Character Information

Summary

Former NeoNET corpsec troll who is wanted for civilian casualties in the Boston quarantine zone.

Goals

  • Get her bounty nullified
  • Build a new life
  • Maybe find a new security or mercenary corp to join up with, as long as the pay's solid

Background

Zoe Powell was the kid of corporate SINners in Boston, first of Novatech then following to NeoNET. She was a bit of an aggressive kid, some might say a bully, but she did well in school, and her natural toughness and capable mind made her of interest to her parent corp. She was encouraged by the corporation to join up with Minuteman Security. Interested in the idea of power and seeking an outlet to work out her aggression, she gladly did so. She was trained as a heavy gunner for her squad, augmented up for her role, and everything was pretty good!

Until, of course, CFD was unleashed in Boston, and a large part of the city was locked down. As a NeoNET corporate security soldier, she was sent in to help deal with the problem. What she saw there was horrifying. Swarms of crazed, inhuman monsters, the constant threat of infection. Starvation and desperation in the streets. Her training could never have prepared her for it. When it got bad enough, Zoe snapped, and while assigned to a mission to escort refugees gone wrong, gunned them down, unsure if they might have been infected or not. Zoe was shocked by her own mistake, but the situation was so dire that the rest of her squad took it in stride. They bestowed upon her a cruel nickname, "Misfire," and her CO promised to keep it under wraps so she could continue the desperate cleanup effort in the city.

This worked well enough, until NeoNET went tumbling down the drain. Minuteman Security was sold off to Horizon, and for a while, Zoe Powell was able to continue her work there. Unfortunately, during reorganization, the UCAS government got wind of the massacre and coverup, and were still itching for retribution for NeoNET's botched containment efforts. Horizon was more than willing to throw Zoe under the bus to get it all dealt with, and as a result, Zoe was forced to go into hiding. She struck a deal to get her information erased and moved to a new sprawl, Seattle, to try and build a new life for herself. At least she has the skillset and stomach for criminal work.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

  • Erased: Misfire's made a deal with corrupt Horizon execs to keep her information off the Matrix. This makes it particularly hard to find information about her - as long as she doesn't make too much of a scene.

Negative

  • Phobia (Mild, Monads): Misfire's seen the horrors of the Boston Quarantine Zone, and while she's grown somewhat numb to the shock of it, that sort of fear never really goes away.
  • Poor Self Control (Combat Monster): Misfire has an aggressive streak, a tendency to kill without care if a situation gets messy enough.
  • Wanted (UCAS, 40k): Misfire is personally responsible for dozens of civilian casualties in the Boston Lockdown, and the forces who were willing to cover up for her no longer have power.
