From a young age, she was trained in traditional Okinawan martial arts, as well as in the use of the now-ubiquitous katana. She took to martial arts like a fish to water, quickly revealing herself to be a talented physical adept. By the time she was ten, she had achieved the rank of Gokyū, and by the time she turned 19, she had reached Sandan, dominating the martial arts tournament scene in the JIS. Then, shortly after her 21st birthday, she recieved the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to participate in the Split Knuckle Tournament, a brutal, no-holds-barred, pan-Pacific mixed martial arts tournament held as a joint venture between Wuxing, Inc. and Renraku Computer Systems. There were only two rules: no weapons other than implanted melee weapons, and no magic other than adept powers. She put on an exemplary performance in the qualifiers and quarterfinals, firmly securing her place in the semifinals.
