Summary
Gilgamesh is hired last minute for some private security work. To his surprise, his eclectic cyberdoc X is hiring him for a backroom party. The eclectic cyborg is highly wanted, primarily by Aztechnology. This event is a private business party run by an EVO manager, Ivan Popov. Popov is hoping to deal with X in illicit augmentations. A pair of political enemies attempt to harass X during the party, as this is one of his few "public" appearances.
Background
X is a highly influential and connected street doc. He's also an escaped Aztechnology experiment with a million nuyen bounty on his head. Maria Werner is a staunch business woman, working for a smaller SK subsidiary and trying to grind the ranks. She hopes to get some proprietary info off of X's personal memory banks on his shell. She brings in the washed up war hero Oliver Snell as her muscle. Aiko Umehara is a local runner under the handle Viper, working for Aztech, hoping to take down X as a great prize. They all are fated to meet at Ivan Popov's rooftop business party. X's usual muscle is unexpectedly dead, so he's bringing in a ringer!
The Meet
There's little time for a formalized meeting. Gilgamesh is lazing about, when he gets a call from Auntie Amelia. X needs some last minute muscle, though he doesn't know that yet. He just knows that he has to head downtown to an EVO owned hotel and look for a driver with his name plaque, and so he does. Raphael, X's personal butler and driver, greets him and takes him up stairs to a private suite. X is dominating a trideo game lobby, but eventually introduces himself and offers to hire Gilg on the spot.
The Plan
Before the party, X takes Gilgamesh to his personal tailor via his tiny personal helicopter. In the basement of a different corp building, the eccentric tailor pulls and old and exceedingly large suit out of storage and pins it onto Gilg. The trio heads to Popov's rooftop, about ten minutes fly away.
The Run
Arriving on the rooftop, X gives one last overview of the situation and the known quantities. Ivan comes to greet the pair and Gilgamesh makes a great introduction, connecting with Popov over their shared experience as intelligent, classy trolls fighting against prejudice (and also as those privileged with troll reduction augmentations). While Ivan finishes his previous deal with a gun dealer, X and Gilgamesh make the rounds. The disparate groups are, roughly: the new blood standing on the raised decks and abusing the waitstaff, the business meeting area with Ivan, the old guard relegated to middle manager status drinking the good stuff, and the fashion forward professionals. In the last group, Maria Werner and Aiko are present, holding their own little 'courts'. The pair make their introductions positively.
When X is away for business, attended by Popov's guards, Gilgamesh goes off to investigate. The best case scenario is to prevent any trouble from occurring at all! He starts with the new blood, learning of the now somewhat disgraced veteran Oliver Snell, and his attendance at the event. He learns some details of Snell's life via a simple Matrix Search, and sets off to find him. They make their acquaintance and get along fine until an argument in the other room interrupts them.
Aiko and Maria are going at it with all but their fists, claiming betrayal and hatred on both sides. Gilgamesh intervenes, breaking through the tension with adept social grace (pretending to be a little stupid). He gets Aiko -- actually the runner Viper -- alone to negotiate. She tells him that Maria is here to steal X's data, which is true, and that Gilgamesh should steal Maria's commlink so they can crack it for evidence, which is setting him up for betrayal. With an excellent Judge Intentions and following Intimidation, Gilgamesh gets her to crack and drop the facade. She's there to kill X, even if she won't say it. She mentions on her way out that her Aztechnology handlers won't be happy, and she might need to lay low for a week or two, Gilgamesh offers her some company, which she isn't opposed to.
Inside, the direct dealings between Popov and X are concluding. Gilgamesh reunites with his charge and keeps a close watch on him, just in case there's a second vector of attack. It's a good thing, too, as during the last moments of the run, Snell comes around back of X while he's preoccupied. He's going for the chip, but Gilgamesh sees him and intercepts. He considers it for a long moment, but Gilgamesh is intimidating enough that he decides it's not worth it, and throws in the towel.
Aftermath
X gets off scott free! Gilgamesh maintains a friendly relationship with all involved, miraculously.
