Summary

Payday to ruin someone's day. Yaaaaay......

Background

Mockingjay is a vampire poser independent streamer Vtuber in California Free State that is somewhat outspoken as a liberal equal rights supporter. This has ruffled some corporations' feathers, particularly Horizon since they specialize in media.

The Meet

The meet happens in Redding, CFS, a city somewhat rattled by the border conflicts between CFS and Tir Tairngire. An old man with a widow's peak, blue business suit and a briefcase watches three of the team members enter since Chófer has to drive 12 hours around Tir Tairngire to bring illegal materiel over via smuggling routes. Delphi is initially entering the job, but upon seeing the astral hazing and uncomfortable aura that the government agent presents, she gets immediate suspicions.

The employer explains that Mockingjay, the streamer, has problematic influences on the mediasphere for the time being and that she should be removed from the profession for now until she's better suited to affect the public. As a result, she should be kept alive at all costs, but her equipment should be trashed since as an independent streamer she won't have the corporate backing to just buy a new set of electronics. Delphi walks out and suggests the rest of the team doesn't take the job either, but they agree to a good payday and identity-protecting materiel promised by the government spook -- they won't take much pleasure in ruining the girl's career, however.

The Plan

Delphi does some digging into the employer and confirms he was a former shadowrunner that did a brief stint in Seattle before vanishing completely. The Nexus datahaven has a technomancer filing a report of sighting him in a deep resonance realm with a group of technomancers as well as a fight in the Emerald Grid where demiGODs engaged vine-infested hosts and xenosapients emerging from them. While he didn't appear to work in a team with GOD, he was certainly aiding their cause. This is enough for her to get paranoid and try to look around if she's being trailed; sure enough, a chameleon coated rotodrone tracks her every movement and she leaves to go to Seattle as soon as she loses it from her trail.

Trash Panda and Blue Jay enter Horizon's grid and find the JusTV streaming service host to try and hack Mockingjay's stream and her persona, hopefully to trace her and see where she lives. While it's concerning for a while, her equipment isn't incredibly hardened against professional hackers and they get the trace successfully, following the data trail into an industrial area with particularly horrible pollution in the atmosphere.

The Run

Parking nearby, sensor scans and Matrix checks confirm that the place has a Faraday Cage and a satellite link connecting the interior of the house to the outside. Further checks after Trash Panda gets access to the master device confirm a motion sensor, carbon dioxide detector and atmosphere scanner for any leaks to the outside air. After some careful work to defeat the god of all Matrix runs, Rating 4 devices, the security devices are disabled and a sniper rifle bullet to the front door lock breaks the plywood door wide open. As the toxic fumes from outside begin to seep in, the runners work fast and inject Narcojet in Mockingjay's neck, sealing her unconscious body inside her own garage as well as leaving some medical supplies and a gas mask with her while they take her expensive streaming equipment and trash what they can't carry along with them. Cleaning the area with C-Squared, the team makes their exit since local drone security probably heard the high caliber gunshot.

Aftermath

Blue Jay gets a message on the RCC AR display despite not having known the commcode and the Johnson applauds their swift work as well as providing a form, a number of board certified cyberclinics as well as a budget for each of them to acquire select augmentations with -- it appears to be listed as "charity for the SINless" which reads out as a tax write-off from a corpo executive. Perturbed that the J had access to Blue Jay's RCC, the team extracts from CFS and does with the rewards what they wish.
