Character Information
Summary
'Superhero' from the 2040s, back from petrification after years of being on ice.
Goals
- Spread her fame across the world, becoming an inspiration for good
- Save as many people as she can
Background
Born the younger daughter of a small family in the mountains of Kyushu, Kurenai was a darling young woman who adored her big sister, Himena. Through school, Himena would enter kendo club, and immediately after so would Kurenai. The two constantly tried to one up eachother, competing and giggling - equal parts friends and rivals. Their rivalry would take them all throughout highschool, where both pushed eachother further and further.
It was when Himena knocked her out of the finals for kendo championships and earned a scholarship that the rift between the sisters would develop. Kurenai wouldn't attend college, though the up and coming Yamatetsu saw potential in management for the young woman. She was just taken on for an internship when she got a letter in the mail.
"We have your sister."
The Yakuza had kidnapped Himena, and were demanding an extortionate fee from Kurenai if she wanted to see her again. The younger sister would not be tolerating this transgression. After weeks of searching, she had found them. Hrabbing her grandfather's katana, Kurenai charged her way into the brothel they had her sister working, cutting down gangers and gangsters as she rushed to save Himena.
She was too slow. They had her at gunpoint as she blindly charged in. Himena begged her sister to run, but the oyabun was the man who pulled the trigger.
Kurenai doesn't remember the rest, or even if that was how it really happened. She just remembered the blood, the pain of gunshot wounds, and the tears on her sister's face as she died.
This was the moment that made the Goddess of Victory.
December 9th 2038 was the day that would haunt her forever.
In the wake of this event, Yamatetsu would see the young woman's wounds tended to. A board meeting would convene and discuss whether to fire the brazen intern, or to give her a job on the security team. It was the marketing department that offered a third take - augment her but leave her body as untouched by chrome. Show the world not only the glory of Yamatetsu, but they can be relied on. What she had done to the local gumi seemed impressive enough - and the marketing board evidently put forward a good enough case.
While Kurenai's convictions were steeled, the company had turned the woman into their mark - a display of justice to show in spite of backroom atrocities that every Corp hides. She went under, and was rebuilt. Stronger, better, faster.
12 years would pass by, leadership would change, an anime was made off her heroism, and she combated syndicates all over Japan and into the Philippines. Hostage situations, illegal bordellos, protection racketeering, human trafficking. She fought it all and as far as the public could tell, without augmentations.
It was when Yoshida lost power over Yamatetsu in 2050 that he feared the worst, and had the Goddess of Victory sealed away until his return to power.
A return that would never happen.
