Summary

Starlight is a friendly elf mage who's become disillusioned with corporate life after realising what a gilded cage full of backstabbers it really is. She keeps her magic a secret from her family and corporate associates as much as possible, putting it to use in the shadows in the hope of finding real acceptance as a runner.

Goals

• Get back at the girls who plagiarised her work to get the college scholarship that's hers by right.
• Find new friends in the shadows.
• Command real respect and earn real love and trust by proving herself as a great mage.

Background

Born down in Cara'sir, Tir Tairngire, Sarah Palomina was a member of an extended family that spread out across North America. Family reunions were often pretty cluttered affairs, though her parents coveted those meetups to show off what a really happy family they had.

The family eventually moved up to Seattle, where her mum got an executive position at The Horizon Project. With her parents' Limited SINs came a full Corporate SIN for Sarah to replace her old Tir Tairngire one. From that moment on, Sarah became pretty obsessed with the social media side of the corporate culture, utterly falling in love with being seen and showing off her natural elfish good looks. Moreover, as she grew, she developed a pretty strong force of personality, driven off of a desire to be there for her friends as a shoulder to cry on and as someone to aspire to. She was kind, friendly, happy, and driven to be the best at everything she attempted.

As she got older, Sarah began to struggle a little with her perception of herself, which was a big problem because by then her HIP score was pretty high. Some of her classmates had taken her friendly, trusting nature to be something to aspire to, while others looked down on her and actively used it to trick and manipulate her. Her trusting nature left her naive and unprepared for the corporate world, and after a couple of other girls plagiarised her work for a college scholarship, Sarah was distraught. How could people use and abandon each other like that?

Trying to puzzle through it, Sarah left the corporate enclave she'd grown up in, hanging out on the streets for a few days, perhaps just in the name of being edgy and collecting her thoughts.

While hanging out in one less-travelled alley, she caught sight of a giant shaggy black dog, with the look of a feral Caucasian Ovcharka. It limped towards her, growling aggressively. Sarah was hesitant at first, but when it was clear that it was alone, she took a leap of faith and approached it, holding its paw and carefully bandaging it up. To her shock, the dog didn't bite her or lash out, instead speaking to her with a voice that seemed to just appear in her head with words physically unspoken. It revealed itself to be Dog, the mentor spirit of friendship and loyalty, and at his behest, Sarah Awakened.

While she wasn't incredibly skilled, and can't yet call spirits just yet, Sarah had undeniable magical power, which she put to good use almost immediately. Poring over spells, and using Dog's guidance as a jumping-off point, Sarah began to secretly learn magic, now living a double life between her going-nowhere Horizon life, and her secret life as a mage.

Striking out, Sarah began working sidelong as a shadowrunner, dipping her toe into the Seattle underworld in the hope of finding new magical phenomena and a life outside of the corps. Horizon was a gilded cage, and she saw that now, but maybe there are true friends out there...along with a future she can believe in.

Starlight is a trusting, friendly elf who really does try to see the best in people. While she's not totally stupid, that willingness to see people at their best can be turned around on her all too easily.

SINner (Corporate) (Horizon Group, Sarah Palomina)

Sarah hasn't known a life without a SIN. Originally she had a Tir Tairngire SIN, though that quickly ended up being upgraded to the full Horizon SIN. This comes with a Horizon Internal Persona (HIP) account, and a certain Stepford Wives approach to being one big smiley, happy family. She's pretty sure that Horizon has no idea she's a mage, or that she's a shadowrunner. Starlight would really love to keep it that way.

Appearance

Starlight is a semi-tall elf woman, with young, happy features (because she's an elf and also works under Horizon. C'mon), long blonde-brown hair that she tends to have back in a ponytail, and often wears a white jacket over her black tank top and matching cargo pants. She tends to go for big heavy leather boots, pink-and-white sneakers, or soft fluffy boots in winter, for all the good it'll do her sneaking-wise. She has a slight build, with arms built for hugging.

• Casual - Tends to rock black cargo pants or leggings depending on how casual she feels. Wears a tank top and sometimes an armoured jacket when she's on the go or going somewhere dangerous...or if she's cold.
