Character Information

Summary

Anti-corp musician who wants to change the system. Corporations shouldn't have the power, people should. Probably through governments and meaningful representation.

Goals

  • Hurt the AAAs.
  • Put together a band.
  • Release an album.
  • Political Activism.

Background

Mekuz grew up in the OU and Puyallup, moving with his parents as they found it necessary. His homelife was nice and he has memories of singing while the family cooked together.

When his father died it just kind of seemed expected. He worked a dead end job at the loading docks, but unbeknownst to his family had taken a few risk with low level runner work. Not everybody survives and so when he didn't, it was attributed to gang activity. Life was a little less after that, but his mother soldiered on, working as a nurse and taking care of Mekuz. Until one day she didn't come home. Again, it just seemed expected. Orks and Trolls just died, like his mom and dad had.

This left him alone and as a teen he joined the cutters. Mekuz was always underpowered for an Ork, but he made up for that in spirit and entertainment value. The gang seemed like a good way to make money, but of course that never really happened. His social skills brought him attention, which amounted to caution from anybody in a position over him. They allowed him to be on the front lines any chance they got, which amounted to several wounds and eventually a mass of used cyberlimbs. It was better than being debilitated and about all he could afford with the meager scraps gang work earned him. During his recovery periods he would sing or play guitar and write songs. This earned him the mocking name Tennessee Funk, which stuck.

Eventually he realized the gang was costing him more than money. His body was broken, and he had no idea what a good meal was. He started to distance himself from the outfit. The fights weren't his fights, the violence had no purpose aside from money and the whole thing was little better than a corp.

To make ends meet and start to pay off debts, he took up low level day work unloading trucks at Stuffer Shack, Taco Temple, Kong-Walmart, shipping yards and other places where one picks things up and moves them manually. Obviously it wasn't glamorous. But it was money. He moved into a dingy apartment and found himself making friends with his hall neighbor. Crane had worked jobs like him his whole life and it had slowly killed him. He thoroughly and rightfully blamed the corps and their lack of oversight for his condition and the state of the world. Many nights Crane and Mekuz would sit on the steps or in one of their apartments talking polotics, the world, corps and everything in between. It felt like an education. When Crane disappeared, it was easy to see how he might have died and his body disposed of as any other waste.

All of Crane's money found it's way onto credsticks that Mekuz found in his apartment along with a note. 'Fix yourself up kid. Play your music and fight the fight.'

So he got himself fixed up and started making contacts. Working the shadows and the fretboard.

Contact blurbs:

  • He's gotten in good with Alessa P. He may not be a straight up punker, but he's got some chops and he's got the punk attitude.
  • Dr. Henry Wallace has absorbed all of the money that Crane left him. But the ware is preem.
  • Jewels isn't a horrible guy. Maybe a bit off, but he tries to be nice. A contact from the days with the Cutters.
  • A chance meeting with Dietrich-Friedrich Bargle netted a good conversation a lot of drinking and a commcode. Merkuz kind of hates the band, it seems like a waste of talent and fame, but also it's so fun. And Dietrich-Friedrich is really nice.

Things Mekuz doesn't know:

  • He is not an Ork, but an elf with phenotypic adjustment.
  • He was adopted.
  • Both of his parents were involved in running in some way.
