Summary

The runners are tasked by Granny Tusk to find a cat that has wandered a long way from home.

Background

The cat is orange, and therefore a dumbass.

The Meet

The runners meet up outside Granny Tusk's house. After some brief introductions Shenshen knocks on the door, which is opened by a troll in a knitted jumper. After explaining they're here to meet granny, he brings them inside and takes them to her office. She explains that her charge's cat has gone missing, and despite searching for days, they've been unable to find her. She offers the runners 2000 nuyen apiece for the job, which they accept after some grumbling from Phototaxis. She hands them a photo of the cat; it's orange, of course.

The Plan

The runners plan for PT to summon a beast spirit and use its search power to find the cat's location with the photograph, and then drive there.

The Run

The runners sit back and have some drinks, and after 40 minutes the spirit returns with information on the cat's location; it's made its way into redmond, exploring the plastic jungle. They set off, and don't have any trouble entering the district. When they get to the greenhouse the spirit pointed to, they encounter a crude barricade, and 3 gangers manning it.

Limitless almost manages to resist her thrill-seeker compulsion, but Phototaxis sets her off before Shenshen can say anything. She jumps out of the truck and challenges the Troll Ganger to a duel. They engage in combat, Limitless getting some semi-effective hits in before getting frustrated with the Troll's toughness, backing up and spraying him with APDS.

He gives in after that, and she tries to make the other gangers back down, but ends up looking more awkward than tough. They aim their guns and are about to pull the trigger, but despite being surprised, Shenshen beats them to the punch, drawing her Powerblade from the astral and advancing on one of them. Phototaxis tells her spirit to engage, and it almost kills the slightly injured troll ganger.

After that, the gangers surrender, and Shenshen and Limitless make their way inside, while Phototaxis guards the truck. After not too long, they find the cat hiding in a small room. Shenshen successfully calms it down, but it takes a couple of tries to pick up the uncooperative feline, while it attempts to hack her commlink (turns out it's a bastet!). The beast spirit helps out by using animal control, and calms the cat down completely.

Aftermath

The runners get back into the truck and return towards Granny's house. They get to the checkpoint, but the guard is asleep. Shenshen wakes him up and tells him off in her best corporate mangerial tone, and he hurriedly scans her sin and opens the barrier. They get back to Granny and collect their pay, as well as some tea and cake.

Shenshen

As Hui Ying rides her bike back from her first job, she glances at the credstick in her hand, thinking out loud into her jet black bike helmet.

"Not sure if you were really worth my time. But I have to get my name out there somehow. At least noone died for it."

As she pulls into the garage of her apartment complex, she slots the stick into the side of her head, transferring the funds. Then she drops the stick, and stomps on it with her heel, shattering it completely. Can't risk much in this line of work.
