Summary
Once more, Quinn Connoway decides to get up to some sketchy business as Mr. Johnson. Today - a family member has some suspicious business going on, and he wants to know what they're up to.
Background
The Finnigans have a couple of rules, and one of them is pretty basic for any crime family - you do business, the family gets its cut. So if someone's been doing something on the side, that's bad news - and if someone's not paying dues on what they do on the side, that's worse. So if Mickey's really doing something on the side, that's something Quinn can hold over the guy.
The Meet
Mr. Johnson meets the runners in a midscale Italian restaurant - presumably to laugh about the Italians doing that - and goes over the expectations with each of them. Don't whack any of our guys, they might just be following orders. Collect evidence. Don't destroy the place, we're storing stuff we want to keep around there.
In Johnson's ideal world, he gets handed video footage of Mickey handling illicit goods that the family wants a cut of, and he's not in a rush about it.
The Plan
The team initially plans to simply do some scouting - check the place on the Matrix and Astral, then maybe do an entry if that is warranted. They find quickly that there's little security on the astral and little on the matrix side as well, then things go slightly sideways.
The Run
A pair of icons noted as fans by the roof of the warehouse are proven to be wrapped when - upon entering via fly-spy - Null Stack notices there's no real fans present. The pair of fans are revealed to be Fly-Spies themselves, and immediately a matrix battle ensues. His deck spins up, a pair of data spikes are sent spinning through the matrix towards his foe and only after getting marked by his opponent does Null Stack manage to data spike them into submission. The fly spies go still, the device is torched, and the rigger is now an unknown.
Potential overwatch eliminated, Nines and Draven enter the building on foot with Nullstack providing overwatch, quickly dispatching the pair of guards. Dispatching, then over-dispatching as it turns out - when the dart from Null's flyspy strikes a vein, it's only a quick trauma patch use that saves the man's life.
Johnson's got his evidence minutes after, but the question remains - where'd the rigger that Nullstack nailed go? After calling up a friend and getting some help with a name and a search, the team gets a picture - and from there, Draven calls upon a spirit to locate the enemy. He's dead, of course.
Aftermath
In the aftermath, the party not only completed their objective of getting ahold of evidence - they were given part of it as a reward to fence off, and they've earned Mr. Johnson a good deal of political credit in doing so.
Quinn Connoway lives to play fast and loose another day.
