Summary
Vito Gianelli has concerns, financial and pride related, about his nephew (and son of the Don of the Gianelli Mafia Family Don) in an upcoming intermural outrigger crew rowing competition held yearly on the northeast banks of the Outremer islands. He got help in the form of an unlikely but effective runner team to fix the race in a way that left no one in his family or the competition any wiser.
Background
Gino Gianelli is a solid oldest son to a local mafia don, smart, dedicated, understands the family business, but he just is not terribly athletic and his crew on the water and in real life hamstring him with their own delusions of grandeur. He would be perfectly happy as a rower, but his team is not going to let him do anything but take the main chair in the upcoming intermural contest. This risks making the entire team of Gianelli and affiliate young adults look like idiots, something Vito cannot allow. Don Gianelli would take the interference as a slight, based purely on family pride. Forcing Vito to reach out for freelancers.
The Meet
Vito does everything short of introducing himself by name. Inviting the team to Vincenzo's, a family style mid-upscale Italian restaurant he has a personal stake in, in the corner of a niceish strip mall near the Tacoma docks. The team is escorted to a back room typically used for banquets and events, Roc's garlic allergy playing a bit of havoc on Roc's system, and everyone takes a seat to discuss brass tacks. Vito offers a wealth of information and a very fair price, agreeing to gear rates on a variety of options and a small bonus for discretion for the team if they can pull this job off with no one at all the wiser they were there or involved.
The Plan
Roc uses high lifestyle to absorb a boat charter rental for the week rather than the group be subject to ferry trips and random lodging while they begin matrix searches and physical legwork to get information from Avery Isle. The home island of the White Shoals Yacht Club and home island of the regatta.
Dango pulls most of the teams information and addresses, as well as basic information on the White Shoals Yacht Club.
Astral investigation by spirit revealed two watchers, and three wards on the property. One on the yacht club, one on the boat house, one on the guard shack.
Two armed guards patrol in a eurocar every 15-20 minutes.
After some spy drone shenanigans and a few more matrix searches the team decide to throw a rager on Thursday night pre event, leaving most of the opposition racers hungover, drunk, mildly injured or disqualified from the run, while using the party as cover to sabotage a few boats on teams they think may be difficult.
The Run
Roc played as call to Brody J, asking Mr. Johnson if he could acquire a yacht full of party people and the appropriate chems, and throw a yachht party at the club the night before the regatta. A reluctant Brody does agree to rearrange his Thursday for a chip. Alkali preps half the team magically for their roles as Dango begins creating to micro charges at home. Looking to enlist local spiritual aid, Alkali sends a water spirit out to check the bay itself, the spirit rapidly getting consumed by a larger, assumedly free, spirit in the form of a much larger orca. "
As the party begins, Ryuuji slots a partyboy personafix, and begins dancing and hyping things up, as Roc pushes various team members to get overly intoxicated to the point of collapse. The team also goes relatively hard, between long haul, bliss and hurlg,but manages to keep it together and keep the party in high gear. At the same time, ALkali sends a water spirit into the boat house, slipping under the wards at the waterline but avoiding the free spirit currently eating other spirits in the bay, that spirit places the micro charges Dango had made on the outriggers used by teams 4 and six. In the process of providing matrix Support, Dango notices the Gianelli team beating up the Dwarf captain of another team. The Spirit gets spotted by the Dwarf who nearly panicks and buys himself a stay of execution from the Gianelli's.
Eventually the party would get a bit out of hand, and Ryuuji was set up a bit by his team to pick a fight with the Evo team captain, Roc goading him into becoming quite rude and nearly handsy before engaging in a light fight with Ryuuji, ultimately leaving him with a couple cracked ribs and bruising, leaving him in bad shape for the race the next day. The rest of the teams fed drinks, drugs and street grade drugs until none of them are in good shape by the time the race actually starts.
The team shows up to watch the race, and Dango's charges were innocuous enough to disable two boats but not look like sabotage. The Gianelli team were able to just pull out the win, with no one the wiser that a Gianelli underboss rigged the match.
Aftermath
The Evo team's lead hotshot is pretty embarrassed in the neighborhood, and Lenny the Dwarf's family is probably leaving Outremer for good. The Scientology islanders are even more distanced from their neighbors than before after noticing scorch marks after the race, and the Gianelli's are looking slightly better than they were before.
