Summary

Reina Taylor employs the team to slash and burn the HBI 48 host in order to prevent them from releasing a music video during the same time. The team digs up information on the security spiders and pays the two technomancers a digital visit inside their homes. They knock one out and intimidate another into staying away from the host for the day. The team hacks into the host and reformat the decker's deck while they plunder the files.

Background

Flash Star! has discovered that HBI 48 was planning to release a music video that would compete with their own in the next 2 months, so they've hired a team of runners to cause delays by destroying their files and blasting their spiders.

The Meet

Mokumokuren receives a call from Professor Riley who informs him of a new opportunity to do some matrix work he decides to telepresence for the meet from his home. Milena calls Kolibri about a matrix job that she's heard some rumblings about from her informants and tells her to head for Cherry's Shakes. Clown's commlink starts ringing like a retro phone as Dial-Up rings him with a new job offer and that the meet will be in Cherry's Shake. The team slowly trickles into the restaurant where they meet Reina Taylor. She presents the job to delete data on the HBI 48 host in order to delay their upcoming music video. The runners manage to negotiate a slight bonus to their pay and accept the job.

The Plan

Quickly, Mokumokuren fires off a matrix search in order to discover who the HBI 48 were. They were able to determine that it was the name for the Horizon Battle Idol group 48. Quickly, Mokumokuren and Kolibri performs a few in-depth matrix searches on the host's security and the security spiders that work there. The team determines that they want to linklock, and blackmail the technomancers in order to eliminate reinforcements to the host. As a follow-up, Mokumokuren and Kolibri compiles a dossier on them in order to strengthen their threats.

The Run

The team starts paying visits to the two technomancers. As they arrive at the first technomancer's home, they accidentally knock them out while attempting to link-lock them. Quickly, they move onto the second technomancer and almost knocks them out as well. The team helps Kolibri deliver their threat: Don't go to the host when the alarm is raised. He quickly agrees and goes to nurse his wounds from their encounter. Kolibri quickly calls GREY-1483 to see about borrowing a crack sprite. Kolibri quickly comes to an agreement with Grey and decides that they will have the sprite The team goes to the destination host where they decide to have Kolibri remain outside until the alarm is triggered since they do not possess hacking training. Clown and Moku enter the nested security host and start getting to work. Clown begins working on stealing the files while Moku starts working on formatting and rebooting the decker's deck. Partway through Clown's work with the files, they trigger the alarm. Kolibri moves into the nested host and begin working on the patrol IC while the team starts wrapping up their job. Before Moku boots the decker, they use bootstrap to run a threatening projection of a Mokumokuren when they next boot their deck up. Finally, they return to Reina to receive their pay.

Aftermath

HBI 48 suffers a delay to the release of their music trideo production pushing its release into September granting Flash Star! an uncontested summer release schedule.

Drek it feels good to do some good ol' fashioned decking, no wild murderhobo spree on cams or bloodsoaked rooms to pace through to plug into some offline terminal. Was a little unusual having the team defer to me to lead a multi-hacker effort, but it went rather smoothly... I wish there was a better way to ensnare a technomancer that doesn't require punching them in the brain though.
