In Character Information

A small outbreak of HMHVV III infected in a research lab in Plano left Luke's husband, Jackson, with a week of painful transformation and cyberware rejection, and a lifetime of sneaking scraps in a world that would rather see him dead.

That it took 2 years to be chased out of Texas came as a surprise. If pressed, neither could admit if it was shorter or longer than they expected, but the BOBs had been prepared long in advance. Correspondence classes finished Luke's Master's degree as they slunk from sprawl to sprawl northward. Eventually, the money - what there was of it - ran out. Employment opportunities for a philosophy teacher have been waning since Plato, and no one wants to hire a ghoul that needs expensive 'ware as a security spider.

Five years since Jackson was infected, barely surviving, moving through half of the continent, a job opened up. With opportunity for tenure. The CAS SINs were enough to get a work visa and a job, but Jackson can't get his meat stipend and a teacher's pay alone can't keep them in unused fingers and noses.
