Summary
Saint and Shredder finally make good on their skateboard contest promises, but their duel is interrupted by an inopportune gang scuffle.
Background
Much ado has been made in the ShadowHaven chatrooms about the commensurate skateboarding skill of two particular runners: the violent Saint and easygoing Shredder. Verbal sparring eventually gave way to an agreement to prove their skills on the pavement.
The Meet
The pair of runners met in a Puyallup junkyard, in territory loosely controlled by the Chulos, who Shredder has something of a good name with. Their arena seemingly unoccupied and replete with skate-able objects, including scrap conveyors, stacks of cars, a loading dock, and ample empty pavement, the pair agree to settle their dispute with a game of SKATE - winner takes all. "All" doesn't mean much more than bragging rights in this case, but is there anything more important?
The Run
Shredder's honed skill and Saint's mechanical augments make for a close contest, and the pair pull off one nigh-inhuman trick after the other - ascending a near-vertical stack of cars, darksliding an impossibly long fence, and more. Shredder eventually takes the lead by a hair, but as the contest progresses, voices become audible from a building within the junkyard. Soon, a number of Chulos come to see what all the fuss is about - and immediately want to see more skateboarding impossibilities. Shredder's charisma wins the crowd over to her side, and she maintains her lead over Saint, even if the contest is becoming a protracted affair.
Unfortunately, the next interruption isn't quite so positive. After a few more tricks, a young Chulo cuts into the festivities, proudly presenting a large amount of novacoke he acquired from a dubious source. Halfway through being interrogated by an elder gang member, that source makes itself clear - a number of Spikes, determined to reclaim some very salable stolen goods, ride in to attack the junkyard.
Nobody can stop the shredding, however, try as they might. The pair of runners give the Spikes a very bad day, slicing off hands and decapitating gangers by the power of their kickflips (literally, in the case of Shredder's bladed board). They are soon forced to retreat, and the Chulos suffer only minimal casualties.
Aftermath
After the young Chulo is berated by the elder ganger, there's a near-confrontation between him and Saint - but the latter backs down due to the help he received from the two runners. After offering the pair a share of the novacoke as thanks, they're left to finish their contest in peace, which Shredder eventually wins.
Rewards
4000 nuyen worth of Novacoke or 2000 raw nuyen (1 RVP)
1 Karma (1 RVP)
6 CDP + 2 Base (3 RVP, I recommend you spend this stuff on skateboard knowledge.)
