have been a lot worse though, and at least Corf made some new friends.

Pell

Felt like we could have done more for the J, but that's on him for not planning well. Anyway, I'm glad that I wasn't in the car when the chase happened; the escalation was pretty concerning.

Rhicter

Almost a standard extraction, who cares about the ties between the two, as long as there's a payday attached, am I right? Was going pretty clean until the helicopter showed up, I tried to take it down with a solid shot from my Ares, but it was an absolute one in a million shot from Samsara that got us out of there. And Canter's insane driving skills. Insane. Seriously, that old woman can really drive. But I digress; mission accomplished, paycheck cashed, all is well.

Canter

I don't particularly feel comfortable with what we did. I mean, we saved someone, sort of. Now Renraku is gonna be after them, and the Yakuza. The J is a romantic idiot. I hope they're ok.
