Find and kill the woman known as Heirophant.
Background
Aurora was happy once. That was long ago, when she was still a blissfully ignorant child. Her father had taken her out to hunt when she was fourteen. It was 'bonding time', the best way he knew how. Despite being rich enough to have everything handed to him on a silver platter, they did it for real, as he claimed it kept them sharp. They, or rather he, managed to bag a three-point deer. Not the highest scoring, but Aurora was nevertheless immediately smitten with the sport.
As she grew, her life became more or less dedicated to going out and hunting bigger, more dangerous, and more interesting game. Given her family's resources, that included trips to other countries, including one to Japan. Sometimes she did this of her own accord, escaping and her duties and education in order to 'live a little'.
It couldn't last. It didn't. Her parents became increasingly irate as the corporate scion they wanted failed to manifest. Was her depression an act? Was she really so disloyal as to make them look bad? The arguments were intense, and only served to accelerate the spiral.
Eventually, she just left. Her parents tried to find her, but she knew how to live off the land and slipped away. Aurora spent a year, maybe, just wandering. She made some friends with people who didn't care too muchwho she was, didn't ask about the haunted look in her eyes and the way she cried herself to sleep at night. Well, no more than she could handle. They were a gang, after a fashion, involved in low-level crimes. She spent a few years with them before slipping away. It wasn't home. It didn't replace what she'd lost, but she'd found a little bit of who she wasn't.
She was honestly just ready to die. Wolf came to her, then, as she wandered south into the jungle. He was helpful, or trying to be, but all she wanted was a purpose or release. He urged her further still, until she ran across a merc company, and then to join them. Time would tell that he'd saved her life.
The company was small, just twelve hard-bitten men and women. Aurora felt like an outsider, despite their efforts. She'd learn later, in hindsight, that she was closer to true happiness here, with them, than she had been since she was young. Of course, that's merely because people don't appreciate what they have until they lose it. The cozy campfire nights after a successful operation vanished when two of them died at once. A body-snatcher adept, as they're called, was playing with them. Someone had gotten replaced and they didn't even know it. Over the course of a week, the entire corps was whittled down, with only two people remaining.
Aurora, and as she would later come to be known, Hierophant, planned to use each other as bait. It worked, but not the way they were hoping.
On that final confrontation, after being crippled, Aurora saw a drake standing over the corpse of her last remaining friend, and vowed to kill it.
That was months ago, however. The trail came north, to Seattle, so here she is. Memento Mori. Remember death.
