Hi! Welcome to my table. To ensure we all go into this with the right expectations and preferably come out with many lipstick marks and story-worthy scars, this page will go into my vibe as a GM and how I run my table.
First off...
Table Rules
Multi-Part Runs
My schedule is consistent week-over-week, which means the best times for me to run continuation sessions are “the same time next week”. If a run is scheduled to go upwards of six hours or looks like it'll take a lot of planning, please take a moment to think about whether or not you could make the same time next week (and if not, what the rest of your week looks like). I'll try to plan for part 2's if I think it'll happen, but just... keep it in the back of your mind, yeah?
Content
Please inform me of any line and veils you may have. Lines are things that cannot appear on the table. Veils are things that can occur, but must be devoid of details. A veil of “domestic abuse” could mean that an NPC may suffer from it, but it will never happen onscreen and the most detailed description relating to it would be “this person experiences domestic abuse.” A line of “domestic abuse” means it does not happen, period.
PVP
I allow PVP under the following conditions: 1: Server rules regarding PVP are regarded and followed to the letter. 2: We have time. (This is usually automatically the case, but sometimes I don’t want to schedule a part 2). Otherwise, go wild! Just err on the side of nonlethal - I don't really want to end up with corpses on my table for goofy reasons.
Miscellaneous
Miscalculated Pools: If you roll less dice than you actually had, just roll the remainder as a separate roll and mark it as a miscalculation somehow. If you roll more dice, we can just knock the last few dice off. This means that you should not sort your pools in descending order. If you do, and we need to knock off dice, I will start from the top rather than the bottom.
Seize the Initiative: You are allowed to Seize the Initiative after seeing the results of the Initiative tracker. Remember that NPCs may Seize as well; I will likely declare whether or not they do this before I set up initiative.
Spirits: Keep in mind, spirits are sapient creatures, even if their mindset is totally alien. They will not always act like perfect automata and will get testy if ordered to do things antithetical to them (like ordering a fire spirit to dive into the ocean).
Called Shot (Engine Block): This one doesn't exist on my table because it is way too strong. Please just use literally any other vehicle called shot.
Style Guide
I play Shadowrun on the side of the players. I am generally rooting for your success, and while I do like to show off my cool fancy Crime Guys, I'm perfectly fine with them getting iced for the crime of Being Mean. I will largely be alright with PCs declining jobs at the meet, and encourage finding your own ways to get paid if you don't like what the J is trying to bribe you into doing. Just remember that you may take rep hits if you're discovered, and your team may not place value on morals over money.
I view Shadowrun as a very different setting to the modern world. It's a gnarly corporate dystopia, but it's also fucking clown world with all the Astral shenanigans happening on a daily basis. While I do prefer to work with the skeezier, darker side of the setting, I also think that it's so far removed from the modern world that realism... kind of doesn't apply anymore. If something makes sense narratively and isn't blatantly, setting-smashingly ridiculous, it's probably kosher on my table. So, uh... just don't go blowing up Chinese restaurants for fun. Because KE exists, and terrorism is generally frowned upon (read: cured via high explosives). I will enforce consequences for rambunctiousness. I don't intend to kill or otherwise render PCs unusable, but I will very much Enhance Your Story Against Your Will if the events of the run deem it so. If you get captured by OPFOR after a run goes sour, you'll most likely get released afterwards with a slap on the wrist, a kink bomb in the skull, and a piece of paper telling you to go do a favor for them in return for not killing you. Speaking of failstates, I hate them. I think runs that end in failure are boring and painful for the work put in (on an OOC level) and will generally try my best to help ensure you walk out with *something* rather than two karma and a general feeling of uselessness. Only in very rare circumstances will so many things go wrong that the win condition is unachievable - and in those circumstances, I will probably try to work on a follow-up session to explore the outcomes a bit more and see if we can get something fun out of the rubble.
So uh, yeah! I wrote this at 11pm on a Sunday night, please forgive its rambliness, and I can't wait to see you on table so I can squeeze your blorbo like a wet towel and extract juicy trauma.
