Summary
The gang stops another group of runners from getting Saeder Krupp's newest experiment so that they can smuggle it away elsewhere.
Background
Saeder Krupp had been working on a brand-new spell formula specialized for vehicles. They'd made great strides, but unfortunately their competitors had caught wind of this. Fortunately for the megacorp, they were able to ascertain when the first wave of runners was to hit--And decided to hire runners to extract the formula themselves.
The Meet
Rogo spent the morning summoning a new spirit to inhabit his dog, only to learn it had been tasked with delivering a message on behalf of Father Midnight, giving him the details of a prospective run. Docteur Vega, while cleaning up after another successful operation, found himself being bothered by suspicious ravens...Bearing a mysterious message, from an anonymous 'fixer.' It had the details of a run, and said to give their regards to Father Uriel. Father Uriel, upon being informed of this, was incredibly incensed. Obsidian got a call from Madame Butterfly, and Alkali got a call from Optimal Squid.
The gang met the John at a cowboy bar--That is, a bar with a distinct cowboy theme to it, not necessarily a bar that just so happened to be occupied by cowboys. After being brought into a backroom, the J laid out the basics of the situation, and their desires. While the team was able to negotiate for a little extra Nuyen, they were ultimately not able to get any further relevant details out of the J.
Some research on the Matrix showed that the opposing Runner team was somewhat green, and referred to as 'Flashrunners' instead of 'Shadowrunners,' due to their seeming inability to do a job with a modicum of stealth. Further digging showed a concerning pattern of opening up locations with high explosives and exfiltrating via cannon. The team, deciding to get further details before they made a plan on how to deal with this team, was able to secure a conjugal visit with a weapons dealer who had previously worked with the team, and after obtaining the names and identities of the majority of the team, laesed him and went on their way.
The Plan
The J had already laid a lot of the groundwork for the team to extract the item; he'd pulled astral security to a minimum, the Host's Spider was informed not to use Black IC, and one of the critical patrolmen was pulled from duty. It was made for this part of things to be a milk run. The runners made a simple plan: Hack into the host, remotely control the elevator, distract the Aware receptionist, smash the barrier, and send in a spirit to grab the object.
They'd keep an eye out for the opposing run team and run interference if need be.
The Run
The first leg of the plan went swimmingly; the object was obtained with little effort!
And that's when the runners showed up. Rogo, being the only one to spot them, moved in to intercept with his van. His zombies opened the van doors and began opening fire. They ultimately didn't kill anyone, and the opposing Street Sam, Preacher, returned fire while their Rigger tried to ram. The Rigger immediately performed a hairpin turn, smoothly merging with oncoming traffic, pulled up to a curb, and leapt out of the car to run away. Preacher swan-dived through a window, landed on the hood of another car, and rode it to safety. The Mage similarly departed.
