Summary

Four runners get hired to play out MvM by the shadowrun equivalent of Redmond Mann in a 'friendly game' of possibly lethal capture the flag.

Background

The client and his old friend, long retired, have had a longstanding game of sorts between the two of them: Fighting over an old Little League trophy, with one heavily fortifying a base of operations and the other doing their best to siege it and take the trophy by morning. However, this time the client was unable to set up his base of operations- some unknowns had taken the place in his absence from last time, and as such it became prudent to hire out the job of setting up a defense and holding the line to runners by sending them off to some other property that the two friends could afford to have destroyed.

The Meet

The four runners individually make their way over to the meet in Downtown, in what was essentially a luxury villa for visiting aristocrats. There, they met their client, an elderly dwarven man who was still spry and energetic but...was getting there. He explained the situation to the runners, who prompted him with questions on the rules of engagement ("Just don't do anything that will get the cops to have to care, don't break the trophy") and for how lethal this game was expected to be. Some had their concerns at the lack of care for livelihoods in this game, but for the most part the runners agreed to 'hey, live rounds at us means live rounds at them.' They settled on a pay of 18k nooj per head, and with the schematics sent over and an address given, the team headed off to this abandoned little home.

The Plan

The defense was to take place at an old 2 floor farmhouse, not quite rundown but not exactly lived in either. The trophy was rather exposed in the living room in the middle of the first floor. They had work to do

They buried the damn trophy under the floorboards of the utility closet, where Garuda would be performing her matrix duties from. They cut down trees using a damn monofilament chainsaw to make a canopy sniper nest for Wraith on the balcony. They set up MULTIPLE MINES in this potential family house yard, with about 6 different tripwire mines covering the east and interior of the building. They set up cameras all over the place, courtesy of Saint, who was covering the one blindspot with her radar scanner. They even splashed water across the floor of the kitchen, then ripped out wires to turn it into an electric floor trap! Sniper holes, camo, extra barricades, a changeling sitting on top of floorboards on top of a trophy, they were ready for anyone brave enough to try and siege this place.

The Run

Turns out, the majority of their opposition would be drones, connected by rigger. First, they attempted to set up kanmushis to drill into the house for some reason, but Garuda managed to fork 2 marks on them and brick both at once. Then The opfor dropped a smoke ring all around the house as the main formation began to just roll in through the front. They used a juggernaut the rigger was jumped in to tag and harass the fighters of the group huddled up inside so that rotodrones 350 meters out could take pot shots. They even shot out a Garuda missile at the eastern wall, RIGHT NEXT TO GARUDA, in order to show the birdbrain who was boss. But thankfully, the team was ready for this. Saint set up direct links for Garuda to enable her hacking so she could work on disabling the rigge's RCC, with Wraith and Misfire picking off the biggest threats with a combination of detonating mines at perfect moments and heavy amounts of machine gun suppressive fire to keep the speedier assault dobermans from closing in on the prize. There were some concerned momeents, but Saint and Misfire combined managed to take out the large Juggernaut the Rigger was using to 'lead' the march, with Saint masterfully dodging volleys of drone fire to close in on the van the Rigger was at. The poor guy had to start retreating as Misfire got to work clearing out the ground level threats still left behind. Eventually, the window shield of the van the rigger was in got sliced and shot to pieces by Wraith and Saint combined, and Garuda managed to brick his RCC as he made his getaway, rendering most of the other drones impotent. From there, the rest of the night was, rather calm.

Aftermath

Morning comes around, and the team hears the funny little beep of the trophy indicating that they had succeeded in defending their objective. They let the Johnson know that the game was won, dutifully cleared out any remaining mines and equipment, and tastefully let him know that the kitchen was a death trap as they collected their pay and split ways. There were even drones for them to scavenge. Score!

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

===Garuda=== "On one hand...I am so glad we didn't actually kill anyone tonight. That, could have easily been a much bloodier event given the eagerness of the others. But, on the other...oh my God Lucky what are these jobs you give me?! A missile?? At a wooden house?!?! I was lucky I was behind 2 different reinforced walls! Ugh, maybe I should've shared a drink with the J...Gonna have to grab one later."

===Wraith=== "Huh, well what do you know, finally a job that I couldn't have done by myself with half the effort and trouble. Letting the Rigger escape was a mistake. One that luckily didn't compromise the mission. In the end, shadow runners aren't a substitute for a professional soldier."

===Misfire=== "Hah! God damn, that Rigger sure had flair. Felt good mowing down those toy soldiers, not gonna lie. Watching that tank drone eat an HE grenade like nothing reminds me how little armor piercing capabilities I have at the moment, but that stupid Krime gun that anime robot had oughta help with that. That decker kid seems kinda green, though... hope she learns how to handle this job. The sniper was a little cold blooded, but that's like half the snipers I've worked with. That elf swordlady... Well, I hope she figures out what guns are someday. Can't deny she dealt with the Rigger, though."

===Saint=== "God I fucking hate rich people."
