Summary

The team was tasked with ruining a business structure, similar, but legally distinct, from a Stuffer Shack. They killed the gangers that were guarding it and blew it to smithereens!

Background

A client hired a Mr. Johnson to recruit a team to destroy a startup business convenience store called the Mighty Market Mart. Unknown to the Shadowrunners, the client, one Mr. Corvin Monroe, was the owner of the store who wanted it razed to the ground for the insurance money.

The Meet

Four Shadowrunners, Khranitel, Pacho Brunhilde, and “Song of the Brook”, received calls and texts on their commlinks from their respective fixers. It was made known that a Mr. Johnson by the name of “Mr. Verdant Green” would like to meet them and discuss a job. They were made aware that it may involve a more “explosive” touch, and to come prepared.

The party arrived at a dive bar called “Aces” where the meet was designated to happen ahead of time. There, they met Mr. Verdant Green and he offered them a run. He needed a startup business called “The Mighty Market Mart” destroyed as much as possible. “Raze it to the ground, if you can.” were his words. He offered them 14,000 Nuyen for the task.

Most of the team made the connection that he was likely a new Mr. Johnson looking to get his feet wet, perhaps as a “midlife crises” type situation. They figured they could easily convince him to pay them a higher reward. They sorely underestimated him when they discovered that despite his rather novice appearance and mannerisms, he was an expert negotiator. He actually almost convinced them to take less! Luckily, with some quick backpeddling, everyone agreed to the original offer of 14,000 Nuyen.

The Plan

The team discussed a few different courses of action, such as sneaking in, throwing molotov cocktails at the building, and just blowing it up, but in the end, realized it would be a good idea to case the target business first.

The Run

Arriving at the Mighty Market Mart, the team perceived that civilians were avoiding the location, and the building was mostly boarded up with black paint and tarps on the windows. They did notice, though, that one window just had a curtain or tarp of some sort over the inside, and another was simply barricaded from a single large wooden board from the outside. They also spied a single gang member of some sort, wearing gothic clothing, was guarding the front, towards the corner of the sidewalk.

The team decided Pacho would try to fake like his car broke down on the road next to the Mart, and try to lure the hoodlum into the alley so the team could take him down. While the rest of the group stayed out of sight, he put his plan into action.

Unfortunately, it did not go as he expected, and the gang member realized Pacho was trying to fool them. They threatened and blustered and tried to intimidate Pacho, but despite this, he tried to offer them a cred stick in apology. With Pacho not taking the “last chance” he was given, the punk shot a few holes into Pachos car! As they tried to walk away, Khranitel shot them with a bolt of magical energy, and the gang member crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

Quickly dragging thee ganger's inert form into the alley, Khranitel turned them into a magical thrall spirit and the team moved into position to infiltrate the Mart. Khranitel sent the spirit inside the front door while the rest of the runners took cover behind windows and doors and prepared to breach. Under Khranitel's command, the spirit strode into the Mart and struck up a conversation with a few of the other gang members, offering them a share of the cred stick Pacho gave them. A chill filled the air, as he looked at two of the other hooligans and said, ‘Hey guys, check this out!” before Khranitel made them spew noxious bile at their prior allies, instantly knocking them down and begin writhing and vomiting on the linoleum.

With that, the runners began their assault. Brunhilde, using her thermographic vision, fired through the window with the curtain/tarp over it, shattering it, and killed one of the delinquents instantly, despite the blurry image. She then ripped the covering from the window in order to see the combat area more easily. At the same time, Song of the Brook dashed through the front door, darting towards another gang member and cutting him down with expert skill. Meanwhile, thanks to Brunhilde having earlier removed the single wooden board from the southern window, Pacho had an otherwise clear shot to fire through some shelving inside at another. Vaulting through said window, he ran up to the last combat ready goon and dared the hooder to shoot him.

With his confidence completely shattered, that last thug instantly surrendered and begged for his life. Another two members of the gang came running out of one of the store’s bathroom stalls, both men with their pants and underwear around their ankles, clearly having been interrupted from some shenanigans. Seeing the settled chaos, with a hasty, “Oh hell naw!” they both ran back in and locked the door behind them.

With one final look around, the squad was able to move on to finally complete their mission unimpeded. Pacho was able to determine the most likely areas where the structural supports of the building were most important, and the team’s muscle used that information to give several shocking punches to the walls, greatly weakening the building’s supports. Then, Pacho rigged some of the components of the car parked outside, (one that belonged to one of the gangers) to explode. Placing it inside the store, a huge explosion occured. As the building blew up, the runners and the two punks from the bathroom hastily made egress of the Mart. While the thugs gave a dramatic, seemingly slow motion jump away, Khranitel, Pacho, Brunhilde, and Song of the Brook slowly walked away while putting on their dark sunglasses, because everyone knows that “cool guys(sic) don’t look at explosions!”

Aftermath

With their mission finished at last, the group shot Mr. Verdant Green a quick commlink message, and shortly after, he paid them the agreed terms.
