Summary
Sanjuro gets duped into doing Renraku dirty work and tracking down a woman seeking Shiawase extraction. Upon figuring it out, she attempts to save the day, fails, gets stabbed by a blue samurai and falls 33 meters, paralyzing her from the waste down. She wakes up with some fancy new cyber-braces and escapes into the night.
Background
A woman within Renraku decided that she'd had enough of their nonsense and wanted out. She coordinated a rescue effort from Shiawase, who sent a two-man bodyguard team to extract her and bring her safely to Prince George, Canada.
The Meet
Sanjuro was having a slow day when she spotted a poster in the Ramen Shop she was in. The poster detailed a promising job oppurtunity with the line: Samurai Needed: Woman In Danger, Must Be Strong and Able to Fight Ninjas. It gave a commcode number which Sanjuro instantly called. She found a nerdy voice on the other end who, instantly wowed by Sanjuro's samurai-ness, arranged a meet a nooodle stand to go over further details.
Sanjuro showed up and met the J, a small college student with a backpack decorated in countless anime stickers and enormous glasses. The two got noodles and, after swapping some philosophical insights, the J went over the job. Her roommate had gone missing in Prince George, a town famous for its B-tier Samurai vs Ninja flicks with an orange-mask wearing protagonist. The J suspected NINJAs. She requested Sanjuro take a crappy, hashed-together and homemade orange Samurai mask and head on over to Prince George to rescue the roommate. Sanjuro, of course, agreed. Those evil ninjas wouldn't know what hit 'em!
The Plan
Get on train to Prince George
Locate target
Rescue her from Ninjas
Profit
The Run
As Sanjuro boarded a train to Prince George and got settled in, she spotted a suspicious person milling about, guarding a woman that looked a lot like the woman she was sent to rescue. Her captor was a tall man in all black, similar in many ways to ... a NINJA. Sanjuro sneakily followed him through the train to a storage car.
Where he spotted her.
The man revealed himself as a Nocturna swordsman. In Japanese, he told her she would go no further and would never find the girl. Sanjuro started to grab her knife, eager for a fight, then politely asked the man to wait while she ran back to her luggage to get her Nodachi so they could have a real fight. The Nocturna, though a little confused, agreed and Sanjuro jogged back, grabbed her Nodachi and returned. She found the traincar door shut. The nocturna swordsman had gone to the roof. Sanjuro, absolutely jazzed at the idea of a fight on a moving train, climbed on up.
The two fighters faced off. The Nocturna spun his twin blades as Sanjuro drew her enormous, gun-metal black Nodachi. The two stared each other down on the roof of the speeding train. The snow pelted down hard, melting against their skin as the train kept its stalwart path. Neither fighter broke concentration. A frigid standoff on the speeding train.
Nocturna Ninja struck first. With inhuman speed and agilty, his blades whirled downward in a terrifying arc ...
Just as Sanjuro spun the Nodachi around into a riposte.
The darkened Nodachi blade sunk through flesh and armor. In a single strike, Sanjuro had knocked out her opponent. As his swords fell into the abyss below and his body teetered at the brink, Sanjuro grabbed him and threw him over her shoulder. Killing people is bad.
She stuffed him into a crate of "Prince George is King" shirts and waited while the train pulled into the station. When it did, Sanjuro tossed him over her shoulder and ran off into the darkness, escaping like a ghost in the night.
And was spotted by security.
She managed to lose the troll-hunt and buy herself a snowglobe and a "Prince George is King" shirt before escaping further into the woods to lay low. She found a nice abandoned hunting lodge and got herself a nice, restful night of sleep. When she awoke, Nocturna Ninja was grilling through the snacks she had brought along. Though still injured and a little bit miffed about getting defeated, the two managed to get along. Sanjuro promised to give the man one of her back-up swords if he told her what was going on. He obliged and informed her of his Shiawase bodyguarding gig and his job bringing the girl out of Renraku. Sanjuro was a little confused and made him promise to bring her to his bodyguardee so they could talk. The Nocturna, who's options were limited to bleeding out in the snow or lose another swordfight, reluctantly agreed.
The new best friends tracked their way up to an old ski-pass and met the Bodyguardee and her second bodyguard, a gnomish FLR with a monowhip. There, Sanjuro finally got the full story and realized she'd been scammed and duped and even a little bit deceived by Renraku. Wanting to set things right, Sanjuro asked to help but was declined.
That was when the helicopter showed up.
Cresting the treeline was a jet-black helicopter with familiar red logo on its side. Sanjuro looked to her bag where the shitty orange mask that was absolutely a tracker was. Now a little bit pissed off, she tossed it to the side and sprinted down the mountain to rescue her target by aiding the Ninjas. Well, there actually weren't any ninjas but that didn't matter. The copter laid down fire in the trees as Sanjuro tooks several shots with her bow, causing serious damage to the copter, before yeeting the monowhip gnome up towards the copter for a deadly finishing blow. The gnome, unfortunately, missed and plummetted down the mountain.
Sanjuro realized she needed to do something desperate and she needed to do it FAST. With great speed, she tossed her bow to the side and clambered up a nearby tree, getting well over 40 feet up. Then, with a great leap, she drew her Nodachi mid-air and swung towards the chopper in a flying-samurai-death-strike of destruction.
It was not to be.
The door of the helicopter opened. What stood within could only be described as a perfected killing machine. Every inch of him was chrome, his arms and skull and torso and eyes all had been replaced with the hightest grade ware on the market. What little meat remained was no doubt enhanced with biotech treatments. The perfected killing machine, in one smooth motion, drew his Blue Samurai Katana and impaled Sanjuro through the spine. She fell those 35 meters straight down. The last thing she saw before sleep took her was that metal man grabbed her target, the one she swore to protect, and pulling his katana out of Sanjuro chest.
Sanjuro woke up in the hospital after a week of touch and go. Shiawase had decided she was a potential asset and cured her paralysis with a set of cutting-edge cyber-braces to let her walk. Through a series of daring escapades (and her new bodyguard friends cutting the cameras in exchange for a data-filled laptop), Sanjuro began her escape. Along the way, she met Brodie J.R. who ran past his parents completely naked, jokerified a hospital guard and defeated Delphi's racist clone before finding her way to safety.
Aftermath
Sanjuro and the 2 (now former) bodyguard decided it was up to them to rescue this lady. With a lack of info to go on and a monumental task in front of them, they deposited Sanjuro back in Seattle to learn to live with her new, pseudo-paralyzed situation.

Okay well, I kinda messed that one up. In a lot of ways.
I think I need to change some things, y'know? Like, I've just been going at this whole running thing and expecting everything to turn out okay. I'm really strong and I can get shot like 100 times and keep moving. I know I've taken countless bullets for my teammates. But this? I got reckless and I made a mistake and my person got captured. I failed. And I failed because I wasn't thinking.
I'm really paying the price for it. As I type this, I can't feel my legs. I got wires running through them and steel running through my bones and armored plates. I can feel those. But I can't feel my legs. I can move faster than before and run farther and jump higher. It even feels like my sword stuff has gotten better, like it adds just a little bit of extra push. But I can't feel my legs. And I'm scared.
Can't focus on that though. I can't keep doing things the way I was doing them. And it's more than just training and getting stronger and that stuff. I need to think about this stuff. I can't be reckless like before, I can't make the same mistakes!
I know I messed up and it's really bad. But it's worse for the lady I was supposed to protect. I can't allow my own dumb mistakes to endanger others.
There are worse things in the world than messed up legs.
