Background

Working for Renraku CorpSec as an oni was never going to be a glamorous life, but Kumakiri Hisae planned to make it work. Much to the shame of her corporate family, she goblinized into an oni as a young teen and suddenly, life was more difficult not just for her but the rest of her family: whispered questions about her mother's faithfulness, suddenly drastically altered expectations, and a home life that was suddenly much colder. Futilely determined to prove herself not to be a burden and disappointment, Hisae got herself signed on with a Renraku security subsidiary, intending to use it as a springboard to a more prestigious bodyguard position only to discover that a lot of the people she was being ordered to beat down happened to look a lot like her. A year into her employment, a glitch resulted in her corporate SIN vanishing without a trace. Hisae shrugged her shoulders and was just about to start the process of getting the situation fixed when she stopped and had an epiphany.

She didn't have to do this.

No, now that she thought about it, she really didn't want to. Her third eye had opened and she had Awakened, another unexpected change in the trajectory of her life.

Kumakiri Hisae walked away from her old life, and several months later, Onigiri stumbled her way ashore in Seattle. Life might not be much kinder here, but it was still a fresh start.

Hisae fancies herself a protector of the innocent and downtrodden—or at the very least, not a killer of them. Gangers, corporate security... Hisae doesn't have a problem putting down most of the sorts of people who will be pointing guns her way, but she will go out of her way to avoid collateral damage.
