Overview
Aurek Yamauchi was not meant to step into the Shadows. He was adopted at age 3 from unknown Russian parents by a Yakuza clan in Seattle; his mother's BTL addiction, his father's willingness to enable it, and the stories and trouble his career brought around fostered an environment that gave Aurek a cold and fearless nature. He rarely discusses his past in detail; what is known is that his career began in his adolescence, when his parents had a bounty on their heads, and a Shadowrunner came to collect it. Aurek ran, and eventually found a Sensei- a redemption-seeking Runner named Karasu, known for his marksmanship, wing suit, and skill with a monofilament whip- to help him avenge his parents. By the time Aurek took his first run under the alias Sokol, both of his arms and eyes were replaced with chrome; additionally, Karasu was dead, the Runner's final written words stating that he had found the redemption he sought. Having been trained in the ways Karasu fought, Aurek carried on the avian-inspired Runner's legacy with his own signature wing suit and whip. It was not too long into his Shadowrunning career that he was severely injured on a high-stakes job, and while his score couldn't be salvaged, a disgruntled former Docwagon surgeon named ʔáylx found him bleeding out, brought him back to his residence, and nursed him back to health; the two ran together for several years until eventually, for reasons unknown, both of them retired, with ʔáylx disappearing from the scene entirely (until the year 2084, that is) and Sokol himself taking up the life of a fixer.
Everything about Sokol screams veteran Runner; he stands at six-foot-seven with brown hair that naturally flows to his waist when not tied up properly, and he sports well-maintained custom cyberarms and eyes. Despite his enhanced sight, Sokol is not the type of fixer to have eyes and ears everywhere, but he still lives up to his moniker. Whether it be illicit cyberware, weapons, munitions, or jobs, there is little that he cannot grasp with the talons of his influence- all for a price, of course. Don't let his age fool you; his retirement didn't mean the end of his training, and very few who have pissed him off thoroughly enough survive the business end of his whip.
Aspects Description
Aspect | Description |
---|---|
Cyberware Connoisseur | This Elf is practically a hunk of walking contraband; he knows there's more where it came from, and exactly where to get it. +2 dice on tests that involve acquiring Cyberware. |
Respected in the Shadows | While neither Sokol nor Karasu were particularly famous, some people have still heard stories of their style and exploits. +2 dice on tests that involve connecting Runners with underworld clients. |
Family Connections | Sokol was never a "made man" in the Yakuza, but he was still raised by a Kyodai, and proved that he was worthy of the Yakuza's respect throughout his career. +2 dice on tests that involve interacting with the Yakuza. |
Like Sensei, Like Student | With clients he can put at least some trust in, Sokol is willing to take a page out of Karasu's book; after all, someone's got to teach the new generation of Streetsams and Razorgirls how to do their jobs. He will allow PCs who have a Loyalty rating of 4 or above with him to use his home gym as a place to train, socialize, or even lay low for a bit if necessary. |
Back in the Game... Again. | Despite being retired as a Runner, Sokol hasn't let his skills go, and is willing to throw himself into the fray for clients that he cares about (and/or sees as too profitable to lose), should they need it. If a PC has a Loyalty rating of 5 or higher with Sokol and they call for a rescue operation, Sokol will lead the charge himself. This grants +2 dice on Active checks used to protect his client. |
