Background

Carver grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, but he kept his head and heart to escape the Seattle ghetto to find a better life. Supplements his day job income by ripping off tourists to Seattle, but never taking too much to piss off the local cops His father was an alcoholic and was abusive to his mom Doris, little brother Michael, and himself. One day, his father Charlie Bain, got so drunk that he beat up and nearly killed their mother. During that incident, he grabbed his dad's Colt M23. He just wanted to scare his dad thinking that he wouldn't actually shoot, but his dad startled him. He shot his dad in the chest, killing his son of a bitch father and protecting his mother. The investigating detective, Seamus O'Reilly, ruled it has justifiable homicide. The seasoned detective starting looking after the two young boys eventually becoming a better replacement for their dead father. Seamus looks the other way with Carver's infrequent illegal actions always advising him to never do anything too stupid. Seamus knows that Carver has done some illegal stuff on the Matrix, but has never reported his activities as Seamus sometimes uses his skills an unofficial resource to find the real bad guys like serial killers and pedophiles.
