==Background==
==Background==
Born and raised in Neo-Tokyo, Mae’s early life was nothing special.
'''Iraçema Ubiratã''' was believed to be an indigenous Amazonian of Tupi origin. The details were rather fuzzy, however, as nobody bothered to keep track of the exactly tribal affiliations of a SINless orphan. She spent her early years in the forests of the Uruguay River basin, living a meagre yet relatively carefree life with her many parents. Like many in her village, she was believed to be favoured by the spirits, evidenced by her communion with them and her robust physique even as a child.

Until the age of 5.
Perhaps it was due to her “gifts”, perhaps it was pure chance, she caught the attention of a passing trader. He offered to take her, along with a few other village children, to Rio Paulo, promising citizenship, a good education and a bright future. Iraçema never knew if her parents agreed to it. Either way, a few days later she woke up on the trader’s speeding truck, without even a chance to say goodbye.

Mae Awakened early by most standards, far before reaching puberty. She doesn't speak about the incident much, but it happened around the time of the Matrix Crash 2.0. Perhaps during the subsequent panic. During this incident, her older brother, Ryouichi, died and young Mae disappeared, whisked away to the basement of some Mega Corp to be poked and prodded to find out what made her Awaken so much earlier than others.
Iraçema didn’t know what the man had in mind for her, but she didn’t want any part of it. Perhaps the man didn’t expect her to try, but she easily escaped his custody soon after arriving in Rio Paulo. The day after, Sansuri was caught stealing food from an orkish Caló camp. The orks were prepared to inflict severe punishment when one of them recognised her as a little girl stuck in a giant frame. Instead of punishing her, the elders not only forgave her but also adopted her into their clan, giving her the name '''Sansuri''', meaning “cloud giant”.

During her years of incarceration, treatment by the Corp men differed. Some days it was nice and she was pampered and fed well and treated like royalty. Other times… well, torture would have been preferred. It was sometime during these years that she developed her second personality, one that called himself “Shirudo”, a Japanese term for Shield. He Shielded the innocent Mae from the abuse she suffered at the hands of the Corp, leaving her with only pampered and protected memories.
With their new member, the Romani clan continued their wandering throughout Amazonia. Already adept to the rough living in the jungles, Sansuri easily took to their nomadic lifestyle. On the other hand, Sansuri showed little aptitude for some of the Romani’s more crafty trades, but she learned quickly their arts in magical charm-shaping. Before long, she was an indispensable aide to the clan chief despite her still young age.

However, Shirudo, was not content to sit and quietly take the abuse, he raged and fought tooth and nail every step of the way. Becoming an angry, over-protective persona.
Hopping from city to city, they eventually made their way to Bogota — right on the eve of Aztlan’s declaration of war. Bogota was eventually outrun by Aztlaner forces. The Bogota outskirts, where Sansuri’s clan was encamped, turned into a world of infernal carnage. Those who survived found their homes destroyed and their lives in peril, becoming one of the thousands fleeing the slaughter. Amidst the tsunami of refugees, Sansuri’s clan struggled in vain to stay together. By the end of the first week, Sansuri found herself alone in a desperate crowd…

A second persona was developed during this time as well. Though few realized it at the time. She calls herself Mae, same as the original, but she is more childish. Childish in anger and vindictive and *cruel*. Child-Mae is not content to just sit in silence. When she comes to the fore... it's best to take three steps away. At the very least.
Sansuri was one of the fortunate ones who managed to endure the arduous trail to Ecuador — many others have perished on the way. Upon reaching Quito, she spent weeks trying to locate her lost clansmen. Alas, the torrent of migrants overwhelmed the infrastructures and there were no means of keeping track of any individual. Hopelessly following the faintest astral signals she could pick up, she continued her journey southward, through Peru, Bolivia, and finally into Chile, where she finally lost the scent.

Years later (due to memory shenanigans from unremembered memories, 'A' is not certain how long. Much of her life until now is... muddied) a Runner team, sent in to do/steal who-knows-what, stumbled across her and rescued her. Perhaps out of some sort of kindness towards a half-starved child; perhaps hoping for a larger payday. Due to the treatment she received at the time (not necessarily cruel, but there was no soft hand of comfort), or perhaps due to other, personal, reasons, Mae does not remember much, only that she was handed off to a man she would come to know as "Kojima."
Forlorn and exhausted, Sansuri gave up her search and tried to recuperate in Santiago. Through the coyotes she’d met on the road, she easily found patrons who appreciated her enchanted works. She gradually settled into the life of a talismonger, peddling her magical wares to earn a subsistence. Numbing herself against despair, she allowed no room for reflection, focusing single-mindedly on survival — until months later when she got words of the many refugees who ended up in Seattle. Hoping against hope, Sansuri resolved to make her own leap to the Emerald City.

During the time spent with Kojima, Shirudo was mostly repressed. He came to surface only a handful of times in the next few years, though the first time, a year after their rescue, was particularly violent and nearly ended with the deaths of both Kojima and Mae.
After several months of toil, she scrounged up enough nuyens to get herself a fake SIN and a one-way ticket to Sea-Tac. Once arrived in Seattle, she roamed for days to explore the city, inevitably running into a Humanis gang on the prowl. While fleeing them, she stumbled into denizens of the Ork Underground. The orks were initially hostile toward the gruff stranger, but their attitude was quickly softened when they heard her fluent Or’zet. And when her Humanis pursuers approached, the orks closed rank around her.

Kojima taught Mae how to make use of her magic (neither Shirudo nor Mae needed much teaching), though she never came to like it or trust it fully. Kojima paid to put her through schooling through the Matrix; this she excelled at, passing classes with ease and within a year she had passed all college courses of interest to her. For years, Kojima tried his best at getting the girl more invested in her magic, or SOMETHING outside of her books and studying.
With the help of her new orkish friends, she found a corner to squat in the Underground. Her quest to find her lost family, on the other hand, seemed to come to a dead end. In the meantime, she still needed to make a living. Picking up her trade again, he met a talismonger named '''Zephyros'''. Eccentric if not mad, the retired mage took a liking to the young enchanter. He helped her find her first clients in Seattle, but was also a good supplier of arcane material — the reason why some of Sansuri’s charms look like runes these days. But more importantly, he insisted that she should forget her past and focus on exploring her future potential. Though Sansuri had no patience for his sermons, she could not deny the allure of the “shadowrunning” he spoke of…

Nothing worked.
Finally, fed up, Kojima gave her a challenge. Survive, on her own, for one year. If, at the end of the year she wished it, she could return. Of course, should she need help, he would be more than willing to lend a hand, but she would go where he chose. And he chose Seattle.

Standing under one and a half meters tall, "A" is on the short side for a human.
With her giant stature and implacable demeanour, Sansuri is often mistaken as being much older than she is. She’s usually seen wearing mismatched rags and hand-me-downs, and adorned with various tribal paraphernalia. When required by the job, she can force herself into a more “civil” get up — but only as long as strictly necessary. Not exactly uncouth, she simply has little concerns of the niceties of civilisation, be it fashion, comfort, or basic etiquette.

Her skin is pale and unmarred by lines or any sign of scars or time, and though it is hard to get a sense of her exact age, it's fairly obvious she is young; she looks no older than sixteen or seventeen.

Her straight black hair hangs down to her shoulders, typically left loose and unstyled. Her eyes are so dark to be nearly black and slanted to point at an obviously Japanese descent.
