Summary
3 wacky runners wander through the woods to silence a man.
Background
Having seen something he should not have, one Gregory Schmidt goes on the run. Certain individuals wish for him to be silenced as to what he saw.
The Meet
Meeting near a makeshift yet somehow still quality motel in the northern portion of Everett. Neznayka is able to convince the J that Saint is a worthy addition to this run and allows it but at reduced pay for them and the third yet to arrive. The third turning out to be Zan Zan. The three women, now assembled are relayed information to the job at hand. An older man by the name of Gregory Schmidt had seen an interaction he should not have. After further prodding via Nez, the J was alright with them being alright, so long as there was a confirmed method that they remain silent. The runners agreeing with this and the pay they would be receiving, were given small button sized cameras to ensure the task was completed. After they left Nez's open suspicion of their employer posed a potential conflict of interest with Zan's code of conduct. Ensuring whatever job she stated she would do, she would do regardless of what got in her way. Though for now at least ehy were able to settle these potential disagreements. With this under way the runners set off to ensure Gregory's silence, but also perhaps also uncover what had he had seen.
The Plan
Looking into methods of reconnaissance, the runners first decided to have a spirit search the astral to figure out where they may have last gone to. Heading to a small local talismonger in Redmond who gave them access to their physical printer with little issues after the nuyen was sent over. As the spirit began its search, Saint called upon her usual contacts 8ball and Lee Owens. One looking through the matrix as the other looks into their social connections. After a little while 8ball was able to figure out they had gone north through Everett into the SSC, their exact location as of now being unknown but they were seen heading through with a group of armed personnel. Giving them a small donation and some banter, 8ball hung up. Lee Owens however was able to through their social connections figured out Gregory was a regular old scrapyard worker nearing his retirement age with a decent family, stayed a bit past his shift and began running. Apparently they made a deal with some Cutters and were seen heading north and booking it to some city in the SSC. Likely in Bellingham or further north. Thankful for this and with the spirit confirming the general area of Gregory being in the woods along a path northward was attained.
With Nez deciding that bringing their bear companion may not be a wise decision for the tightened SSC border patrol, the runners arrived at the checkpoint with Zan Zan hiding in the smuggling compartment. As their sins were scanned Saint's sin came back as a fake and the two were interrogated accordingly. With Nez proceeding to pull together a touching story of how they were corporate sinners who wanted to be together but the corporations would not allow it. Also shaking the car during her performance to give difficulties to the Rangers trying to see if they were smuggling anything through the border, leaving the cover of Zan Zan solid. Through her acting chops and Saint occasionally chiming in to assist in telling the story being relayed, the border guards sighed and stated they had roughly 24 or so hours to enjoy the SSC but if they did not return in that time frame the Rangers would hunt them down. Thanking the rangers for their understanding they were allowed through the border with a timeframe now in the back of their heads.
The Run
As they continued on into the wilderness, Zan decided to investigate the area to see if they could find Gregory ahead. Despite their stealth being near top quality, a fire spirit of potent force noticed and stopped her. Asking her of her intentions. Stating simply they were looking for someone in these woods. The spirit simply stating after this that if they were to pursue the one it was protecting it would kill her before disappearing into the woods. Returning to the car Zan relayed the situation at hand and knowing that likely is where their target would be. Nez and Saint geared up accordingly and followed a set of prints laid below them. Nez realizing their may be some of the figures on alert given the spirit knew of their presence sent one of her rat companions to scout and sure enough the small creature noticed several armed and decently armored cutters sitting in wait for any attackers.
Using this to their advantage Zan and Saint got into position as Nez lined up a shot. On Nez's signal Saint and Zan charged forward and combat began as several lines of automatic fire fell upon the runners with varying degrees of effectiveness. Saint managing to evade most of the rounds with Zan's armor took most of the blows. Nez's marksmanship and stealth proving incredibly effective. Even as not only the one fire spirit but another showed themselves, the runners held firm. Throughout all this subduing their attackers as opposed to outright murder. Zan choosing to take on the spirits as Saint went to attack the mages that they were in service to. The fighting raged on as all three did their part. And eventually even despite Saint's rage building up as the flame burned brighter, all their enemies were subdued, banished, or surrendered as opposed to killed.
Aftermath
The remaining conscious Cutters agreed to take them to Gregory after the runners stated that is who they were after. The Cutters upon arriving calling off one of their hired mercenaries, one named Siegfried which none of the runners managed to detect before now. Gregory laid in wait inside a nearby cave which Nez entered. The noise inside the cave causing the device given by the J malfunction allowing her to ask Gregory what he had saw. He was scared, not wishing to die but after Nez managed to calm him down he relayed what he knew. He saw a group of Ancients meeting at the scrapyard he worked at. They seemed to be meeting with a group of figures clad in black armor. After one looked in his direction he ran as fast as he could. Gregory seemed willing to give more but Nez had heard enough and headed out of the cave. Gregory was then assured by the runners if he told anyone of what he knew, they would hunt him down and kill him. Gregory now left with little else to do was left to his vices as the runners departed back home with a run well done. The border guards allowing them pass according to their agreement. But with a mystery not fully resolved they simply headed back home with pay in hand. At the very least, they kept their word.
