Background

The Draco Foundation has lost a ship - the Lindsey Marie, a research vessel that was sent into the Antarctic Circle in order to gather intelligence on operations in the area. Moira Webster reaches out through a variety of contacts to put the team together under very, very, thin details - with the ultimate goal of recovering the crew and an 'artifact of interest' if possible.

The Meet

The team meets at Matchsticks going over the job details with Moira. After accepting the terms of the payment, she explains that the job is to discover what has become of the Lindsey Marie's crew and, if possible, to locate an 'artifact of interest' that is within the region. She informs the team up front about the dangers of the ship's on alert onboard security systems and host data vault. She also indicates that there is a mana storm brewing in the area which means they need to be quick about getting in and out before the storm makes transit nearly impossible.

The pay is great - 100k up front, 100k on the back end, and some incidentals. Further, each of the runners gets to name their price for the successful return of the artifact of interest:

Bleach: Extensive payment towards a forever home in Downtown. Geodesic: Unknown to the team, Geo makes an arrangement to get Oliver up for life. Delphi: Delphi arranges delta clinic access and high level electronics and, unknown to the others, a high level Draco contact. Doggie Bag: Delta clinic access and a truck full of money.

    • Wrestles with her anxiety and does a Tarot card reading: the tower, the devil, the ten of swords.
    • Delphi sees the Marie get assaulted by surprise, and shadowy creatures feeding on them, and then the Southern Cross constellation opening like a doorway to heaven.
  • Geodesic
    • Doubts her ability to succeed at this without dying and leaving Oliver alone. Concerns about Mafia involvement with Bleach
    • Matrix Search: Learns about Mana Storms and how bad they can be, strange effects, and the danger of unpredictable spirits.
  • Bleach:
    • Dives into solid snake-esque prep, gear checks, armor, and the like
    • Settles into a solid feeling of her own competence and ability to be successful.
  • Doggie Bag:
    • Settles into a quiet reservation given how bad the mana storm is going to be for him. He more or less makes a set of final arrangements for himself.

Travel to Antarctica

Landing at the Lindsey Marie: Sunday, August 9th

• The team manages to make their landing on the nearby island to the Lindsey Marie, getting their camp set up and their 'scuttlebug' delivered, the modified Chinook RV.
  • They come to realize that there is a distant pack of antarctic hounds in the area and that the Lindsey Marie is beginning to tilt. Further, that they are in the outer bands of the mana storm and that while it should be days until the storms hit them, it is entirely possible that the storm will act unpredictably.
• The team makes it to the ship discovering that it has numerous markings of small arms fire, small explosions, and the like. They are relatively sure the boat is empty, though they can hear the engines still running - and an unearthly keening wail....
