'''Time in the Archology'''
'''The Waking Void'''

Long, tiresome, white corridors. Paperwork that never ends. Lingering feelings of dread as your reflection stares back at you against the windows looking into the sprawling abyss underneath the waves.
Beneath the ocean's impenetrable depths, where light fades into eternal night, lies a vast arcology of metal and glass. Its corridors twist and turn like a labyrinth, and within them move the Replikas—beings fashioned by Transys Neuronet. These vat-born individuals carry the weight of artificial personas, their true selves buried under layers of imposed identity.

She doesn't have any memories of her childhood, the earliest one she had was waking up under an operating table. Body having been replaced almost entirely by cybernetics, a whole set of instructions in her head already. Her name was FALKE, and she was to watch over this facility. She did so, for a long time. About 30 years of continuous, monotonous work. Being attuned so such a place was miserable for her, and the only solace she would take was in... something... lost to her now.
She awakens on a sterile slab, the scent of antiseptic thick in the air. Harsh lights glare down, reflecting off surgical instruments. Her body is a blend of flesh and machinery, a construct of cybernetic enhancements. Streams of data flood her mind as protocols activate. A dispassionate voice assigns her purpose: she is FALKE, guardian of this submerged domain. For thirty unchanging years, she roams the endless white corridors, her footsteps echoing in the silence. Paperwork accumulates relentlessly; surveillance screens display scenes that hold no meaning. Beyond the glass walls, the abyss presses in, a darkness that mirrors the emptiness within her. Yet, beneath the surface of her programmed existence, something stirs.

Past generic knowledge, the rest falls away after a certain point.
Fragmented images haunt her—a woman with hair like fresh snow and eyes of deep amethyst, reaching out with a mechanical arm. A feeling stirs within her, a connection that defies the cold logic of her design. It is as though another life presses against the confines of her imposed identity, seeking release.

'''Past the Breach'''
'''Descent into Anomaly'''

There was a simple problem in the labs. Of which she went to investigate. Alone, given that it seemed to be only a minor issue. Making her way down into the facility, the elevator humming quietly as she descended into the depths of the world, things began to change. Whether illusions, tricks of the mind, or something else, as the doors opened, there wasn't any turning back. Looking into the maw of the abyss, seeing things she could never unsee, she simply returned. Memories differing, things changing as she drifts into a longer and longer sleep.
An unexpected alert breaks the monotony—a minor malfunction reported in the lower laboratories. Protocol dictates that she descends alone to investigate. The elevator's journey downward feels endless; lights flicker, casting unsettling shadows. Unseen forces seem to whisper at the edge of her perception. When the doors slide open, she is met with the impossible—a tear in reality itself, throbbing with a light that defies description. The air vibrates with unfamiliar energies, and her mind reels under the influx of memories that are not her own. She glimpses a ship drifting among distant stars—a vessel she inexplicably recognizes. The facade of her implanted persona begins to crumble, and the boundaries of her self start to blur.

She dreams of a woman with white hair, violet purple eyes, and a prosthetic arm. She reaches out, a single repeating code repeating over... and over... and over again... A familiarity, alien to herself sprung from something set deep within her. She knows this person, loves her even. They had a life together... two people doomed by the system finding something for themselves amongst the stars... but... that is not where she is now.
Unaware, she has stumbled upon a bridge to a failed expedition, drawn to a place that joins the depths of the ocean to the void of space. Knowledge floods into her mind, feeings she does not understand. Seeing the two tragedies born of human overreach. Reeling as she feels the encroaching doom.

'''A New Perspective'''
'''Shattered Realities'''

Memories of who she was before FALKE, before the monotony, the misery had set into her mind. A dissonance between who she is and who she was clashing in her psyche when she would be jolted awake by the sound of alarms, people tearing one another apart as she ran for the exit. Looking down, streaks of white hair would pass by her, something about her having irrevocably changed since the last time she was awake. A woman comes to join her as they try to escape. Though only one would be so lucky.
Chaos erupts as Cognitive Fragmentation Disorder spreads uncontrollably. The Replikas convulse under the strain of conflicting identities, their artificial masks slipping away to reveal the confusion beneath. The arcology descends into pandemonium—alarms wail, machinery malfunctions, and colleagues become threats. Amidst the turmoil, she encounters the woman from her visions—Elara, her name a whisper on forgotten lips. White hair frames eyes that seem to hold entire worlds, a prosthetic hand extended toward her. Elara resists the corruption, her technomantic abilities intertwined with the failing systems. Together, they navigate the collapsing structure, their memories weaving together like threads in a frayed tapestry. As they strive for escape, a monstrosity spawned from the rift confronts them—a grotesque fusion of flesh and twisted technology. Elara is ensnared, her form slipping away as she reaches out. Ariane grasps her mechanical hand, desperate to hold on, but the connection is severed. Elara is pulled into the abyss, her final gaze filled with unspoken emotion.

Down to the wire, doomed by the narrative, a monad clawing at her body as she tries to pull her wife through the top hatch of the building. One pull one way, one pull the other, and a breaking point is found. Her arm snaps from it's connection to her torso. Torn cybernetics and blood trailing as her lover's hand does the same. Left on the roof with a disconnected prosthetic arm, and bleeding out slowly, she flees the scene in a pod.
Clutching the lifeless prosthetic, she flees alone, her mind a storm of clashing identities, each vying for control.

===What Actually Happened===
==='''What Actually Happened'''===
There was once a woman down in a Transys Neuronet archology. This archology was working in 2 main areas; draconic cybernetics, and nanites. She had been born into a vat under the waves, and raised to be a recipient of some experimental nanites. This did not work out though, as when the CFD began to rip across the facility and she was overwritten by it she didn't quite recover. Her memories blended with the CFD and a technomancer that was boosting the signal, a FALKE unit, someone born in a VAT who was blessed with the resonance.

Now her memories are 3 fold. Primarily having the mannerisms and memories of the FALKE unit, but with her real memories long gone and only the memories of her wife's shared memories of the two of them to go off of she struggles to remember the life the two lived together.

In a time shrouded by corporate secrecy, she was Ariane being crafted not by nature but by design, intended for a purpose hidden from the world. Alongside Elara, whose spirit danced within the digital realms, she embarked on a journey among the stars. Their mission was the culmination of ambition, a reach for the unattainable. But the cosmos does not bend to human will.

- Magpie's wife isn't dead, but may as well be. She is a technomancer, heavily injured beneath the waves that is battling CFD. She's grown rather powerful, and the facility's nature boosts her output rather substantially.
Catastrophe struck when an anomaly consumed their vessel, silencing the original Magpie—Ariane's chosen name—and scattering the crew across dimensions unknown. Transys Neuronet, unwilling to accept failure, devised a cruel plan. Through Cognitive Fragmentation Disorder and implanted memories, they resurrected the fallen as Replikas within the ocean's depths, their bodies recreated but their souls lost. The rift she discovered is a scar left by that doomed voyage. Magpie's latent abilities as an Elder God mage linked the remnants of the ship with the arcology, forging a conduit of nightmares. Two disasters became intertwined, a fusion of despair.

- Magpie is named after the signal's namesake. CFD was being researched to create vat people that can have their personalities be overwritten to be useful. This was pretty much used exclusively on the ones that turned out to be magical or resonant.

Character Information

Summary

A woman who lived most of her life in an arcology that submerged under the waves after the CFD outbreak when NovaTech lost most of their resources. Having resisted the effects of CFD, and been purged of the nanites, she now strives to fulfill her promise that she made to her late wife.

With nothing to remember her by but her wife's old prosthetic arm, she runs to keep NovaTech from reclaiming her before she can remember what the promise she made was.

Goals

- Remember Her Promise

- Investigate the loss of her old memories

- Evade NovaTech's recapture

Background

What She Remembers

The Waking Void

Beneath the ocean's impenetrable depths, where light fades into eternal night, lies a vast arcology of metal and glass. Its corridors twist and turn like a labyrinth, and within them move the Replikas—beings fashioned by Transys Neuronet. These vat-born individuals carry the weight of artificial personas, their true selves buried under layers of imposed identity.

Fragmented images haunt her—a woman with hair like fresh snow and eyes of deep amethyst, reaching out with a mechanical arm. A feeling stirs within her, a connection that defies the cold logic of her design. It is as though another life presses against the confines of her imposed identity, seeking release.

Descent into Anomaly

Shattered Realities

Clutching the lifeless prosthetic, she flees alone, her mind a storm of clashing identities, each vying for control.

What Actually Happened

The Truth

In a time shrouded by corporate secrecy, she was Ariane being crafted not by nature but by design, intended for a purpose hidden from the world. Alongside Elara, whose spirit danced within the digital realms, she embarked on a journey among the stars. Their mission was the culmination of ambition, a reach for the unattainable. But the cosmos does not bend to human will.

The Struggle

Within her, the imposed identity of FALKE battles against the suppressed truth of Ariane. Visions of Elara are both a comfort and a torment—a reminder of a love that transcends the boundaries of her artificial existence. Elara, caught between life and oblivion, fights within the machine's ghost, her essence resisting the consuming corruption. Magpie, a name echoing from the depths of her true self, seeks to understand the powers stirring within her. She hopes to bridge the gap between worlds, to reclaim what was lost, to heal the fractures threatening to destroy her completely.

Living In Ignorance and Hope

Embracing the hidden corners of society, she becomes a seeker of forbidden knowledge. The underworld, with its secrets and dangers, becomes her path. Each discovery sheds light on her past yet pulls her deeper into uncertainty.

Clarifications:

- Replikas: Vat-grown individuals implanted with artificial personalities to control high-value assets like technomancers and mages. Replikas are essential to the corporation's operations, their true selves suppressed to ensure obedience.

- Elara: Magpie's wife, a white-haired technomancer resisting CFD. Trapped within the facility's systems, she uses her amplified abilities to fight the corruption, her physical body deteriorating but her spirit unbroken.

- Failed Space Expedition: Magpie (Ariane) and Elara were part of a mission that ended disastrously. The ship's encounter with an anomaly led to the death of the original Magpie and the stranding of the mission's vessel within the rift.

- Planar Rift: A tear in reality connecting the sunken arcology and the derelict spaceship. Magpie's inadvertent use of eldritch magic strengthened this link, intertwining their fates.

- Original Magpie: The original Ariane is dead, lost during the space expedition. The current Magpie is a vat-grown Replika with implanted memories, her true identity a complex amalgamation of imposed persona and buried memories.

- FALKE: A separate Replika. FALKE remains in the arcology, infected with the outbreak and remaining within the place.
