Background
Alyaksandr had a quiet childhood growing up in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. His father was a schoolteacher and his mother a doctor, both with an unending pile of work that left Alyaksandr and his older sister, Ellina, mostly unattended. Ellina thrived with this freedom, attending (or hosting) party after party, event after event. Alyaksandr kept to himself, often being the target of snide remarks and jokes for his general clumsiness, strange shifting hair and glowing skin. But that was it, a typical childhood with the once-a-week family dinners his parents were always adamant on having despite their extremely busy schedule.
Alyaksandr suddenly woke one night to a loud bang, the crashing of shattering glass, and the loud echoing blasts of gunfire. His father burst into the room, a smoking Ares Predator in his hand, and shouted "Run Alyaksandr!" Alyaksandr immediately threw open his window, rushed down the fire escape, and ran off into the night. He didn't get far before two jolts of electricity shot across his spine and sent him into the cold embrace of unconsciousness.
Turns out his parents weren't the simple schoolteacher and doctor he was led to believe. The late nights weren't just medical emergencies and tutoring sessions. His parents were part of an organization working behind the scenes with the goal of liberating Belarus from Russian control. Atleast, that is what Alyaksandr could glean from the interrogation sessions that served as a welcoming to a Russian blacksite. Due to his young age or the fact that he truly didn't know anything useful, the brutal interrogations lasted only a few weeks before he was tossed into a cell and forgotten. It was in that cold cell that Alyaksandr met Bear. Her embrace shielded him from the bloodied concrete floors and her warmth and patience nurtured his wounded spirit. Bear taught him how to separate his mind and spirit from his body, about the worlds beyond, and about the magic Alyaksandr had within him.
Years passed while Alyaksandr honed his body, mind, and spirit under the tutelage of Bear. The wards and spirits around the compound prevented him from exploring beyond, including to the metaplanes which he found such a yearning for, but these were barely an inconvenience for Bear. This day, however,of just over five years in the compound felt different. Explosions, screams, alarms, something had happened. A strike team from the Awakened Yakut attacked the facility looking to free some of their imprisoned compatriots. The door to Alyaksandr's cell fell. Behind it was a massive Tiger who growled "Follow, Hurry." Alyaksandr quickly followed, stumbled, and fell. Years in that small cell had only worsened his childhood clumsiness. "Hurry" the tiger once again growled, turning around to stare at Alyaksandr. "We don't have time" it sighed, grabbing Alyaksandr by the shirt and running with him out of the compound.
Alyaksandr found a new home in the Awakened Yakut and spent many years there. He learned more about magic from the free spirits, went on spiritual journeys across the Awakened Yakut, and joined their forces on several raids against Russia. It was when he picked up rumors about his sister that he decided to leave that life behind and followed her trail to Seattle, hoping to once again reunite with her.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
Mentor Spirit (Bear): Bear came to Chersky at his lowest point - in a bare concrete cell after losing everything he had ever known. Her warm motherly embrace protected him and now urges him to protect others.
Negative
Disheveled: Spending much of his adult life around Shapeshifters and Free Spirits, Chersky never learned how to dress for success.
Driven (Lost Sister): Chersky's older sister was away on a trip when their home got attacked. She's since disappeared, but almost 25 years later Chersky picked up traces of her in Seattle.
Favored (Biased, Shapeshifters): A team of shapeshifters saved Chersky from a Russian blacksite. He's spent many years with their kind after the rescue.
Flashbacks I (Imprisonment): Chersky spent his teenage years in a Russian black site. He's haunted by the prospect of going back.
No Man Left Behind: Abandoning his parents didn't work, working with a team in the Awakened Yakut did. Leaving people behind is never worth the consequence.
