GM Style
My focus is on a good story, roleplay, and giving your characters room to present themselves and act. I like to keep OOC to a minimum so we can maintain strong immersion.
That said, I tend to run things in a Black Trenchcoat style. I don’t actively limit shadowrunners in how they approach a situation. However, there are some boundaries regarding what we play out and what will simply be stated. This includes torture, over-the-top drug and sex scenes.
Runners are Badass
Even when running Black Trenchcoat, runners are badass, and most NPCs aren’t. You want to take out the gang? Sure, any decent sam can handle them. Your rigger thinks parking his car right at the entrance of that bank is a good idea? Go ahead. Good or fun ideas are always welcome.
On the other hand, runners are not at the top of the food chain. There are some people you don’t mess with—or at least, you’d better not get caught doing so. I try to make sure you know what you’re getting into.
Picking the Team
I try to pick a team that has the skills to resolve situations in multiple playstyles. I favor characters that look fun roleplay wise and add flavor. I also prefer mundane characters because of the rarity of magic in the world. Usually, at least one magic specialist and a face will be included.
Declining the job
Don't. If you sign up, you want to join for the run.
Derailing the Run
If the group wishes for the run to develop in a different direction, I’m fine with that. But everyone needs to agree—otherwise, we’ll need to step back and talk about it.
Assumed Competence
Runners are professionals, so they know a lot about staying off the radar. That said, you can’t assume competence in skills you don’t have.
Your runner will always handle their commlink properly when it comes to their SIN, for example. However, without a point in Computers, they won’t be rebooting their commlink all the time because of marks.
