Summary

Mirage is a mid to long range machine gunner who can rely on her stealth to hit the enemy from where they least expect it and disappear before they can fire back, or can lay down cover fire for her allies.

Goals

She wants to be able to afford a luxury lifestyle to retire to.

Background

Born in 2013 to human parents, Laura would be one of the cases of Unexplained Genetic Expression- instead being born a Nocturna. During her childhood she faced both discrimination and praise for being an elf, and the complications didn't end there; during puberty, she would become an adept, but in fear of not being able to socialize she would reject those powers, never developing any abilties through them.

As she grew older, she decided to enlist in the military and although she was a fan of aviation she would join a Heavy Weapons Platoon in the Spanish Army. As an elf she didn't feel the passage of time like humans do. Years sometimes felt like months, and time flew by without her realising.

It was now 2061, 30 years had passed. Her parents had peacefully passed away by this time, but she was still serving in the Army as an instructor for the future generations. During a training excercise, the Halley's Comet flew by, causing multiple recruits of the platoon she was training and the time and herself to be changed by it. However this wasn't all that happened right then and there; during that moment she caught a glimpse of knowledge no one should see. Visions of another world, and the horrors that consumed it. This left her completely blind, burning that knowledge forever behind her eyes. Although she never spoke a word of what she saw, she was discharged from the Army for her blindness and showing signs of mental instabilty after the accident.

Desperate to find some way to regain her sight, she sought out to reconnect to the powers she rejected as a child now that the world had become more accepting of Adepts, and it was easier to finds others who share her abilities and would be able to help and teach her to see in new ways. And after years of deep meditation and training, she eventually learned to see through the Astral and reconnect with her powers, determined to make further use of them with time.

Knowing that she wouldn't be able to go back into the military or any type of work that'd make use of her expertise, she looked into other, less than legal work where the requirements to join in are much less strict, which eventually led her to travel to Seattle, in the United Canadian and American States.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Biocompatibility (Cyberware), Redliner: To keep herself at the top of her game without losing herself to her cyberware, she went through a couple biological adjustments.

Changeling (Class II SURGE), Functional Tail (Balance), Fangs, Vomeronasal Organ: Thanks to the SURGE, Mirage gained various traits similar to a dog's, which benefited her positively.

Agile Defender, Perfect Time, Shoot First Don't Ask: Thanks to her experience in battle, she has learned how to keep herself alive.

History Is Not As Certain As We Are Taught: She caught a glimpse of a world long gone and the horrors that brought it's end.

Low-Light Vision, Keen-Eared: Thanks to her Nocturna birth gifts, she has better vision in the dark and a sharper sense of hearing.

Negative

Flashbacks I, Insomnia (Basic): Due to her decades spent as a soldier, she suffers from multiple psychological issues.

Cold-Blooded, Striking Skin Pigmentation: The SURGE affected her body- both internally and externally. 

Slow Healer: The surge also caused her body to recuperate at a slower pace, making any form of healing used on her less effective.

Blind: For reasons she keeps only to herself, she went completely blind. Although, she is now able to see through the Astral.

Social Appearance Anxiety I: Due to the inability to see herself anymore, she often worries about her appearance.

Nocturnal, Mild Sunlight Allergy, Unusual Hair: Her Nocturna genetics cause her to be more active at night and have a mild allergic reaction to sunlight, as well as changing her hair.

Appearance

Mirage is a blind Nocturna Elf, born in Spain. Despite her blindness, her eyes still retain a slight hint of the golden hue they once had, and her olive skin now has turned into an unnatural black at the ends of her arms and legs after being changed by the Halley's Comet. She has black unkempt hair extending right down to her shoulders, which she usually picks up into a bun during missions, and there are strikes of gray across her hair, which might be a result caused from the stress she suffered after becoming blind or as a sign of aging, despite being an elf. She has long, pointy Dobermann-like ears which replaced her regular Elven ears during her SURGE. To accompany her dog-like appearance, she has long canines and a fairly long furred tail springing from her lower back. She is not a very social person, preferring to listen and usually only talking when it is required of her. Despite this, she can be very open with other soldiers, often sharing tales of the past, or if she finds someone who shares her interest for aircrafts.

Clothing

Sleeping Tiger Longcoat, sometimes wearing a cloak to protect her from the sunlight.
