Summary
A Laesa syndicate watercraft had been reported 25 nautical miles off the coast of Seattle and an unscrupulous talismonger sent a runner team out to loot it. (in the middle of a manastorm)
Background
The Leasa Syndicate ran afoul of a large spirit of beasts that manifests as a large orca traveling with pods of Orca as an astral gaurdian and sometimes possesion spirit along the western coastline in winter, helping pods migrate to the warmer southern waters.
A shedim had followed it all season lurking behind to pick off young and play with it and it refused to move after the creature when guarding its own. It was finally down to a final pod of very late season orca and was distracted when orders came from "below" to go get a powerful foci from the yacht the Pc's J had discovered and send them to rob.
The Meet
The team met up with Miss. Hattie at Tacoma style. Everyone promptly seeing through each other's masking and getting a feel. The meet was relatively inert, barring the moment when Phototaxis crit glitched and casually insulted the client, leading to a lot of the team balking at her. Ultimately no discounts were to be had and no contact was to be made long term with Miss Hattie on this run. (her pilot however..)
The Plan
The J had hired a "boat and pilot" meaning "Fogerty in the stolen undersea facility shuttle" to take the team out to investigate the drifting leasa syndicate craft. The team pretty much went over, hopped on board with some minor shopping and headed out to sea after summoning their "ride" with an underwater beacon.
The Run
It did not take long for Garuda to sus out that their pilot was a free artificial intelligence. The team was not overly concerned, more so with Garuda's strugglign with the long cylindrical tube that was the craft and the terror of being trapped below the waves for any length of times.
The ride out was relatively uneventful, all characters passing a nausea test to avoid struggling with the choppy waves.
Upon getting a naval kilometer or two out, the team realize the ambient manasphere is getting increasingly erratic and they are sailing into something weird.
Obsidian summons a water spirit who is touched by the erratic mana and after a bit of cajoling comes back to explain that they are currently inside a manastorm and headed towards the eye. Also that the spiritual profile of this area is far higher than they would have realized. With a spirit of orca nearby and incredibly powerful, as well as a dark spirit kepeping its distance.
Rather than engage with the Orca violently, the team opted to go the negotiation route. (a very good idea) Obsidian and Ryujji pulled efforts to wild summon the Spirit, which surfaced, possesing a massive orca. They got a better lay of the land from it. It was in Gaia's migration cycle and protecting a slow moving pod. But was tasked by "something stronger" to reclaim a necklace it happened to be near on the sea. It went and wrecked the yacht with its pod, but found itself in a position of being trapped between its natural duty to protect the pod and the task it had been set on. As a hopper shedim was waiting in the dark depths to claim the bodies it had created and possibly its children.
It agreed to allow the PC's to retrieve its target and when it left with its pod, to kill the Shedim, in exchange it would be on its way and not wreck their boat.
