Character Information

Summary

Mobile reconnaissance-fire complex. Integrated target acquisition and destruction. Democratised Artillery. Killchain for hire. At least that's the goal. Right now, it's a rusted roadmaster, a couple of drones and an orphan with a dream. Killchain is a rigger living in the squatter community of Hardpan in the Puyallup barrens. His best friend and only family, Wiretap, a low-level AI he salvaged out of a wrecked drone as a child. Physically, he's a skinny, naive looking young adult. Usually grease-stained and ash-coated. Keeps an orange tabby cat by the name of "Scrap" who often accompanies Killchain on runs as he refuses to leave the Roadmaster.

Orphaned at a young age when his father died while running convoy security, Killchain was adopted by a low-level AI he found in the wreck of a drone. With the drones and truck his father left him, Killchain began doing small jobs for Hardpan, eventually becoming a shadowrunner.

Background

Born in 2069, Killchain’s father was a SINless convoy protection runner operating the I-5 and 509 corridors through the Puyallup Barrens. Killchain rode shotgun before he could reach the pedals, learned to drive in ash storms and memorised the routes.

In 2079, his father took a medical supply run to Carbonado during a drought season. A go-ganger crew tracked the convoy, hitting them in a dust storm. His father held the line so Killchain could escape in the Roadmaster, losing his leg in the process. Driving until the storm cleared and he reached Hardpan, the commune took him in.

When he was old enough to venture out into the barrens on his own, Killchain scavenged a crashed Shiawase surveillance drone. The pilot program was fragmented, persistent, trying to complete its last mission: *monitor, record, report*. He plugged it into his father's old RCC and let it run, venting his grief.

The fragments emerged around him. By the time Killchain was 16, the AI who he named Wiretap had been like a guardian to him. Locking the ignition in his darker moments, talking him through his first solo runs, monitoring his vitals and ensuring his survival.

By his 18th Birthday, Killchain had rebuilt his father's Roadmaster and even made upgrades to it, ready to begin providing his services to the Shadowhaven. The reconnaissance-fire complex: spot the target, close the loop, deliver fire. He runs convoys on the 509, protects Hardpan, and takes shadowruns for the nuyen that buys Wiretap's upgrades and improvements to his arsenal.

Electronic Witness - Is constantly recording through his drones and vehicles. Occasionally posts some of his footage.

Reaction 1 (Not a quality) - Killchain spent much of his childhood and teen years with only 1 leg. He spent this time in VR/AR, his drones granting him the ability to explore that his body couldn't. As such, he's basically a commlink kid, quick in VR/AR but slow to react in meatspace and always distracted, even after regaining mobility with his cyberleg.

Hardpan

Killchain lives in Hardpan, a squatter commune of ~100 SINless in the Puyallup Barrens, midway between Carbonado and the Hell's Kitchen lava flows. The settlement clusters beneath the standing concrete pillars of an overpass, walled in with salvaged scrap metal and centered on a single geothermal spring. Its people survive on hydroponic farming and salvaging. Killchain assists with convoy duty and helps provide surveillance and security when not on a run.

Hardpan bar and grill

When not on a run or in his garage, Killchain can often be found at the Hardpan Bar and Grill.

He has an orange tabby cat named "Scrap" who stubbornly accompanies him everywhere, including on runs.

Killchain is still in his edgy teenager phase and designed a logo on the back of his armored jacket with the symbol of a spades converted into a skull with the words "Killchain" underneath. The other residents of Hardpan often roll their eyes when they see it.
