===Summary===

In meatspace, Alderic is a silver-tongued debonair man with Old World flair. A charming conversationalist and incorrigible flirt, Alderic has a penchant for persuasion and knack for subterfuge that makes him ideal in all aspects of social infiltration. Within the Matrix, however, he is Reynard! The trickster fox who prefers it loud, flashy and fast! Who needs whisper-quiet hacks when you can hit ‘em right where it hurts?

==Background==

The family tree of House Chalons is ancient; its roots run deep into the soil of history, during the Age of Capet and Angevin, when loyalty to liege was more important than loyalty to land. Though the House never became anything more than a local power, time and adversity had not tarnished Chalon’s luster. When the Fifth World gave way to the Sixth, House Chalons adapted with the capricious whimsy of fate and attached itself to the Thales Corporation, which eventually melded into the Megacorporate entity Espirit Industries. The bigger fish eating the little fish, c’est la vie.

It was into this world that Alderic was born. I will not bore you with the minutia of his upbringing, for there is precious little to be said that is notable; he was a nobleman’s son, a flower of the corporation. Intelligent, charming and possessing of a natural skill with electronics, Alderic’s life was carefully mapped and plotted into a position befitting his station, a golden cog in the byzantine machine. A tragic yachting accident upon the River Seine cost him his arm, but the replacement was every bit as capable as the old flesh, modified in the baroque fashion that had begun to see a resurgence in the French nation. He lived, he loved, and he eventually found himself a place in middle-management, and a place in the eyes of the nation as a media darling, the apprentice of Herbet de Vaucanson with all that entails.

It was such a subtle thing; a shuffling of management, a flash in the Matrix, a new tributary of funds within their financial quarterlies. Most missed it, for most were interested in reading on the scandals of Herbert de Vaucanson. But not Alderic – he noticed something was foul in Espirit Industries, and over the course of some years he eventually uncovered a dirty secret so carefully hidden beneath the headlines; his company was bought out by Aztechnology, and none other than Andre Fergman was to blame. Alderic scarcely had time to put the pieces together before getting a firm knock on his office door, followed by a firm handshake and even further hand on the shoulder. Words were exchanged about his interest in the Megacorporation’s murky dealings, compliments on his ability to uncover them too. Silken words, wrapping the steel of threat. He was offered an opportunity to take a job in Seattle – as far from France as possible – to advise Aztechnology (a foreign interest, of course) as a financial analyst. A cushy job, for sure, and one that would pay the bills. The alternative was a pleasant company-paid vacation to Nice, where his plane would tragically experience engine failure, and the nation will mourn the loss of a scion to an old and illustrious lineage. Worse, they had promised to release all the dirt they had on him during his partnership with Herbet de Vaucanson, by now mired with scandal, and thereby poison what was once such a prim and proper example of respectability. How could he refuse?

Verbosity can be seen as pomposity, confidence as arrogance, it isn't hard to see him as an upjumped blue-blood dripping with that "holier than thou" attitude so despised by all below the salt. Whether it's the Fifth World or the Sixth, people hate an asshole.
