Summary

The runners find a pair of pathetic wageslaves in an alley - the Js - who ask them to help their son get back to college because he's starting his own gang. They head over to a destroyed bathhouse, expecting a fight, but end up finding a bunch of college kids, all together for different reasons, and manage to scare them away from ganglife and into forming a band with the same name - however, the leader, Tomas, does end up back to college.

Background

Within Coalfield Bellevue, a student of Thaumotology known as Tomas Bartley was sent off from the University of Washington for his lack of care and apathy towards schoolwork. He then decided to begin trying to form a gang with fellow dropouts, but his best friend, Ceallach, also came along since college would not be the same without Tomas, and he had the Raven to guide him magically. Soon after, his father spotted him going into the abandoned bathhouse, and got to the ShadowHaven net in search of help. With the recent death of his uncle and the will finally being processed, he had 200,000¥ in inheritance, making this possibility a reality.

The Meet

Showing up to the job, the runners are greeted with a comically unprepared set of Js - the Bartleys. They meet not in a bar or in their home, but instead in an alleyway about a block away from the sight of the bathhouse they suspect that their son is in. The father comes to them, giving as much information as he can, and Caliban quickly hacks into their commlinks - boring wageslave junk, but she does find two interesting messages - the message from U-Dub regarding Tomas's failing grades, and the transaction of the inheritance from his uncle's death. She informs the others, and, lead by Akuma, they manage to make him pay a bit more.

The Plan

Planning was rather simple for this job - they eventually ended on going in, with Akuma using her Yakuza-ties to force them to leave for fear of the Yakuza's wrath.

The Run

The sound of not-terrible music was being played from the inside of the bathhouse, as Caliban spotted a baby-decker: blood in the water, as they instantly, yet stealthily, got 3 marks on them. They knocked on the door, but instead of an answer, the decker tried to check for devices at the door to prepare for who may be on the other side. However, just before, Caliban had managed to get 3 marks on her deck, and the moment she tried, her deck was completely bricked and the Slaving of 3 commlinks ended. This caused the entirety of the gang to march up to the door, demanding answers. This is when Akuma sprung her plan, but then something weird happened - when Tomas heard this, nay, when everyone but Sam heard that she was Yakuza and this was their turf, they were confused. These college kids were so sheltered, or were just not used to the area at all, that they didn't know who the Yakuza was. All of them, except Sam, who has shook by Akuma's words, and went to Tomas to tell him. He thought he could play tough in response, but Akuma's tougher, and with guns drawn, they backed down, revealing partially their reasons for being a gang - Mark just wanted to be a talismonger and needed money, Tomas thought it was cool rather boyishly, and Kent wanted to start a band but Tomas made it into a gang.

With this reveal, Caliban suggested over DNI that they tell them to make a band, and so it was commanded by the runners, as it reveals that Sam Sam always wanted to be a drummer, and Mark was fine being a screamer secondary vocalist, the 5 decided that was a perfect idea - however, Tomas had no musical talent, no money, and thought he couldn't try again at college. However, it was revealed he could, and, more dishearteningly, that his uncle had died, and the 200,000¥ inheritance would be enough to at least get a bachelors, so that he could work at Pentacle Distribution. His gusto lost at the mention of his beloved uncle dead, he resigned, heading back to the family with the runners, as the other 5 began to form into a band with the same name as their admittedly very-band name gang - Medea Meets Medusa.

Aftermath

All is won, as Tomas is brought back and the money is used to send him back to college, the runners are paid, and the band begins to form. A rather happy ending for a day in Seattle, but sometimes Fate just turns out that way.
