Summary

A Favor needed to be repaid. Mr. Beoulve needed a task completed. When he explained the score, I had just the disciple in mind. Obsidian has been waiting for a chance to prove herself on her own strength. It is time. Someone is disrupting the ley lines in Mr. Beoulve's land. She will discover the problems and stop it.

Background

The Ley Lines in this land is attuned to the natural environment. They are being perverted for some ego-driven goals. This will not stand. Obsidian will succeed.

The Meet

Mr. Beoulve is cryptic as always. Using a Mind probe preperation on my disciple to guide her through Redmound into SSC land. First part of the test, getting to Mr. Beoulve's house without being stopped by patrols. Ruthenium Armor and The Weaver's concealment. A simple but effective plan. Obsidian uses the Weaver's skill to guide her to the meet. Where Mr. Beoulve tells her that some mages are disrupting the Ley lands, and that her task is to find out who and stop it.

The Plan

The Plan is very simple, due to the lack of background information, a complex time would rely on unacceptable amounts of assumptions. Obsidian will traverse into where the Leylands have been forced to converge. She will decide what to do based on what she sees.

The Run

Before leaving Obsidian managed to befriend a fire spirit possessing a cloak. The cloak is of interesting design, and there is some power to this fire spirit, so it was a good use of her social charm.

Obsidian moved towards the convergence point, but was stopped by two water spirits. The spirits tried to stop her, but Obsidian and Weaver of Civilizations were too skilled for these low force bound spirits. Obsidian was able to subdue them and convince them not to continue with this line attack, and learned that there was a meeting of several mages at the lake in the center.

Obsidian then reaches the lake, and discovers the illusion sphere protecting what is later revealed to be a lodge under construction. Several Dark mages from around the area are meeting in order to help a head mage construct a Dark Magic Lodge in this Lake, and have altered the ley lines in order to do so. Such arrogance, to think they have to strength to do this without repurcussions. However, even a swarm of talentless mages can still pose a threat.

Obsidian uses the cloak possessed by the fire spirit in order to hide her appearance and decides to masquerade as a member contributing to the Lodge creation. She sneak in and listens to the leader drone about creating a new lodge. Obsidian looks around and realizes she can play the natural ego and...stupidity of Dark mages against each other.

Obsidian stands up and verbal confronts the Dark Mage, who though possessing some modicrum of skill, has a grasp that far outstrips his reach. AFter some verbal jousting, Obsidian causes the Mage to fluster and he recklessly tries to show his power and cleanses the ley lines. Failing miserably in a mistake that costs him his life and creates a mana storm.

At first I imaged Obsidian would leave with the others but, instead she once again proves her mettle and manages to convince some of the Dark mages to help her restores the warped ley lines to lessen the impact of the mana storm. Personally, death is a just reward for these egomaniacs, but dampening a mana storm is a good test of her skill, and her Paladin Oath would never let her leave these poor fools to fend for themselves.

Obsidian is then able to find the crystals after calling for Weaver of Civilization's help again. Two out of the three crystals that were altering the leylines she managed to destroy with her assault rifle. Inelegant, but sometimes the safe plan is the better plan.

With her task done, she returns to Mr. Beoulve, who offers her a spirit marker, which she happily takes.

Aftermath

Mr. Beoulve is happy the task is complete. And I got a good look of Obsidian's growth. Things are progressing nicely. The Dark Mages that survived are all at home rethinking their life's choices.
