Character Information

Summary

Good evening~ I have to admit, this is quite the welcome.

So this is the Shadows. Ugh, can you get even more cliche?

Yes yes, don't worry, I'll cut to the chase. I'm Morgan, of Morgan Esquire Service. Yes, I'm a Lawyer, Criminal Defense. A Pretty Damn good one, if you don't mind me saying.

Annnnnd their eyes are glazing over already. They think I'm a tourist.

Don't give me that look. I paid a lot of money, and burned a lot of contacts to get through the front door, so yes I do have a reason for reaching out.

Can't believe I sold off everything I own to get into this dingy operation. But beggars can't be choosers I suppose

Look I know I'm not the normal operator. But I am quite useful. I've dealt with shadowrunners in the past. You might think you don't need professional services like mine, but even your kind may have to deal with the law. And if nothing else. I can lend an operation an air of...legitimacy that some jobs require. I can charm, bluff, or bluster my way through most situations. I have a keen eye for details. And I'm well versed in the techniques and methods of law enforcement. But honestly, I think at the end my hidden value is having a tried and true lawyer on your operations side. I have some decent result, even against the State and Mega corporations, not bad for a one-woman operation, wouldn't you think?

It helps when you've stacked the deck in your favor

Hm? Then why join the Haven...?

Because I need more....thrill. More....excitement. There's no fun if there's no chance to go bust.

Well, if you want to make it big, you have to suck up to a megacorp, to the state, or the shadows. I've done all I can as a private business. The buy-in to the high stakes tables is not something I can afford by myself. So I came looking for a sponsor. I just so happened to have a few friends that are acquainted to your operation, so I called in every favor I had to arrange this meeting.

As for why I don't like megacorp or the state....

Disgusting filth. The hypocrisy, the posturing, the moralizing. If I could sink a knife in it all, I would do so in an instant.

Let's just say we have....creative differences. Look, I may not have the exact skills your needing, but you need someone who'll stare down a megacorporation or the state, and I've got the track record of doing just that. Skills can be developed. And there are skills I DO want to develop here. But I'll make it worth your while.

So what do you say? Excellent~ I'll start Monday!

Goals

This world is so boring with the people in power controlling everything. They think they've won, but that's what makes taking the pot from under their noses all the better. But I need more skills, more influence, to play at the table.

Yes what I've done so far, it's not enough humiliation. Win against the House in their own turf. Paint their marble thrones.....RED

Background

What's my name? Morgan, didn't you hear? Not on the record. That's my middle name. My first and last name? Last name is NLN: No Last Name. My family name is stricken from the record. No I don't know why. Maybe it has something to do with The chemical spill in my old neighborhood. Gave me a horrible constitution, and a permeant bad set of lungs.. *lights a cigarette*

Grew up in a small Orphanage. Angel's Palor. Pretty sure it's out of business now. Think it's a shopping mall now. Hm? Do I feel bad? Well it's where I learned the important lessons about myself...

I learned I wasn't like everyone else. I didn't have....dreams, or affection. Didn't really understand things like that. Instead of that, all I had was a giant hole. A giant hole that tried everything to be filled. Stole magazines from the store. Look out how to dress, how to act, how to talk. Learned to smile like a star from Horizon. Until that hole was surrounded by a shell of a woman. As for filling that hole...

Went to Cornell for Law School. Interned at...you don't need to know. Some small time practice led by a certified hag. Opened my own practice after that. Didn't really find my calling until I defended some punk kid from a murder charge.

It was exhilarating. Gambling with someone else's life. Money, fame, justice? None of that filled the hole. Not even for a second. But playing with a person's life? That was the first time....the hole was filled for a moment.

Hm? The People vs Flores? Yes that's the one. Pffft, you should've seen it. The house set the odds at +3500 that Flores would be found guilty of first-degree murder. Apparently full acquittal wasn't even on the docket....I heard a lot of people lost a lot of money on me.

Some two-bit mobsters even tried to make me 'pay' for ruining things. Well, theres more than one way to fill that hole

Hm? How did I get that acquittal? Oh, it's easy when you know that your client isn't guilty...when all the evidence just falls into place like a good friend you have seen in years...

After all.. I had to fill that hole somehow that night...

Hm? Believe in my clients? That's...irrelevant really. Saving Flores from the firing squad, saving people's lives from false convictions. It's all a statistic at the end. Take for example, the chemical disaster from my childhood. Killed over a hundred thousand people, factor in birth defect and injuries. A ganger or a murderer killing a person a day might as well be an accounting error. So why I do play the game so well? Stupid question! I play the game well so that I can keep playing at all~

So I can keep filling that hole

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Alibi: What can I say? I know the importance of a good Alibi. That includes myself. A Lawyer's Badge is a decent method in getting into restricted areas~
Most don't even bat an eye until its too late...

Profiler: Whether its a DA or a potential client. It pays to know them inside and out before your pitch.

Honest Face: I can tell that strained stare anywhere. You're trying to read me? Why bother? 99% of people suck at it.
You think sitting on that filthy throne makes you different? Don't make me laugh. It just makes you more detached. More easy to fool.

Closer: Hmmm? Why do I compare court to a poker game? It has everything: High stakes, bluffing, calling the bluff. And of course: The House always wins.
Unless you count cards.
Of course, it's only fun when the game's rigged against you. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Technical School Education: Listing my Law Degree at Cornell with all the dignity of a plumber or electrician? Well, I suppose the end results all the same. And its not like I'm currently not enrolled in a few trade schools to learn a bit extra on the weekends anyway.

Mentor Spirit: Hm? I'm awakened. Did I forget to mention that?
Relevance?
Must've slipped my mind!
.....
Get a hint, moron
Fine, I'm Follow the Raven. Helps with my job. Don't worry, I'm good at controlling myself. I usually keep the griefing to just snide comments.

Negative

Did you Just Call me Dumb?: .......*Smiles*
Yes.

Asthma: Courtesy of some Chemical Spill. Doctors said I got lucky. Yeah. Getting lungs that look like charred steak is Lucky. Getting a super-flu every year like Clockwork because your immune system is shot is lucky (1 Body)
Kill a man for a loaf of bread and you're a menace that needs to be locked up. Kill Thousands and scar thousands more? It was an accident. No one couldn't seen it happen. Pay a fine and think about what you've done. The sacred cow of capitalism marches on. And the ones sitting atop the throne? Practically flaunting the fact that the rules don't apply to them.

Poor Self Control: I want my Crime Scenes Neat Organized and CLEAR OF OBSTRUCTIONS.
That means you. Stand outside. Freaking voyeurs. Don't they have anything better to do with their.....SON OF A
DO NOT TOUCH. I WILL GUT YOU LIKE A FISH IF YOU DISTURB THE EVIDENCE......I'm fine I'm fine....
I'm not fine. I'm actually very irritated.

National SINNER: Well yeah, I went to Law School, I walk into District Courts. You think I can just burn my SIN and not have every cop and detective walking into my practice. You think I can afford to use a Fake SIN for such things? That would be a stupid way to bust out.

Organizations

Allies

She still has some friends in her old job. Lawyers, Coroners, clerks. The Beast that is the Legal system still can lend a hand.

Enemies

Cops: Corrupt or not, cops don't like defense attorneys, especially ones that enjoy pointing out the many illegal ways cops often "come across" evidence and "obtain" confessions.

Mafia: They still have a black eye from The People vs Flores. The Legal System protected Morgan in the past, now that she's scurried into the shadows, maybe this might be their chance to knock her down a peg.

Matrix Search Table

Threshold Result
1 Morgan Esquire's website pops up. Criminal Defense Attorney. Graduated Law School from Cornell. Very minimalist website. Rates are low for a lawyer. List of Cases are mostly Public Defense cases ranging from theft and arson to first-degree murder. Highest profile case is People vs Flores. A High profile murder case as Flores was thought to be a well-known at the time serial killer.
3 Morgan boasts above average rates of acquittal and reduced sentencing. A high feat considering most of her cases are Public Defendant cases, meaning she has minimal time to prepare. Her highest rates of victory are murder charges. Suggesting she thrives on higher profile charges.
6 Penelope Morgan NLN. No Last Name. Parents have been purged from the records along with her last name. Caught in a chemical disaster at a young age. Matrix photo shows her entering a building with people with known mobster connections, and only she left. Mobster were never seen from again, and no charges were pressed. Morgan only stated that they had a talk about betting odds and an agreement was made.

Shadow Community Table

Threshold Result
1 Capable Investigator, Social Skills. Have a National SIN for jobs that require that.
3 Was once hired as a simple Lawyer to play along and defend a shadowrunner while other runners tried to free the shadowrunner. Morgan just....won the case and got the runner acquitted.
5 Rumor has it that she was once ganked by a ganger will investigating a crime scene. Assensing shows that several adept powers were used and the ganger was never seen from again. Not that anyone looked hard for that trash
