Summary
The death of a friend, and the mystery behind it, can drive anyone to rage and hatred. Emotions boil over, insults are spewed, and at some point bullets fly. So it was today.
Background
After an incident left the Shadowhaven down one member - Asura - and the subsequent questions that followed her apparent demise went unanswered, several people were left in anguish. Despite her roughness and blunt attitude, her violence and rudeness at times, Asura was a friend to many. Many were shocked when they heard the news. Some started initial searches, others mourned, others still harassed the members of the party that went into...wherever the hell hole Asura died down with her.
One such member of the final group was Fennec, in disbelief that someone she could finally be honest with who was essentially a walking tank would just fall like that. Given the sketchy nature of the job and the members involved, she was not satisfied with simply sitting back and letting bygones be bygones. And so, she took to contacting Intercession to find some means to learn the information. Talking, then threatening his comrade Lace Monitor saying she would kidnap her for the information, a mass of insults thrown his way. And Intercession, under orders not to share by his handlers and the higher-ranking members of MCT who ordered the original job, barely gave Fennec anything, much less anything that was actually tangible.
This led to...escalations. Insults became more severe, more scathing. And eventually, an address was thrown out.
This was never going to end well.
The Meet
There were preparations that needed to be made before the two of them could meet and try to kill each other. Intercession needed a justification to go shoot a fox streamer, and Fennec needed to ensure her heated insults didn't lead to actual serious issues.
Fennec resorted to an emergency call to Colonel Berger with zero explanation as backup. It would cost her a lot, but it'd at least ensure that should something go wrong she could avoid severe consequences beyond bodily harm. She also ensured she had a getaway vehicle at the location.
Intercession managed to swing an angle with his handler, Ramon Stokes-Young. Rather than just killing Fennec (like he wanted), he would disable and capture her for experimentation. They always needed fresh subjects, and one with a wealth of knowledge and experience would be quite useful.
And, on a personal mission of his own...Intercession had one minor mistake to correct: Khranitel, poor little nun, had only known heartbreak since the news of Asura's disappearance. The cyborg couldn't let the entire situation be leaked but...she deserved to see more of what happened. She deserved the understanding that...Asura was gone. There was nothing they could do.
He stowed a small data chip with edited and censored footage onto a data chip, ready to sneak it across to Fennec should he fail to apprehend her. She needed some kind of answer to her question, however meager.
The Plan
The Colonel's men were in position. Intercession was ready with a small team and a driving agent from Ramon to get him to the location quickly. Fennec wanted to kill Intercession on the spot. Intercession had to hold back his own desire to gun her down to either capture her or get this message delivered.
They met in an abandoned industrial warehouse, abandoned machines left scattered about the place as they stood at opposite ends of one another in parallel entrances to the place. Fennec was surprised he actually showed up, but clearly wasn't happy. She gave him one more chance to back away and tell her what she wanted to know. Intercession simply readied his mounted shotgun. And Fennec answered by leveling her laser pistol at him.
Showtime.
The Run
Fennec took the first shot, landing a beam of light dead on to Intercession's forehead. Fennec did not know that Intercession was a cyborg, so when the very impressive shot hit his head and did nothing to the twink, she was much more worried than she was to begin with. A wide-choked barrage of flechette rounds struck Fennec right after, mostly ineffective against the full body armor she wore. Seeing as her pistol was basically ineffective, Fennec switched to her monowhip and tried to cut her foe to shreds as Intercession, in pure anger, tried to sock her with his bare fist. They traded blows, with Fennec deftly dodging and slicing at the shell but not managing effective damage and Intercession struggling to land a blow until a final, decisive strike landed on the technomancer.
She was outmatched.
And Intercession broke her arm as he tossed her over his shoulder onto the warehouse floor.
As Berger's men began pouring in, appearing out of nowhere and preparing to force Intercession to retreat, the cyborg slips a data-chip onto Fennec's person.
And then he absconds and lets Berger's men collect.
Aftermath
Fennec awoke some days later under the care and debt of Colonel Berger. They were content enough to let her remain as she recovered, even if her arm was lost. After some time gathering herself and realizing where she was, she felt something in her pocket, and discovered the datachip. Inside was an encrypted file and an unencrypted file that said it was to be delivered to Khranitel and not opened otherwise.
Fennec obviously broke the encryption and took a look ; She managed to piece together Asura's final moments on the 5th floor of the black site. She saw the team, the device, the face of the cyberzombie who did her in, and figured...she was somewhere else to perish.
She was left to decide whether to play delivery girl or not in the infirmary.
Intercession, meanwhile, had a grilling from his handler. It was tense, but nothing conclusive could be gleamed. Still, that was a mission failed, and suspicions arising. Nothing serious...yet at least.
