The Rad Wars are one of the most awaited event of the years for fan of military tactics and equipment, for weeks, team from across the globes coming from country and corporation, throw their forces at each others in violent game taking place in the SOX, a radioactive wasteland in Northern France. The Area of Operation consist of an 100 square kilometers area north of the town of Metz, as such the Rad Wars offer plains, forest, swamp and Urban area for unit to manoeuvers around, the air space of the Rad Wars is also closed as Air Group follow each team and aerial combat is often pivotal.

While mercenary units are commonly found amongst national and corporate team to fill the gap, Runners are also hired to steal prototype on the field or to record raw footage from the Rad Wars that can go for great prices and dark streaming matrix node. Extraction are also common since valuable technician could be found on the frontline to maintain expansive equipment.

The Area and it's Hasard

The Rad Wars take place in the SOX which is already a problem, while the unit usually don't stay on the ground long enough to have long lasting effect, wearing radiation shielding at all time is mandatory. The Area chosen for the Rad Wars is an 100 square kilometers area including the town of Metz and the northern surrounding. This combat area give actually a lot of terrain to work with, polluted swamp, mutated forest, plains and of course the bane of modern combat, urban areas (even after 14 session of Rad Wars Metz is more of a pile of rubble than anything else). The Airspace over that area is also open for jet fighter and bombers to provide air support to their team so keeping an eye out is always good on that end. Combat last day and night until the phase is over.

All team are housed in the village of Montigny-les-Metz, south of the town where the exercice take place.

Le Bataillon Frontalier

The SOX doesn't limit herself to the Rad Wars, actually it take place in only a fragment of the whole area. MET 2000 has a whole part of their asset tie to the SOX doing frontier buisness making sure no one cross the borders.And their are pretty good at it. Of course the forces from MET2000 that partake in the Rad Wars are not picked from this sub unit as their are very much needed, especially since a lot of clever runners could take advantage of the situation of the Rad Wars to border cross more easily.

The Tribes

There is two grand category of peoples living in the SOX, the natives and the Corporate, of course there is sometimes runners, smuggler and so on, but the majority of peoples you'll find are either from those groups. The native tribals are actually descending from French, German or Luxembourgish citizen that decided to stay or couldn't leave the contaminated area after the Catenom Powerplant incident of 2008. Forming tribes and surviving with what they have those tribes began to forget a lot of concept as the emphasis was put on survival and not on knowledge keeping, while only two generation serapate the Six World of now from the knowledge of those tribals, many things have change, and many of them would think that a troll, is just someone suffering from radiation.

An important thing to note is that whoever you talk to who is from the tribes, they will never take money, it mean nothing to those peoples. Barters and trade is what you are looking for. Here is some trade offers that are "common" 1 medkit for 10 liters of pure water 1 pistol for three days of food 1 mag for 5 liters of gasoline Pair of boots for 1 day of food Cigarettes in exchange of Alcohol Water purifying unit for 2 service from a spirit summoned by a local Chaman Candies in exchange of clean clothes A tool box in exchange of a bedroom for 2 days.

Tribes could be divided in categories that might be encountered by runners who snoop away from the exercice area of the Rad Wars. The Imlanders : "Those from within" This refer to the most common tribes one could find, made from nomad, semi-nomad or even sedentary group, most of them are suspicious of outsider from over the Wall that border the SOX, but they sometimes have contact with smugglers. Sometimes in some places some tribes would gather and grand market would be help where everyone can barter goods. Les Écorchés : "The Flayed" as their are called are the equivalent of gangs, made of violent peoples that rely on raid to survive more than anything else. Those are group any runners want to avoid, some leaders would receive smugglers or runners to talk of course but they would also be ready to kill them and grab everything they have at the first occasion. Toxic Cults : Of course many of the peoples who awakened in the SOX turn toxic and quickly join brotherhood of madmen reveling in the most radioactive place that the SOX has to offer.

All teams share the same goal, being the winner of the Rad Wars, winning that contest give some prestige and often lead to some good publicity about the efficiency of said military unit or the mercenary group aligned with a team.

Pushed away from the city of Metz in 2070, there was actually a lot of effort made to clean the radiation and pollution for the city, for the sake of SOX tribals. All of this in vain since after about of decade of Rad Wars the situation might be even worse than when the power plant has it's leak. Due to this, a lot of Eco-Terrorist cell and Eco-Shaman try to hinder the Rad Wars and send their message to the world.
