Summary
Two runners new to the Haven are sent to deal with a hostage situation.
Background
Roughly three hours before Getaway and Mirage were involved, there was a string of kidnappings by a gang of individuals with potential ties to Yakuza, who then began calling for payment or else. The husband of one such victim called the PMC Horned Bear, asking for help. Seeing this as a good opportunity to have one of their trainees who has decided to delve into running, Mirage, dip her toes in the water, they contacted a suitable runner who was also relatively new to the shadows to serve as reinforcement. Thus, the two entered into a small cafe in Auburn to discuss details.
The Meet
Meeting Ashen Hand at the cafe, he briefed them on the details. The kidnappers are holed up in an old fast food joint within an abandoned urban area of Puyallup, stating that they would begin killing hostages if they noticed Knight Errant or anyone else approaching. The primary target to extract was a dwarf mother and two of her children, with secondary objectives to free the rest of the hostages inside and to kill the kidnappers. There were roughly five to seven, with high chance of reinforcements nearby. End time is at two a.m., at which time all the hostages would be executed.
With Mirage and Getaway formally introduced and their specialties known, they entered his roadmaster and began making their way.
The Plan
Mirage would perform sniper duty from a high up building nearby with decent line of sight on as many hostiles as possible while Getaway performed recon up close with a flyspy. After locating all hostiles and hostages, the two would work to eliminating the kidnappers as quickly and efficiently as possible to ensure the hostages' safeties. Upon ensuring an all-clear, they would then escort the civilians into Getaway's roadmaster and drive off, evading any potential reinforcements and meet up with Ashen Hand at the northern side of Puyallup, near Tacoma, for debriefing and to drop off the civilians.
The Run
Parking roughly a kilometer away, far enough to be nigh-undetectable without usage of vision magnification, Mirage used her sniper's scope to get a cursory glance over the building. Noticing it was boarded up, Getaway jacked into his flyspy and began making his way to the building for a closer look while Mirage searched for a tall building to overlook on. Once inside, Getaway used the senses of his flyspy to notice mines dotted around the location, the weaponry of the kidnappers, as well as their cyberware. There was one individual which stood out as a leader, prompting both Getaway and Mirage to agree on eliminating him first to sow discord among the remaining five hostage-takers.
Setting his flyspy to watch the individuals inside, Getaway then began piloting his roto-drone as sneakily as possible and made his way in. Once ready, he then launched a grenade directly into the face of the leader, incapacitating them instantly. Opening a door to the back with his drone's arm, he then launched another grenade, this time a flashbang, into the face of one of the goons, knocking them out as well. Unfortunately, his roto-drone was quickly shot down, and it was up to Mirage to deal with the remaining three.
Swiftly, expertly, and with great accuracy she quickly managed to shoot through the boards and even walls, using the flyspy to triangulate, killing two of the criminals with one shot each. The last one moved to make use of one of the hostages as a meat shield. Getaway began sending his roadmaster up to the old food joint as his flyspy watched over the situation. Finding that the hostage taken as cover was in fact their primary target, Mirage held for a couple seconds before taking her next shot. In this time, the kidnapper turned the corner for just a second, enough time that he managed to spot her, but it was too late. As he ducked behind the wall and hostage, a bullet was sent through the wall and through the hostage and eliminated him. With a called shot, the dwarf woman was only lightly injured and all the hostages remained alive.
Finally on scene, Getaway jacked into his drone maid and attempted to calm the distraught, now free, hostages... to no avail. An utter mess at it, Mirage attempted to pacify them as well, which only served to help minorly. After a few minutes they finally managed to convince the lot to follow Getaway and enter his roadmaster. Just in time, as reinforcements were nearly upon them. Mirage quickly ended the lives of the two unconscious kidnappers and hopped into the roadmaster as well.
Driving away, Getaway made a few quick turns down alleys and the like to lose his pursuers. After hiding in a particularly dark dead end, he was able to do so, and was now sent the coordinates of where to drop off their passengers. No longer being hunted, the drive was smooth and safe.
Aftermath
The two arrived with a roadmaster full of passengers which were let out, consoled by PMC members of Horned Bear as Ashen Hand moved to speak with the two runners. Informing them of a good job, he handed Getaway his pay and informed Mirage that hers would be back at base as well as offering a ride there. Additionally, he offered himself as a contact for Getaway, informing that he'd be in touch if they needed a good set of wheels on the road. And vice versa, if the rigger needed a keen sniper or more.
