Summary

Morgana Sassa, or The Brood Mother as she calls herself, is an insect shaman of remarkable magical prowess. Once an attendant of a collegiate university, Morgana was changed when she attempted to peer into realms forbidden, allowing a gateway for insect spirits to influence her mind. Though the pull of the insect spirits is strong, Morgana possesses remarkable willpower that keeps her from succumbing to total insanity. However, even with her willpower, the mental strain of the alien intelligences that she communes with has left the once graceful and composed mage flitting between feral and lucid. Like most insect shamans, Morgana is keen on creating a hive and bringing into the world as many insect spirits as she can. However, unlike most insect shamans, she is not slavishly devoted to their whims, and instead utilizes her remarkable willpower to be the queen of her own hive, subjugating the insects to her own whims. The truth is Morgana only seeks to help the working class citizens of the corporate world, though her ambition has been twisted by the insect's influence, her morals remain uncompromised, and to any desperate or foolish enough to seek her aid she offers it freely as her magic offers her to work miracles on flesh. Though her status as an insect shaman has earned her warranted notoriety in the Shadow Community, The Brood Mother remains a force to be reckoned with, and particularly unscrupulous fixers and criminals take the opportunity to utilize the unique abilities of her and her hive.

Background

Morgana Sassa was once a proud attendant of the University of Seattle's magical branch of education. Many would consider the girl from Tacoma an ambitious prodigy, quickly picking up the foundations of magical theory much quicker than her peers. Her life spent in Tacoma being raised in a lower-class household instilled within Morgana a drive to pull her and her family from the grips of economic burden. She saw the strain it placed upon her parents, the exhausting hours, the never-ending penny-pinching. So when Morgana manifested magical powers, the family rejoiced, seeing an opportunity to escape their class bracket. So, after years of work, the family saved enough to send Morgana to the University of Seattle where she excelled for years. This would all come to a head, however, when Morgana was researching metaplanes, searching for something she could use to write her thesis on and impress the board with in hopes of acquiring a cushy job after graduation. In her studies, she discovered the calamity that surrounded the insect spirits and the disaster that was the invasion of Chicago. Of course, she reasoned, if she could discover a groundbreaking theory on a topic so recent, she would surely astound the board that reviewed her thesis. She may even get signed on with a security corporation in a magical defense department! Unfortunately, this path would lead to Morgana's descent into madness. Morgana would spend sleepless nights scrying, assessing, and utilizing rituals to poke and prod the barrier between the physical realm and the metaplanes. She was careful, that was certain, she took every precaution to avoid any infiltration of spirits. What she did not account for was the infiltration of her own mind. The alien collective on the other side of the thin metaphysical veil would slowly warp the young prodigy's mind. Morgana would find herself more and more obsessed with the insect spirits, marveling at their power and dominance so profound they could overwhelm an entire city. The insects would use her past economic burden to nurture a festering hatred for the corporations, pushing her ever further to the edge. After Morgana went missing for a week, school faculty would open her room to find a gruesome sight; her room was overcome with an infestation of ants, several dead bodies in various states of decomposition with runes inscribed on their flesh. These victims would come to later be identified as a variety of shady individuals, criminals, and offenders. The only other thing of note left behind was her computer that contained her research and, most importantly, her thesis. Her thesis started with the usual quality of her work, but would soon devolve into a ranting manifesto, siting her grievances with the world and status quo, and marveling at the perfect harmony of insects. Now, Morgana works in secret, living in the wilds of Snohomish, slowly building up a hive of her own utilizing the bodies of prolific criminals, corrupt suits, and those sick and afflicted she talks into "ascension".

Appearance

Morgana is a tall, pale, and gaunt woman with bright, emerald green eyes that glimmer in the dark. Her hair is often long and dark as a starless night. Despite her position, she makes a fair attempt to keep herself presentable, though this isn't always the case given her manic episodes. Her hairless body is slender and thin from years of sparse eating, and she possesses many chemical burn and bite scars on her body earned from her early attempts at summoning her insects.

Clothing

Morgana wears her signature tight, form-fitting black ballistic weave clothing. The design is sleek and practical, possessing chemical-resistant properties that keep her safe from unruly minions as well as thermal dampening capabilities that aid in her evasion of the law enforcement and bounty hunters who pursue her.
