Character Information
Summary
As a former special forces combat decker, Shutdown specialises in disabling devices, drones and security systems during tactical operations rather than deep date-runs and information gathering. It's not that she is unable to do these things competently, simply that her inclinations are more towards combat decking and communications security than information gathering and matrix searches.
Although a reasonably attractive young woman; Shutdown is taciturn, even terse. She communicates in short, clipped, concise sentences much as she would in the field, even when socialising. She's habitually tense, with a distracted, almost sullen expression while she watches her surroundings or stares into her drink. Eloquent and gregarious, Shutdown is not.
Goals
Long-Term Goals: Retrieve her three year old daughter from the custody of her father and his extended family "band".
Short-Term Goals: Work the Shadows, Make Contacts, Make Nuyen, Pay the Bills. Upgrade Cyberdeck. Upgrade Cyberware.
Background
A native of Cheyanne in the Sioux Nation, Julia is the descendent of prison guards taken as prisoners by the forces of Danial Howling Coyote during the war of the Great Ghost Dance. Eager to divest her family name of it's shame, she became the first Woodrow of the Sioux nation to be accepted for conscription upon completion of high school, and re-enlisted as a member of the Sioux Army thereafter, quickly rising to join the ranks of the Sioux Wildcats as a communications and electronic warfare specialist.
It was while serving in the Wildcats that she would meet the father of her child, Raymond Three Trees, a member of the Sioux Air Force, and eventually become his wife. Their marriage quickly failed however, but not before she had born her husband a daughter. Divorce proceedings turned bitter, and during the worst period of acrimony, shortly after Raymond's band successfully filed for custody of their child, Julia was almost slain in a drone accident. Toughened by her Wildcat training, Julia was able to crawl away from the wreck of her family car. Her parents, and two younger brothers were not. Convinced that another attempt was made upon her life while she recuperated in hospital, her own family band both encouraged and helped her flee to Seattle, where she began a new life for herself as a mercenary.
Julia spent three years under her assumed false identity and fake SIN as a member of a small mercenary unit operating out of the city, undertaking missions in Quebec both for and against the corporations and indigenous Amerindian tribes, as well as in Lagos, the South China sea, and other warzones. A mission gone wrong led to the scattering of her group amidst mistrust and suspicion. Returning to Seattle, she undertook some sporadic bodyguard work here and there before being approached by SysOpTrayns, via intermediaries, with an offer of admission to Shadowhaven and a new career deeper in the Shadows.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
Lightning Reflexes: The Sioux Wildcats focus on improving the natural capabilities of their members rather than extensive modification. Consequently, Shutdown has developed her reflexes and combat instincts to a almost preternatural degree.
Overclocked: Sioux Wildcats have a far smaller operational budget that many of their counterparts, and consequently they strive to get as much out of their equipment as possible.
Negative
Big Regret: Shutdown left her daughter behind in Cheyenne when she resigned from the Wildcats and fled to UCAS. Not being able to bring see or speak with her haunts her thoughts constantly.
Code of Honour: As an Akichita of the Sioux Nation, Shutdown may never show fear, must seek out challenging opponents against which to test and improve herself, never fall into decadent or slothful behaviour and not allow the weak or innocent to come to harm. Unlike many followers of this code, Shutdown does not use it as an excuse to go around brawling or provoking combat with her fellow professionals. She does occasionally err somewhat towards decadence however, due to infrequent bouts of drinking and drug-taking. Particularly when thoughts of her abandoned daughter are particularly pervasive.
SINner (Sioux Nation): Shutdown's true identity remains alive and well on Sioux databases, although she is currently listed as a "Missing Person". Should she ever return to the Sioux Nation in her true SIN, she might be charged with a crime for failing to meet her reservist obligations.

---|---|
1 | Shutdown is the street name of a decker than used to run with local mercs based out of Seattle. |
3 | Shutdown does a decent job of covering her tracks. There's not much to find about her on the matrix other than a few grimy pic files of her posing with her fellow mercs in various hell-holes all over the world. All with the faces obscured, 'natch. |
6 | After clean-up, those Facial biometrics match that of an Ares security operative named Julia Rhodes. SIN's fake; though it's a good enough forgery to fool most official sources unless they take a good, long look. |

1 | I -think- there's a decker by that name running the Shadows. Maybe? |
3 | Shutdown. She's a merc. A specialist in what she calls "information and electronic warfare". Walks around dressed for a battlefield all the time. Wears war-paint on the job like cultural appropriation isn't a concept she's ever heard of. |
5 | Idiot. It's not cultural appropriation when you're from the Nan. She's Sioux. Well, you know, not actual Sioux, but from the Sioux Nation. Scuttlebutt in merc circles has it that she's a former Wildcat, if you can believe that? |
SINs
SINner (Sioux Nation): Julia Hall Woodrow, Sioux Army Reservist and former Wildcat.
FAKE SIN: Julia Rhodes (ARES). SIN and all licenses are Rating 4: Bodyguard, Concealed Carry, Cyberdeck, Driver, Firearms, Matrix Software, Restricted Armor, Restricted Augmentations.
Appearance
A Caucasian woman of middling height and Germanic features, Shutdown keeps herself in fine shape without allowing herself to run to bulk. Her physique occupies the middle ground between slothful, skinny decker and toned professional soldier, rendering her somewhat unremarkable at first and sometimes even second glance. When on a run, and "going tactical" Shutdown daubs her face and hands with dark, blue-green war paint in patterns obviously intended as a statement of intent rather than true camouflage.
Shutdown has spent enough time as a bodyguard that she knows when to attract attention, and when to blend into the background as just another pedestrian. That being said, when she's not trying to be noticed, she moves in the manner of a practiced martial artist and combatant, careful to keep her weight centred and beneath her shoulders while she moves.
Clothing
Shutdown favours the fashion choices of her homeland - casual, pseudo-military clothing in various urban and wilderness camouflages with an assortment of pockets and sturdy combat boots. It's unheard of to witness Shutdown wearing a dress except under duress, and if she absolutely positively must "dress for an occasion" she'll do so by wearing the most practical appropriate clothing she can find - favouring suits cut for men's styles over pocket-less feminine designs and one-piece swimsuits over a bikini.
She is almost always armed. Even when swimming she has a survival knife strapped to her thigh, and those who know her best often joke that she most likely wears it even in the shower. Shutdown doesn't find the joke funny. She thinks anyone who showers unarmed is an idiot.
Matrix Persona
A stylised special forces soldier with a mountain lion's head, festooned with military equipment.

- Newsfeed dated 03/04/79 concerning the disappearance of one Julia Hall Woodhouse from her family ranch shortly after the death of several family members in a drone crash. Circumstances are not reported as suspicious. The article includes statements by several neighbours to the effect that Mrs Woodhouse, recently divorced, blamed herself for the accident that claimed three family members. It is heavily implied that her disappearance is indicative of suicide.
