[[Funk]]: Starting out this run seemed bizarre. Giving a library a book without them knowing they didn't know it was coming? Super weird. The J was also super weird, showing up to a coffee shop in full armor and never taking it off while there. The book was apparently a tome(pretty cool old word huh?) of magical knowledge that has the potential to be lethal. I tend to leave magical drek alone, so I'm glad I was able to be a little remote on this one. Anyway, we found the warehouse we needed to go to, and there was a pretty wiz fellow techno who had the place on his PAN for some reason? I guess the company couldn't afford a host for the place. Anyway, he threw a salvo at me after I failed to be smooth enough putting a mark on him, so I decided to go in through the backdoor of the cameras. I got three marks and put his hoop to sleep. Hopefully he didn't die. Regardless, after I took him down I was able to get my sprite friend to make the lights glitch out, which gave [[Denarii]] cover to get the book into position, but also alerted the guards. Luckily I owned the cameras, so no one else was able to notice for a bit. I tried to deafen the guard but he just threw his earbuds on the ground. [[Denarii]] got in and out pretty drekkin' fast, and [[Cascade]] made a pretty epic getaway after the minor incident. Here's to hoping I didn't accidentally work for some sort of evil wizard or something...

Summary

The trio of runners are called to a Cafe in Redmond. The man inside offers them a simple job: Return a book to a library and make sure nobody knows that is what you're doing.

Background

Terunori Nonohori is a mysterious man who never exits his armor. Some people have said that he's got an eight pack, others are saying he isn't a human at all, and has no head! But either way, he's here now, and he has a mission: Deliver this mysterious and dangerous book to a local library for... some reason.

The Meet

The duo of Denarii and NSH get there quickly and have a chat with the J. Funk arrives shortly thereafter. The conversation is... confusing, to say the least. The main idea is to actually... return a library book. But the J wants to make sure that the library would have zero way to know the book was not supposed to be there. So, the ask was to edit the manifest and cover their tracks. Bonus points for being completely unnoticed, but ultimately he just wants it done. It is incredibly important that the library NOT KNOW that the tome he is delivering cast any aspersions or suspicion over the book. The team agrees, and NSH's drone stays behind to chat with the J as needed, as the J did not have a commlink. Nobody assensed the J.

The Plan

The plan is simple...

  1. Scan the area for tech and clues on the warehouse
  2. Find defenses and weaknesses
  3. Plant the tome sneakily
  4. Enter the matrix and edit the manifest

The Run

The runners hit the warehouse neighborhood and find the net surrounding the warehouse. Inside, Funk finds a Decker that turns out to be a Techno, An intial hack proves dangerous as the hack on the fly rebounds to hit Funk instead. Getting hit with a resonance spike, they try a different approach. A resonant nearby camera finds the mark traveling up to the Techno, which they use to slam the techno with triple marks. Funk and NSH use a moment of reprieve to hack and disable all the defenseless cameras.

Now that they realize the techno is only momentarily disabled, Denarii sneaks inside with the help of Cascade and a machine sprite from Funk. Sneaking in to the desired location, some choices lead to a guard finding and being alerted to the downed Techno. Denarii slams the book inside the desired shipping crate and runs to Cascade's car. Ordered to floor it, Cascade accidentally crashed her car, but then peels off for a second time to find her way to safety with Denarii.

Aftermath

Afterwards, NSH through the drone let the J know the job went well. The J had some questions though;

  1. Do you feel good about yourself?
  2. Were you spotted?
  3. Will anyone find out?

But through the choices of the runners to make it seem like other manifests were purposely messed with, they hid the fact that the book manifest had been altered. Satisfied, Terunori drops their credsticks for the run and leaves.

  • Hearing the run went well, the J drops 3 credsticks and leaves. However, when a nosy barista in the store notices that NSH's drone can't take the money, she nabs one and flees, dropping her commlink in a nearby truck. The team unwittingly chases the truck not the thief, and finds only an older man who just wants to fish. NSH vows to get her money back.
