Captain Ortiga is a career pirate who had an unfortunate run-in with the Zobop a few years ago and escaped to Seattle.

Background
Born on a ship off the coast of Havana, Veronica Acosta was a pirate for her entire life. She learned everything she knew about magic and piracy from her parents, until they were killed in a Sukuyan attack, during which she was infected and left for dead. Her ship was set adrift and found by Zobop, who enslaved her. She broke free after about five years, killing the entire ship and reanimating their corpses as a literal skeleton crew. She fled to the Pacific, fearing Zobop retaliation, and eventually ended up in Seattle.
