Character Information

Summary

An former e-ganger, skilled with deck and sword, who aspires to live up to knightly ideals--without falling to the depths of the knightly historical reality.

Goals

  • Show the Electric Knights how a real knight should act
  • Serve as an exemplar for hackers and street samurai alike
  • Carve out spaces on the matrix free of the megacorps' control

Background

This tale starts in Tacoma. Our hero, Sircuit, grew up SINless with a gift for the technical and a strong sense of right and wrong. He felt victimized by “the system”, and had power on the matrix that the real world denied him. But he was still a teenager, with much to learn about the world.

For example, he thought the Electric Knights gang was the coolest people alive, and wanted to join them. Sircuit had enough matrix skills for them to let him hang around. Some wires and swordplay impressed them even more, convincing the group to allow this teenager the “privilege” of being one of their bodyguards.

And so things went. But as he grew older, the indiscriminate nature of the gang’s matrix pranks began to wear on him. His suggestions that the gang pursue a more anti-authority agenda was viewed as boring and uninspired.

The final straw came when Sircuit was called upon to defend the gang from the consequences of its own actions. A power surge from a backfired hack had blacked out the entire neighborhood, and the local SINless knew exactly who to blame. The Electric Knights’ usual irreverence was received poorly by the neighbors, who escalated the argument into a fight. Sircuit’s loyalty to the gang and CQC skills weren’t enough to defeat two dozen highly motivated people, and his stepping in to defend the hackers (who had retreated inside their fortified structure once the fighting started) made him a lightning rod for their anger. By the time they left, Sircuit was barely alive.

The Electric Knights were willing to chip in for cybersurgery to replace the body parts that had been damaged beyond repair, but this gesture was too little too late. Sircuit had lost too much respect for the Electric Knights. While recovering, he pondered what to do instead of playing bodyguard for script kiddies. Being an independent contractor would let him apply his skills to better causes, so he disentangled himself from the gang (who allowed him to leave once they realized Sircuit had no plans of ratting them out) and struck out on his own as a shadowrunner.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

  • Instinctive Hack+Overclocker+Perfect Time: "The one good thing about spending years with a bunch of overly competitive nerds? You pick up a lot of tricks, learn to make the most of what you've got."
  • Ronin (dodge+cyberware): This man has studied the blade.

Negative

  • Code of Honor (Warrior's Code): Sircuit holds himself to a high standard, knowing that for now he may be the only one who can appreciate it. But to him, if violence isn't worth doing "right" then it isn't worth doing at all.
  • Prank Warrior: While the Electric Knights aren't out for Sircuit's blood after he left their gang, they do think his personal crusade is silly and delight in testing his resolve by trolling him during shadowruns. This generally takes the form of an Electric Knights decker dressed in an opposing knight persona (with some kind of anachronistic design or heraldry marking them as a member of the gang) showing up to cause mischief.

Clothing

When not worried about attracting the wrong kind of attention, Sircuit will wear his chain mail over a thick sweater (thinner in the summer) and overalls. If he has to worry about getting connected with criminal activity he'll ditch the chain mail. In situations where violence is expected, Sircuit will don a knight's helmet and add plate-armor-esque PPP systems, and carries an arming sword in a leather scabbard.

Matrix Persona

Unsurprisingly, his persona takes the form of a knight. Even his "civilian" version is heavily detailed, with a focus on realism over stylization. His persona when run off his cyberdeck takes this a step further by adding a horse that he rides, a roan charger almost as detailed as the knight part of the persona, and a suite of weapons.

Character Plot Hooks

Here are characteristics of the character that GMs may take advantage of to add complications to runs, or to otherwise use when in use. If you want to use them in unrelated to runs, please ask first.
